Clean complexion: Four new products to try from Tula

You guys know I completely adore Tula beauty products.

I get a lot of skincare to try out, but there are a few brands that when their new items come in, I can’t wait to rip open the boxes and try them out. Tula is one of those brands.

Unfortunately, Tula still doesn’t ship to Canada, and with the whole pandemic going on and the lack of travel to the US right now, it makes it even harder for us Canadians to get our little paws on it.  Regardless though, I know it’s not just Canadians who read this blog and for those who do, the items I’m going to share will be some that I think you should add to your shopping lists when we can finally cross the border again.

Over the last few months, the probiotic beauty brand has released some new and amazing products and I’m going to say it right now, I love everything.  So, if you are looking for some incredible new skincare to try out, or are just curious about Tula, then keep reading!

Tula Shawn Johnson East So Pumpkin Facial Scrub Exfoliant

Shawn Johnson East So Pumpkin Facial Scrub Exfoliant

I use the Tula So Polished Exfoliating Sugar Scrub at least once a week, so when they came out with a limited-edition pumpkin spice version, my basic self couldn’t wait to get her manicured hands on it!

In collaboration with Olympian Shawn Johnson East, the So Pumpkin Facial Scrub Exfoliant ($34 USD) works the same way of their OG scrub, but with a pumpkin spice twist.

Apply this before or after your cleanser (I like doing it before) and gently massage in a circular motion, then rinse.  The scrub contains gentle, natural sugar to melt away excess oil, buildup, and debris, without leaving your skin feeling irritated or dry.  It contains probiotics and pumpkin to soften skin, as well as fruit enzymes to unclog pores.

I really love this scrub since it has sugar in it, meaning that it melts on your skin when you add water. You won’t be left with pieces of scrub left over, which is common with other exfoliators out there that don’t melt down.  The original one has a set pineapple scent to it, whereas this one is full-blown pumpkin spice, which if you aren’t a fan of that then you probably won’t like this.  If you are a fan though, prepare to have your mind blown.

If you live in the States and this gives you an inclining of interest, then I would grab it quick since it’s limited edition and who knows if they will ever bring it back.

Tula Golden Hour Eye Balm

Glow Hour – Courtney Shields Eye Balm

In collaboration with Instagrammer Courtney Shields, Tula has recently introduced a new beauty to their Glow & Get It Eye Balm line up.

I love the original formula, as well as the Rose Glow version (which I use every morning), so I naturally got really excited when I saw they came out with a third version.

The Glow Hour Eye Balm ($32 USD) is designed to neutralize dark circles.  This balm is smaller in circumference than their other two as it’s designed to fit into the small corners of the inner eye.  It contains ingredients such as grapefruit and algae to brighten, as well as lingonberry to protect against pollution and blue light (love this!!). It also has aloe water and watermelon to hydrate and reduce the look of wrinkles. In addition to all that, it also cools, hydrates, and illuminates the eye area. Just swipe it on for a golden peachy glow and an instant pick me up.

I think this is also a genius product and although it doesn’t replace their other two balms, I would use this one in addition to the Rose Glow one and even keep it on you for on-to-go touchups or when you need a little pick me up.

Tula Signature Glow Refreshing & Hydrating Acid Face Mist and So Smooth Resurfacing & Brightening Fruit Enzyme Mask

Tula Signature Glow Refreshing & Hydrating Acid Face Mist

I love a good face mist, so it’s about time that Tula released one in their collection.

The Tula Signature Glow Refreshing & Hydrating Acid Face Mist ($34 USD) is designed to instantly brighten the appearance of dull skin, as well as hydrate and protect it from blue light and pollution.

Spray this onto your skin before or after makeup or just whenever you need a pick me up to give your skin a punch of hyaluronic acid.  It also contains probiotics, strawberry, and kiwi fruit water to balance skin and give you a beautiful glow. It also has a really nice scent to it which is an instant pick me up.

I love to spray this on my skin before bed since it’s such a nice treat, however, I have tried it over makeup and my makeup did not budge for hours on end and I was left with a beautiful eye-catching glow.  You can also apply this to your highlighter brush before dipping it into product for an out-of-this-world glow.

So Smooth Resurfacing & Brightening Fruit Enzyme Mask

Lastly, we have a new mask from Tula, and based on the other masks I have tried from them, I knew I would love this one too.

The So Smooth Resurfacing & Brightening Fruit Enzyme Mask ($36 USD) is a gel mask that is designed to give you smoother and brighter-looking skin.  Apply this clear mask to your skin for 10 minutes then rinse off to reveal soft and balanced skin.

This mask contains pineapple, pumpkin, and pomegranate enzymes with AHA, BHA, and PHA gentle acids to exfoliate and polish the skin.  It’s a nice treat to incorporate into your routine once or twice a week, and best part is that it isn’t messy and you only need to apply it for 10 minutes for it to work efficiently.

I completely adore all of these Tula products and cannot recommend them enough.  Truthfully, Tula is one of those lines that just consistently work every time I try something new from them.  If you are interested in picking some goodies up, then use code SHAYNA for 15% off your order!

An artist’s touch: Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist lipsticks

Life imitates art with Make Up For Ever’s newest lipsticks.

I’ve always really enjoyed Make Up For Ever’s lipsticks, especially their matte liquid lipsticks, so whenever they come out with a new formula, I’m always dying to get my lips on them.

New from the brand is the Rouge Artist Lipstick (C$31), a pigmented, satin-finish lipstick that will give you all-day colour and hydration.

Available in a staggering 60 shades, this lipstick comes housed in a beautiful lipbrush-inspired casing that is long and elegant and definitely unlike anything else in your collection.  The colour is a matte satin and will hydrate lips as you wear it as it contains amino acids for moisture, as well as camellia oil to soften and comfort lips.

Make Up For Ever sent me two of the 60 shades to try out, Power Greige, a dark taupe colour, and Spirited Pink, a baby pink.  I really liked how these applied and the finish they leave on the lips.  I did find them to be incredibly moisturizing and the colour was long lasting.

I did like these lipsticks but I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t find them to be anything too different from their other Artist Rouge lipsticks, aside from the package. The packaging is definitely unique and gives it a nice flair, however, I do think it is a bit unnecessary and the tube is quite long.  It’s very bougie and if you are into that sort of thing then I think you’ll really love these.

Aside from that, I do really like the shade range and the wide assortment of colours they chose to go with. With 60 shades, you’ll definitely find your perfect colour… and then some!

Blue moon: Avon x VDL Pantone Colour of the Year collection

I used to be huge into the whole Pantone Color of the Year thing.

In case you aren’t familiar with the Pantone Color of the Year, it’s a colour that influences everything from fashion to decor to graphic design, and more. Every year, Pantone, the colour authority, announces a new colour and for 2020 it’s PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue.

This shade embodies trust and confidence and is known to be calming while enhancing focus.

Already, just based on what I’ve been receiving this year in terms of beauty, there has been TONS of blue, so I can totally see how this shade has already influenced the beauty community.

There have been a few lines that celebrate the release of the colour every year (Sephora Collection used to do one every year) and this year it’s VDL’s turn. The Korean beauty brand released a collection based on the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year earlier this year (apparently this is the sixth Color of the Year collection with VDL). The collection is made up of primers, liners, eyeshadows, and more.

Avon sent me a few items from the collection to try out (as part of their collab with the Nature Collection brands), including the eyeshadow palette, an eyeliner, and one of the primers.

Avon x VDL Pantone collection eyeshadow palette

First up, the Pantone ’20 Expert Colour Eye Book 6.4 No.2 (C$68) is a cool-toned eyeshadow palette (they also offer it in a warm tone) with eight shadows and two face shades.   These shadows comes in both shimmer and matte formulas and are a nice blend of shades to be able to create a variety of different looks.  There is of course the star shadow in the Classic Blue which features glitter in it, but there are a variety of neutrals as well, making this palette very useable. The shadows also have a silicone-based formula and finishing powder to absorb sebum and hold makeup in place.

The palette comes housed in a beautiful casing which features the Classic Blue shade on the lid and a large mirror inside.

Avon x VDL Pantone collection primer

VDL also came out with a special-edition of their Lumilayer Primer (C$46) which helps to brighten skin and help your makeup last longer. Apply this on your skin prior to your foundation to help it absorb and maximize the wear. The formula is a light texture and contains fine pearl particles to give you a toning effect.

This primer is part of their regular line but features a special-edition cap in the Pantone Classic Blue shade. It also comes housed in a velvet blue box which makes it super luxe.

Lastly, the easiest way to sport Classic Blue is definitely an eyeliner.  Thankfully, they have released the perfect eyeliner to help you achieve this.

The Pantone 20′ Multi Color Auto Pencil Liner (C$38) is available in five shades (with two blues) and is an automatic pencil eyeliner that can be used for subtle or bold looks. One end is the liner and the other features a smudger if you want to blend it out.   This liner offers long-lasting wear and is water resistant.  Just apply it and go about your day. There’s no smudging or bleeding once it’s set.

There are a variety of other products in this collection as well, and considering how I don’t typically reach for blues often, I actually really liked how these products applied. I didn’t see many of the products online on the Avon site any more but they are available on the Nature Collection one, so if you are interested in grabbing a few items, I would get on it.  This collection actually launched back in the summer so it’s been out for a while now. Take a look online to see what they still have in stock though, as the quality is amazing and the special-edition packaging is super cute as well.
