Okay, so just like a lot of people, I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup lately. Unless I’m going out with friends or just want to dress up on a Saturday to go to the grocery store, I’m not wearing a ton of products.
But with that being said, when I have put on makeup, it’s usually not a lot of it, which when I got in some new Pixi Beauty products that are some multi-purpose items, they were right up my alley.
The Pixi Beauty Summer Glow palette (C$28) is the ultimate multi-purpose palette that features a wide range of shades that are suitable for both the eyes and cheeks. These powders are a natural mineral formula in both matte and glowing finishes. The powders also contain Vitamin E to nourish and protect, mica to give off a lustre finish, and skin-conditioning emollients to soothe and hydrate.
When I first got this palette I thought it was all eyeshadows, but then when I saw that it was multi-use I thought it was so smart since it’s the perfect palette for those who like to keep it simple. Use the brown shades to contour and then the pink ones for blush, and that pretty champagne as a highlight. All the colours can also be used as eyeshadows as well.
Apply the eyeshadow over top of their Endless Shade Sticks (C$20). These cream shadows, available in seven shades, are infused with green tea, aloe, and chamomile to hydrate, soothe and calm.
Pixi sent me two shades of these and these are great to wear either alone or as a base for your powdered eyeshadow. Just swipe it on and you’re good to go!
Finish up the eye area with the Pixi Beauty Large Lash Mascara (C$22), which is a volumizing and lengthening mascara that has a buildable formula to really pump up lashes. Swipe it on for volume and stand-out lashes.
This mascara features an oversized brush to separate, lengthen, and plump up lashes. It also has a water-resistant formula, as well as being smudge proof.
Truthfully, I have used better mascaras before and I do find the wand to be nothing special. As you’ll see in swatches photo below, it does the trick but I wouldn’t say it’s anything outstanding.
Lastly, for the lips, the Lip Lift Max (C$20) is the perfect gloss to complete any easy makeup look. Available in five shades, this gloss plumps up the lips and leaves them with a cooling sensation and glossy finish. The formula contains peptides to hydrate, firm, and plump, as well as aloe to heal, jojoba to moisturize, and chamomile to soothe. It also has a fresh mint flavour, which is very pleasant and a real treat.
Pixi sent me the shade Sweet Nectar, which is a beauty coral shade that looks great either on its own or over top of another lip product.
I really enjoyed these products (and the custom bag they sent them in, they always send the best PR packages). Like I said, I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup lately so these products do just the trick.

French skincare. Two words that seem to go together in perfect harmony.
I’ve always been a fan of L’Occitane since it’s one of those skincare lines that seem to do just about everything right. I’ve tried numerous products from them through the years and really loved how they just seem to get it perfect every time.
One of their iconic lines just got a reboot and a new product added, so I was so excited to get them to try out. The Immortelle Divine line was relaunched earlier this month and included one new item in the collection as well. This line has more than 20 years of research on Immortelle, which is a wildflower that has been known for its multiple anti-aging benefits. This relaunch is focused on a higher concentration of the Immortelle Super Extract, which is a naturally derived retinol alternative that tackles signs of aging.
So, what’s in the collection? So glad you asked!
First up is the Immortelle Divine Cream (C$120), which is a cream that can be used day or night and contains natural-origin ingredients, as well as the Immortelle Super Extract. This cream is targeted to fight aging and will leave skin feeling nourished and smooth. Over time you will notice a reduction in wrinkles which will leave skin smooth and luminous.
Pair the cream with their Immortelle Divine Serum (C$130), which contains the same ingredients and is a concentrated serum with fast-penetrating emulsion for younger-looking skin.
The new and improved formula will help reduce wrinkles, restore firmness, evenness, volume, and vibrancy. This works together with the moisturizer to bring out the best benefits of both products, and after regular use, your skin will look smoother, more lifted, and younger.
Finally, their newest product, the Immortelle Precious Overnight Mask (C$85) rounds the collection out since it’s aimed at nighttime use.
This mask helps to resist the effects of external aggressors, including blue light, which if you’re like me, is very important since I spend most of my day in front of one screen or another. This nighttime product helps to quench skin with moisture and combat dullness, as well as fight visible signs of aging.
I’ve used a few other products from their Immortelle line and really enjoy the collection overall. I would recommend looking into these products if you are on the hunt for a new anti-aging regimen and don’t know where to start. Once you hit your late 20s it’s not a bad idea to look into incorporating retinol into your routine and since these contain a naturally derived version of it, they are a great alternative to invest into.

One thing we can’t change? The aging process.
As we age, our skin cells start to break down and fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. As much as we Botox and use great skincare products, you ain’t going to look like you’re 20 when you’re really 60 (unless you’re Cher of course).
L’Oreal Paris has recently released a makeup collection that is geared towards mature skin and each product has been formulated with ingredients that are specifically for women 55+.
Now I’m not in that age demographic but it was quite fun giving it a try, and truthfully, I was quite surprised by how much I really liked this collection. L’Oreal has merged skincare ingredients with makeup formulas to create a collection that will help with the structure, texture, and colour of mature skin and facial hair like eyebrows and eyelashes.
First up is the star product in my eyes, the Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation (on sale for C$16.14). This foundation is lightweight and breathable, as opposed to heavy and cakey and contains 80 per cent hydrating cream, vitamin C for brightening, and micro-fine pigments to let skin breath, hydrate, and be radiant all day long.
Available in 21 shades, this foundation gives mature skin 24 hours of radiant hydration without looking cakey or settling into fine lines. It also feels light on the skin and is breathable.
L’Oreal sent me two shades to try out and I was surprised by how much I really liked this. It glides on the skin and gave me a medium coverage but was still lightweight enough that my skin could breathe. I did find I had to use a powder to set it since it was a little too glowy for my liking, but L’Oreal also offers a powder foundation in the line as well (in eight shades), so if you want extra coverage or something to set the cream with, they would make a good duo.
I paired the foundation with the new Radiant Concealer (on sale for C$13.59), which is available in 12 shades. This foundation has antioxidants and caffeine to wake up the eye area and hides imperfections without settling into fine lines, which is a major plus for a concealer (especially with mature skin). I also found it hydrating and loved the doefoot applicator, making it easy to apply on the areas that needed it.
Lastly, for the skin, use their new Radiant Satin Blush (on sale for C$13.59), which is available in four shades and gives skin a perfect flush. This blush is also not cakey on the skin and won’t dry it out either.
Now, I don’t find blushes to be cakey or drying in general, so I wouldn’t say to bend over backwards over this product but I did like the way it applied and liked that it was a buildable coverage (I hate when I apply a blush and it goes on too pigmented).
L’Oreal Paris is known for their mascaras, so naturally they had to come out with one for this collection as well. The Age Perfect Densifying Mascara (C$13.59) contains lash-boosting ceramides and jojoba oil to nourish lashes, making them stronger.
Now there isn’t anything too special about the wand itself but I did find it did a great job of making my lashes look luxe. The formula also contains pro-keratin to strengthen, as well as densifying siloxane and ultra black pigments for volume.
Pair the mascara with their Smooth and Glide Eyeliner (C$13.59), which glides on the lids thanks to its creamy formula. I really liked this liner and actually thought it performed better than a lot of more higher-end liners I’ve tried. With that being said, because it’s so creamy, I did find it had the tendency to smudge a bit, so I would recommend setting it with some black eyeshadow if you are planning on sweating, crying, swimming, etc.
Finally, finish up the eye area with the Brow Defining Pencil (C$13.49), which is available in three shades and will give you the most noticeable eyes. This pencil fills and defines eyebrows and contains natural waxes to set, as well as soft powder pigments to give the illusion of a perfect brow.
Finally, it wouldn’t be a L’Oreal Paris collection without some lipsticks!
The Age Perfect Flattering Lipstick (C$13.99) is a creamy lipstick that features a core that is enriched with 46 per cent caring ingredients which help to lock in moisture.
There are 12 shades to choose from, all of which were specifically chosen for mature skin in mind. This lipstick stays in place and doesn’t feather out and will help to illuminate lips and warm the complexion. They also have four lip liners to choose from in complementary hues.
I really liked this collection and was quite surprise by how much I enjoyed it. I don’t have 55+ skin but I do think it did a great job of covering up what I needed covered and illuminating the areas that I want to highlight most.
It’s honestly hard to say what my favourite products were. The foundation and concealer were both winners and considering how I don’t usually reach for reds or darker pinks, I really loved the way these lipsticks applied (all the colours came out a little lighter on me than they looked in the tube).
So would I recommend it even if you don’t have mature skin? Yes! The formula includes some great ingredients that will help every skin type, no matter the age, so I wouldn’t let the title of “Age Perfect” scare you. Of course, L’Oreal has so many different lines that are wonderful, but if you are looking for something with some major skin benefits in mind, then I would look into this collection. Mature skin or not.
