When it comes to the kinds of serums I use daily, you better believe one of my favourites is a hyaluronic acid serum.
Hyaluronic acid is found in lots of skincare products, but it’s great to use a serum since it’s a more potent formula and will help to regulate moisture levels in the skin.
So what is hyaluronic acid exactly? It’s actually a powerful humectant that is found in skin that helps to regulate its moisture levels. As you get older though your hyaluronic acid production slows down, which causes the moisture in your skin to drop and signs of aging to appear. This starts to happen once you turn 20 and as time goes on, you may notice loss of firmness, more dull skin, and uneven texture.
So what can you do to turn back the clock on your aging skin? Use skincare products that have hyaluronic acid in them, and more specifically, use a serum that is formulated specifically with hyaluronic acid to give your skin a boost in the anti-aging department.
I have tried a number of these serums but recently one of my favourite skincare brands, Skinceuticals, sent over their medical-grade hyaluronic acid serums to try out. There are four in total and are designed for all types of skin.
Starting first with their Hydrating B5 Gel (C$94), this serum is great for all types of skin and helps with dull skin, blemish-prone skin, and age-related moisture loss.
Apply this serum morning and evening for hydrated and nutrient-rich skin which also looks smoother and softer. It’s great for delivering hydration without clogging pores, as well helping to boost the skin’s natural repair process. Apply it before your moisturizer to enhance the benefits of your creams.
This serum is safe for use with microneedling treatments and is also recommended for use with vitamin C skincare products. It’s also great to apply on a flight as it helps to maintain skin moisture during air travel. Skinceuticals also recommends applying it using the sandwich method for the optimal amount of hydration. Apply four drops to the face, then your moisturizer, then another layer of the serum.
If you are looking for something for firming, then take a look at their H.A. Intensifier (C$132). This serum is designed to be used after a Vitamin C serum and is ideal for all types of skin.
The H.A. Intensifier is a multi-beneficial corrective serum that is proven to amplify skin’s hyaluronic acid levels. It’s ideal for anti-aging and sun damage and can help reduce the look of crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. It’s great to use if you already get Botox and fillers as it complements these procedures.
The formula contains a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, as well as proxylane, and botanical extracts of licorice root and purple rice to support skin’s hyaluronic acid levels. With regular use it will help with hydration, as well as improve the appearance of firmness, smoothness, and plumpness.
In the morning apply it after your Vitamin C and at night apply it after your retinol.
If you are looking for smoother and softer skin, then take a look at their Retexturing Activator (C$96). This serum is a replenishing and resurfacing serum that reinforces the skin’s barrier for healthier and more radiant skin.
This serum is great for exfoliation while still optimizing the skin’s amino acid supply to reinforce the external barrier. It contains an oil-free delivery system that is suitable for all skin types, but is particularly great for sensitive skin. This serum is also oil-free and has the resurfacing power of a daily 20 per cent glycolic acid treatment.
With regular use, skin will look more smooth and supple, as well as more radiant and hydrated.
Finally, for acne-prone or blemish-prone skin, apply the Phyto Corrective Gel (C$82). This lightweight, oil-free serum includes hyaluronic acid with a blend of cucumber, thyme, olive leaf, and other calming botanical ingredients, which makes it great for acne or sensitive skin (all skin types can use it as well).
This serum calms and soothes skin while evening out skin tone and helping to bring out a more even-toned complexion. It’s also great with reducing the look of redness after professional treatments and procedures. It’s very calming and hydrating once applied and is also great to use underneath makeup if you suffer from redness.
Okay, so I know that was a lot of information thrown at you in terms of hyaluronic acid serums, but when it comes to skincare and aging, you must include some sort of hyaluronic acid product in your routine. Since Skinceuticals is a medical grade skincare brand, these are all great options which will deliver amazing results.

One of Bite Beauty’s bestselling products is now back… kind of.
The Canadian clean beauty brand launched their line initially in the early 2010s with a line of matte lipsticks called Amuse Bouche, something they are still well known for thanks to their innovative and interactive Lip Labs. In 2019, they discontinued their line of Amuse Bouche lipsticks much to everyone’s surprise and this month they have released a new formulation, called the Power Move Soft Matte Lipstick (C$37).
So what’s different? Well for one, the formula is now vegan (the original had carmine, beeswax, or lanolin). Bite’s latest releases have featured a vegan formula and it seems to be what the brand is gravitating towards overall. This new formula is a hydrating matte one that contains cocoa butter to nourish lips and tapioca pearls mixed with fatty acids for a modern soft matte finish.
Available in 20 shades, some of which are popular shades from the original Amuse Bouche colours, these lipsticks also come housed in the brand’s iconic matte charcoal packaging with a slanted lid. The shade range is very vast, from nudes to pinks to reds to berries.
Bite Beauty sent me three shades to try out, Sugar Buns (pink nude), Chai (mauve brown), and Hot Tomato (bright cool-toned red). These definitely apply matte on the lips, a finish that is traditionally more drying, but these are very comfortable and hydrating to wear. They have a creamy texture that glides on the lips and will stay put for hours. They are also feather- and fade-resistant and have a clean, vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free formula.
I’ve always been a fan of Bite Beauty lipsticks and have even done their Lip Lab (I wear my custom shade all the time). I find their shade range to be really flattering and overall the formula of their products are really comfortable and hydrating to wear. I actually didn’t even realize that they discontinued their original Amuse Bouche lipsticks, but it makes sense since they are going a more vegan direction.
If you are on the hunt for a good vegan lipstick then I would recommend looking into grabbing a shade or two of these. I’m such a matte girl, so I love the formula and finish and think that these could easily be some of your new favourite lipsticks.

About a month ago I chatted about RoC Skincare’s Vitamin C line, which is a great line to incorporate into your skin during your morning skincare routine. It’s very important to add in Vitamin C products since it helps to produce collagen, reduces wrinkles, and more. Another product to add in that is just as important is retinol.
So unless you have acne or skin conditions, I wouldn’t recommend a pharmacy-grade retinol, since those are very potent and strong. If you are like me where you’re in your 30s and just want to use it for more preventative measures, then a drugstore retinol product does the trick. If you like RoC products, then you’ll be happy to know that they have a retinol line.
There are a few different products in RoC’s Retinol Correxion line, including a few serums. If you are looking for a smaller pores, less visible fine lines and wrinkles, and more firm skin, then give their Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Daily Serum (C$43.99) a shot.
This serum has a time-released pure RoC Retinol, which the brand says is America’s number-one most awarded retinol. Their pure RoC Retinol formula accelerates the removal of old, dull skin cells on the surface, leaving you with fresh new ones. It stays active for up to 12 hours and works to visibly reduce lines and wrinkles and give you a more youthful appearance.
The formula also contains ashwagandha and squalane which deliver hydration to the skin instantly. Unlike other retinol serums out there, this one is gentle enough for daily use, which is a major selling feature.
Now if you are looking for a more potent retinol, then take a look at the Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules (C$43.99). These serum capsules are designed to rival prescription skincare without any irritation. Apply a capsule at night and wake up to visibly reduced lines and wrinkles. Over time with regular use, skin will look more firm.
The formula contains a high concentration of their pure RoC Retinol and antioxidants. The serum comes in individual capsules to ensure optimal retinol freshness and potency.
This product is a great alternative to prescription retinol since it is a little stronger than other drugstore versions out there so you may experience similar effects to the over-the-counter kind. I would start using these a couple times a night and then build it up to use every night. There are 30 capsules in the bottle so it’s enough to last you a month.
Finally, for me, the first sign of aging I saw in my skin was around the eye area. Since the eye area typically has thinner skin, it’s usually the first place you’ll notice lines and wrinkles. That’s where the Retinol Correxion Eye Cream (C$39.99) comes in.
This eye cream is aimed to address the three signs of aging around the eye region, that includes puffiness, dark circles, and wrinkles. Apply this eye treatment morning and night to visibly enhance the eye area.
With regular use, this eye cream brightens and depuffs the eyes. It also helps to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet.
I highly recommend this product since it’s super important to have a good eye cream in your skincare routine. Protecting the skin around the eyes is so important since it’s usually one of the first places you will notice signs of aging. With the power of retinol in this cream, it will help to rejuvenate and enhance the eye area.
There are so many retinol products out there in the drugstore nowadays but I really do love these RoC ones since they are a great price for a good product.
