Hydrate & glow: Four hyaluronic acid serums to try from Skinceuticals

When it comes to the kinds of serums I use daily, you better believe one of my favourites is a hyaluronic acid serum.

Hyaluronic acid is found in lots of skincare products, but it’s great to use a serum since it’s a more potent formula and will help to regulate moisture levels in the skin.

So what is hyaluronic acid exactly?  It’s actually a powerful humectant that is found in skin that helps to regulate its moisture levels.  As you get older though your hyaluronic acid production slows down, which causes the moisture in your skin to drop and signs of aging to appear. This starts to happen once you turn 20 and as time goes on, you may notice loss of firmness, more dull skin, and uneven texture.

So what can you do to turn back the clock on your aging skin?  Use skincare products that have hyaluronic acid in them, and more specifically, use a serum that is formulated specifically with hyaluronic acid to give your skin a boost in the anti-aging department.

Skinceuticals Hyaluronic Acid serums

I have tried a number of these serums but recently one of my favourite skincare brands, Skinceuticals, sent over their medical-grade hyaluronic acid serums to try out.  There are four in total and are designed for all types of skin.

Starting first with their Hydrating B5 Gel (C$94), this serum is great for all types of skin and helps with dull skin, blemish-prone skin, and age-related moisture loss.

Apply this serum morning and evening for hydrated and nutrient-rich skin which also looks smoother and softer.  It’s great for delivering hydration without clogging pores, as well helping to boost the skin’s natural repair process. Apply it before your moisturizer to enhance the benefits of your creams.

This serum is safe for use with microneedling treatments and is also recommended for use with vitamin C skincare products. It’s also great to apply on a flight as it helps to maintain skin moisture during air travel. Skinceuticals also recommends applying it using the sandwich method for the optimal amount of hydration. Apply four drops to the face, then your moisturizer, then another layer of the serum.

Skinceuticals HA Intensifier and Hydrating B5 Gel

If you are looking for something for firming, then take a look at their H.A. Intensifier (C$132).  This serum is designed to be used after a Vitamin C serum and is ideal for all types of skin.

The H.A. Intensifier is a multi-beneficial corrective serum that is proven to amplify skin’s hyaluronic acid levels. It’s ideal for anti-aging and sun damage and can help reduce the look of crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.  It’s great to use if you already get Botox and fillers as it complements these procedures.

The formula contains a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, as well as proxylane, and botanical extracts of licorice root and purple rice to support skin’s hyaluronic acid levels. With regular use it will help with hydration, as well as improve the appearance of firmness, smoothness, and plumpness.

In the morning apply it after your Vitamin C and at night apply it after your retinol.

If you are looking for smoother and softer skin, then take a look at their Retexturing Activator (C$96). This serum is a replenishing and resurfacing serum that reinforces the skin’s barrier for healthier and more radiant skin.

Skinceuticals Retexturing Activator serum and Photo Corrective Gel

This serum is great for exfoliation while still optimizing the skin’s amino acid supply to reinforce the external barrier.  It contains an oil-free delivery system that is suitable for all skin types, but is particularly great for sensitive skin.  This serum is also oil-free and has the resurfacing power of a daily 20 per cent glycolic acid treatment.

With regular use, skin will look more smooth and supple, as well as more radiant and hydrated.

Finally, for acne-prone or blemish-prone skin, apply the Phyto Corrective Gel (C$82).  This lightweight, oil-free serum includes hyaluronic acid with a blend of cucumber, thyme, olive leaf, and other calming botanical ingredients, which makes it great for acne or sensitive skin (all skin types can use it as well).

This serum calms and soothes skin while evening out skin tone and helping to bring out a more even-toned complexion.  It’s also great with reducing the look of redness after professional treatments and procedures. It’s very calming and hydrating once applied and is also great to use underneath makeup if you suffer from redness.

Okay, so I know that was a lot of information thrown at you in terms of hyaluronic acid serums, but when it comes to skincare and aging, you must include some sort of hyaluronic acid product in your routine. Since Skinceuticals is a medical grade skincare brand, these are all great options which will deliver amazing results.
