GRL PWR: Mary Kay International Women’s Day items

To all the ladies out there, happy International Women’s Day!

To be a woman in today’s day and age is truly a blessing.  Females have come a long way and can pretty much do anything and everything that a man can.  I am a proud female and love hyping up my fellow women as there are so many inspirational females out there doing amazing things.

I’ve chatted about Mary Kay Ash during previous International Women’s Days and she is truly someone who I admire for what she has been able to do not only in business, but for other women.

After experiencing inequality in the workplace, Ash launched her business in 1963 and disrupted the idea of “business as usual”, turning the male-dominated workplace upside down. The cosmetic pioneer dedicated her life to empowering women and putting them in control of their own futures, and her company is now operating in over 40 countries worldwide.

In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, the beauty brand has released three products to celebrate women, as well as to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Their charitable foundation supports both Look Good Feel Better, which supports women living with breast cancer, as well as charities that help end domestic violence by providing grants to women’s shelters and community outreach programs.

Mary Kay Wings of Hope Bracelet Set and Hope Soars Scarf First up, is the Hope Soars Scarf (C$19.50), which is a limited-edition pink scarf that inspires women to fly high and achieve their dreams.  This scarf, when opened up, features a wings detail in a fuchsia colour that blends wonderfully with the baby pink in the rest of the scarf.

The scarf is 100 per cent polyester and will be the perfect accessory for spring. Best part is that 100 per cent of the proceeds support the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, so not only do you get a beautiful scarf, but you are also giving to a great cause when you purchase it.

Mary Kay Wings of Hope Bracelet Set

Another item where 100 per cent of the proceeds go to their charitable foundation is the Wings of Hope bracelet set (C$18.99).  This stainless-steel silver bracelet set includes a beaded bracelet paired with one that features a wings motif filled with zirconia stones.  These two are really pretty paired together or by themselves.

This set is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, and at under $20 it’s a really great gift for a special female in your life.

Limited edition Mary Kay Lip Kit for International Women's Day

Now the item I am most excited about today is their two limited-edition lip kits.  I actually posted about these lip kits on an IG Reel last week (click here to check it out) and I am so obsessed with the colours they chose.

These lip kits (C$32) are available in both a beautiful fuchsia pink and a pinky-nude shade. Each lip kit comes with a lip liner and a creamy lipstick.  The lip liner is a creamy formula which you twist up to dispense the product (no sharpener needed) and the lipstick pairs perfectly with it to give you amazing colour payoff and show-stopping lips.

I love the two shades they chose and honestly it’s tough picking a favourite.  I love the nude since it’s so wearable, but the pink is really bold and will be so perfect for the spring weather up ahead. If you are thinking of grabbing one, don’t wait since they are limited edition and are expected to sell out.

Soft for spring: The skincare you need to try for March 2021

Ah skincare….

Remember back in the day when brands only really had like three products in their lines?  Welcome to 2021 where there is a skincare product for just about any concern.

When it comes to my routine, I definitely don’t play around and I’m the first to admit that I’m very fortunate to be able to be sent amazing products to play around with a try.  When it comes to skincare though, it’s a category that you really have to try and use. It’s not like an eyeshadow palette where in theory, you could use it once and know how it works.  With skincare, sometimes it’s like that depending on the product, but it’s something that you have to experiment around with and use everyday to see how it reacts with your skin.

Typically when I get in a new skincare product or line, I will give it a shot a couple times and then rotate it in every once in a while. The bulk of it I actually keep in my cabinet and typically once I’m out of a certain category of product, like a moisturizer, I’ll go in my cabinet and take out a product that I really wanted to try and experience.

If you are looking for some new items to incorporate into your routine, then here are some items I’ve gotten lately and can’t wait to fully experience.

DermaE Firming DMAE Moisturizer and Ferulic Acid Resurfacing Pads

Derma E Firming DMAE Moisturizer and Ferulic Acid Resurfacing Pads

If you are looking for more firm and lifted skin, then take a look at Derma E’s new products.

For visibly lifted, firmed, and tightened skin, start with the Ferulic Acid Resurfacing Pads (C$34.99), which are pre-soaked cotton pads aimed to remove dead skin cells to cleanse and resurface skin over time.

These pads are infused with a blend of Resveratrol and Kojic Acid, these pads leave skin feeling firmer and stronger by protecting it against free radicals which can age the skin faster since it breaks down collagen. The Kojic Acid is derived from mushrooms, which provides skin brightening benefits and also helps to fade discolouration, such as age, dark and sun spots.  The Resveratrol helps to protect skin from daily environmental stressors and brightens dull-looking skin.

Use these pads sparingly at first, one to three times a week and then build up the usage.  You can also rinse the pads with water to help neutralize them.

After the pads, use the Derma E Firming DMAE Moisturizer (C$36.49), which helps to visibly firm, lift and smooth skin.  This moisturizer, suitable for both day and night usage, will moisturize skin and provides nutrients to it, including Alpha Lipoic Acid, known as a universal antioxidant, and C-Ester, jojoba oil, and Vitamins A and E.  This moisturizer is aimed to help address the loss of elasticity and provide a firming effect.

Apply this moisturizer to your face and neck to lift and firm.  I also want to note that because it has some pretty heavy-duty ingredients (like Vitamin A, which is what is in retinol creams), I would also work your skin up with this one to condition it.

Tula Claydate clay mask

Tula Claydate Detoxing and Toning Face Mask Stick

You guys know I’m completely obsessed with Tula, so whenever they release a new product, I need to get my hands on it ASAP.

Brand new from the probiotic skincare brand is the Claydate Detoxing and Toning Face Mask Stick ($34 USD), which is a clay mask that helps to detox and tone the skin thanks to Mediterranean clay, which draws out dirt and excess oil, all without drying the skin.

The thing I really love about this mask is that is is mess free. When it comes to clay masks, traditionally they are very messy. They are messy to remove and the clay gets everywhere.  This isn’t the case with this one.  This glides not he skin thanks to the stick applicator and it also removes really easily since it does dry down but doesn’t stick to skin.

The formula also contains apple cider vinegar and witch hazel to tighten the appearance of pores, as well as prebiotics and probiotic extracts to balance.  Wear it for at least 10 minutes then rinse off and follow up with the rest of your routine.  You’ll find that your skin also feels nice and soft.

If you want to give this all-star a try, then use code SHAYNA at checkout for 15% off your Tula.com order!

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Dream Body Cream and Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Dream Body Cream and Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

Now a little something for your body.

I don’t know about you, but my body has been feeling so dry lately, so when I got in Glow Recipe’s newest product I was over the moon to try it out.

As part of their iconic Watermelon Glow line, they just released the Watermelon Glow Pink Dream Body Cream (C$37), which is a lightweight body cream that is ideal for all skin types.

This body cream contains watermelon seed butter to moisturize, hibiscus AHA to smooth skin, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate. This body lotion is very silky, light, and absorbs nicely into the skin without a greasy feel. The watermelon seed butter and hibiscus AHA is traditionally used for facial care so it’s a nice feeling on your body and will provide hydration that lasts all day.

This body cream comes in a plastic bottle with a pump, which is something different from their traditional glass ones. I love the scent of this lotion and especially love how quickly it dries into your skin and how it doesn’t leave you with a greasy feel.

I like applying this lotion to my body at night and will sometimes pair it with the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask (C$59).  This mask is a lightweight gel mask that you apply before bed to wake up with radiant, smooth, and hydrated skin.

This mask contains hyaluronic acid for moisture, as well as amino-acid-rich watermelon extract to hydrate, soothe, and fight free radical damage which causes fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.  It also has AHA, which is a gentle chemical exfoliator which helps to get rid of dead skin, smooth fine lines, soften skin’s texture, diminish dark spots, and clarify the pores. It also has pumpkin extract, which repairs skin and defends it against free radicals as well.

You can either apply this mask as a sleeping mask or apply it as a wash-off mask. I really like this one since it’s different from any other mask in my collection in terms of the texture. It’s very lightweight, cooling, and although it doesn’t feel like it would pack a punch, it definitely does.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Rosy Tone

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Rosy Tone

Another skincare line (or just line in general) I love is IT Cosmetics.  I’ve used a ton of their products, including their skincare ones, and have really enjoyed them.

I recently got sent their Confidence in a Cream Rosy Tone Moisturizer (C$64), which is their moisturizer aimed at anti-aging. I’ve tried a number of their Confidence in a Cream products, so I was really pleased to see that they have this version as well.

This moisturizer is enhanced with rosy tone pigments which help to revitalize skin to give it instant vitality, something that you lose as you age.  Any skin type can use this, and if you are looking for something aimed at anti-aging then this is a great option as it gently exfoliates and stimulates surface cell renewal, which helps to make you look younger.

The formula contains iris root, peony extract, aloe leaf juice, squalane, chickpea extract, and lipohydroxy acid which will helps to transform dull skin thanks to its ability to boost natural surface cell turnover.  With regular use you will notice a move lifted appearance and smoother, more even-looking skin.

Skincare to try in March 2021 from Glow Recipe, DermaE, Tula, and IT Cosmetics

There are so many products to try out this month and I have been loving the releases that brands have been coming out with.  When it comes to skincare, there are so many options to try and if you are looking for something new, then these are all great options.

What’s in your current skincare routine?

Spring scents: Three perfumes to try this spring

I can’t even tell you about the joy I have right now typing the word “spring”.  The sun is rising earlier and setting later, the weather is getting warmer, and I just feel happier (the sun really does wonders on your mental health).  With spring finally on the horizon, that means that my wardrobe is changing, I’m spending more time outside, and I’m gravitating towards more fruity and floral fragrances.

I have so many perfumes in my collection already, but truthfully, when it comes to fragrances, you can really never have enough.  Each one has it’s own distinct scent and story, and depending on my mood that day, that usually decides what I want to wear.

So if you are looking for some new scents to try out this season, here are three new ones recommend.

Avon Lyrd Rose du Soleil

Avon LYRD Rose du Soleil

New from Avon as part of their LYRD line is Rose du Soleil (C$52), an eau de perfum which gives you a warm and floral scent, perfect for that transitional period between the end of winter and earlier spring.

This scent has notes of sun-ripened raspberry, rose, and spicy patchouli, which is both fresh, vibrant, and warm.

I really like this scent since it’s very comforting and easy to wear.  It’s a great one for everyday and very cozy, warm, and distinct, but also fresh.

Atelier Cologne Lemon Island Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume

Atelier Cologne Lemon Island Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume

Speaking of fresh and floral fragrances, Atelier Cologne’s newest scent fits the bill perfectly as well.

Lemon Island (C$185) is a fresh floral scent that will transport you to an island with fresh seawater. Lemon Island open with lemon from the Indian Ocean, jasmine from India, and vanilla infusion from Madagascar.  There is also notes of green lemon from Rodrique, an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, which are used in a perfume for the first time.

This scent is really light and fruity.  You can smell the lemon and the sea salt coming through on this one, which would make it so perfectly for a beach vacation (I wish!!). Until we can actually travel again, this is a good scent to use to transport you mentally to somewhere warmer and more beautiful.

Mary Kay If You Believe eau de toilette

Mary Kay If You Believe Eau de Toilette

If you are more into sweeter scents, then give Mary Kay’s newest limited-edition fragrance a shot.

If You Believe Eau de Toilette (C$39) is described as a woody citrus floral and includes notes of bergamot with pink muguet, and sandalwood oil. This perfume is also a nice one to wear for everyday wear and it comes in a beautiful blue bottle with a purple top.

Since this scent is under $50 too, it makes for a great one to pick up since it’s so affordable and easy to wear.

Of course there are so many other new perfumes to try out, as well as old favourites, but if you are looking for something new, these are all great options.  Best part about fragrance too if that it’s so easy to wear. I may not wear as much makeup anymore, but a little spritz of perfume is the best way to start my day.
