Fresh refresh: Four facial sprays to try out this summer

It is getting *hot* outside guys.

Although my skincare routine is quite lengthy, I love to use a facial spray at the end of my routine, as well as throughout the day to provide a burst of hydration.  Over the past year I have collected a number of these sprays and although there are so many formulas on the market, they really are all quite different. There’s sprays for nighttime, for daytime, for tanning… I can go on and on.

If you haven’t gotten one already, I do recommend picking up a facial spray to incorporate into your routine, especially in the summer months. If you are at a loss for which one to try, then keep reading…

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist and Laneige Cream skin mist

The one to use in the morning

For the morning, nothing lifts my spirits more than the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist (C$37). This ultra-fine mist (and I really mean it when I say “ultra-fine”) is formulated with 84 per cent watermelon, hyaluronic acid, and hibiscus to hydrate and fresh skin and enhance your makeup. The hibiscus also gently smooths the look of your skin’s texture and softens and hydrates it, leaving it prepped for your makeup.  Finally, it also contains apple cider vinegar to balance oil production, and rice germ oil to protect your skin against free radicals.

I love using this spray as a last step in my morning skincare routine since it smells magazine and is really hydrating. Although I don’t wear much makeup anymore, it’s also great as a base  for your makeup as it helps to prep your skin for the most flawless application.

The one to use at night

If you want to feel like you’re at the spa (since nothing is more relaxing), then take a look at the Cadaulie Beauty Elixir.

The Beauty Elixir (C$59) is a cult-classic spray is inspired by the youth elixir that the Queen of Hungary used in the 16th century.  It contains 100 per cent natural-origin ingredients, including plant extracts, to reveal radiant and visibly smooth skin. I have been using this spray for years and it’s one of my all-time favourite beauty products. Not only does this smell amazing, but it also leaves your face glowing and hydrated all night long.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

The one to keep with you wherever you go

For some extra hydration throughout the day, give the Laneige Cream Skin Mist (C$36) a shot.

This refreshing mist spray is great for touchups throughout the day since it gives your skin a blast of hydration for up to 12 hours. This mist is great for all skin types and contains white leaf tea water to support the skin’s moisture barrier while hydrating and soothing.

I love this spray since it’s so handy to keep with you for on-the-go hydration. I like to use it a couple times throughout the day (especially with the warmer weather), since it’s so refreshing and instantly brightens the mood.  I also want to note that the bottle mists this out perfectly, which I know if a weird thing to say, but honestly, I’ve tried a lot of these sprays and sometimes the packaging is so hit or miss.

You can also wear this just on bare skin or over makeup to give you a hydrated glow.

Sunnatan Keep Me Sunkissed

The one for more sun…

Okay, so ladies we should all be wearing our SPF everyday but the struggle is we still want that beautiful glow.  Thankfully there are so many facial tanning products available on the market nowadays and one of my new favourites is by Sunnatan.

The Sunnatan Face Water (C$39) is a spray formulated for facial wear.  This spray adds a warm and subtle glow to your face with regular use and is formulated with anti-aging ingredients like hyaluronic acid, witch hazel water, and red maple extract. It also contains a natural scent of vanilla fruit water and will leave skin hydrated and glowing.

i love using this at night (since that’s when I usually apply tanner).  After I spray it, I like to use  the Sunnatan Face Brush to help blend it in and make it all even.  Sunnatan also offers a bundle with the facial spray and the brush for C$48, so it makes the cost more affordable to pick up both of the products.

I’ve used a bunch of different facial waters over the year but I have really been enjoying these ones and have included them on constant rotation for the past month or so. There’s just something so refreshing about spraying these on your face and truthfully, I can never get enough.

What’s your favourite facial spray?

It’s about time: Tarte Shape Tape comes to Sephora Canada

I think it’s safe to say that when it comes to concealers, the most iconic one is Tarte Shape Tape.

Originally released years ago, the number-one selling concealer in the U.S. was initially an Ulta exclusive, meaning that us folks in Canada could only really order it direct from the Tarte site.  Of course, tons of people obviously did so since I feel like if you’re a beauty girl, it’s probably already in your makeup bag, but if you wanted to see the shades up close and personal, then you had to go based on reviews and swatches online.

Well that’s changed as of last month. Tarte Shape Tape and its family of products finally landed in Sephora stores and Sephora.ca on May 11 and it makes getting the coveted beauty products so much easier.

Not only is there the concealer that started it all, but there’s also a setting spray, primer, glow wand, loose setting powder, and glow powder.

Tarte Shape Tape and Glow Wand

Starting first with the concealer, Sephora now carries 35 shades of the Shape Tape Concealer (C$38) in five different undertones. This concealer features a large doe-foot wand to deliver a formula that includes shea butter to retain skin’s visible elasticity, mango butter to moisturize, and licorice root to brighten and colour correct.

Apply this under your eyes or wherever you need brightening and concealing for up to 16 hours of wear that con’t crease or cake on the skin.  It also includes their Tape Technology which blurs the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  If you are looking for a heavy-duty concealer, then I would definitely look into picking this guy up. There’s a reason why it’s so iconic, and having used it for I think six or seven years now, it really does what it’s billed to do.

Now the original Shape Tape provides a matte finish, but if you are looking for a little glow, then take a look at their Shape Tape Glow Wand (C$35).

This double-ended product is billed as a visible eye lift in a tube.  It’s a more lighter coverage than it’s predecessor but helps to soothe and illuminate, as well as moisturize, condition, and protect against free-radical damage.  It also helps to blur imperfections thanks to the added diamond powder.

One end of the package opens up to a doe-foot applicator, whereas the other end has a blending sponge so you can work the product into your skin. There are eight shades available in this one and I like using this on lighter makeup days where I want my skin to look more radiant and natural. It’s a great product for summer to apply before the pool or beach.

Tarte Shape Tape Glow Powder and Translucent powder

As for setting powders, Tarte has two to choose from in their Shape Tape line. Up first is the Shape Tape Glow Powder (C$38).  This pressed powder, available in three shades, is a light-reflecting finishing powder that provides you with up to 12 hours of wear.

The coverage is on the lighter side but contains their diamond powder to blur and diffuse imperfections, their iconic Amazonian clay for longer wear, and mineral pigments to soothe and soften skin.

This particular powder pairs nicely with the Glow Wand to give you a beautiful glowing and radiant finish.

Tarte also has a loose powder, the Shape Tape Setting Powder (C$41) for a more traditional finish. Available in two shades (translucent and translucent tan-deep), this powder is great for setting makeup, as well as baking and blurring imperfections.

This powder includes Amazonian clay to give you a longer wear and I love using this to set the concealer, as well as the rest of my makeup. It contains a sifter and sponge, but I prefer using a sponge to press it directly into my skin.

Sephora also now has two other products that are also part of the Tarte Shape Tape family. First up is the Base Tape Hydrating Primer (C$39), which is a primer that helps makeup last longer.

This primer is great for normal, oily, dry, and combination skin types and helps with dry skin. It contains coconut, which is nourishing; jojoba to leave skin soothed, soft, and supple; as well as grapeseed to hydrate.

I love this primer since it smells like summer (it’s definitely the coconut) and is super lightweight and hydrating.  In fact, it’s billed to keep skin hydrated for up to 12 hours, while also extending the longevity of your makeup.  This also helps to provide a smooth canvas for your makeup, filling in any lines and pores, so when you apply your face products, everything goes on really smoothly.

Tarte Base Tape and Stay Spray Finally, to keep everything in check, take a look at their Stay Spray Setting Spray (C$30). This setting spray holds makeup in place for 16 hours and contains cucumber extract to soothe and refresh skin, as well as aloe extract to hydrate and soothe any irritation.

This setting spray lightly mists onto skin to set makeup and provide an instant burst of hydration. It also holds makeup in place, even through water, sweat, and any transfer that may occur. The formula is also amazing for refreshing and soothing skin as well.

If you are interested in any of these products, Tarte also has the mini sizes available to try out as well. I’ve used all of these items and really like them.  Out of all of them though, I would definitely pick up the Shape Tape concealer and give it a try, especially if you suffer with undereye problems, or if you’ve just always wanted to try it.

Have you tried any of the Tarte Shape Tape products?

Your best brows yet: Three Benefit Cosmetics brow products you need

Benefit brow products My current makeup routine? A tinted moisturizer, concealer, a little bronzer, mascara, and brow products!

Since wearing a mask is a real doozy when it comes to applying makeup, if I’m going to put on some beauty products I like to keep it nice and light. Since I’m probably due back for a microblading touchup at this point, after I apply my tinted moisturizer I like to go in and fill in any sparsity in my brows. And the brand I usually reach for? Benefit of course!

I’ve been using Benefit’s brow products for years now and truthfully, after having tried out so many other brands, I do have to say I probably like Benefit the best.  They have so many options to choose from, the products glide on the skin, and they stay put.

Benefit brow products

So if you’re curious on what items to try out (since they have such a huge arsenal of products), keep reading!

Okay, so when it comes to brows, the first thing you want to do is fill them in.  I love using a fine tip pencil and that’s where Precisely, My Brow Pencil comes in (C$32).

Available in 12 shades, this bestselling brow product is long wearing and waterproof. It features an ultra-fine tip allowing you to recreate brow hairs that look natural and flawless. One end contains a spoolie for grooming and the other has the retractable pencil which helps to shape and contour brows for a natural-looking effect.

Benefit Precisely, My Brow pencil

This pencil is one of my favourites and I find it does last all day.  It’s great for adding in a natural brow effect and won’t smudge or move throughout the day. Benefit has a lot of brow pencils to choose from, but truthfully I really love this one since the the pencil itself is very thin and allows you to customize the look you are going for. It really does leave you with a natural effect and the pigment of the product just glides on the skin. You don’t have to press down too hard for this pencil to show up (using a dry pencil is the worst).

Now that you have your perfect brows down-pat, don’t forget to set them! Grab Benefit’s 24-HR Brow Setter Clear Eyebrow Gel (C$32) to lock those brow hairs in place.

This clear brow gel helps to shape and tame brows, as well as lock in those perfectly drawn brows so they don’t budge for 24 hours.

Benefit Browvo Conditioning Gel and 24-HR Setting Gel

Benefit also has a tinted brow gel as well but I love this one since it’s clear and universal. I love swiping this on to groom and tame and I find the formula to be flexible, not stiff. It also doesn’t flake off at all throughout the day.

Finally, to condition your brows and help them grow, take a look at their Browvo Conditioning Primer (C$38).

I didn’t actually actually know this product existed until recently and it’s a clear, nutrient-rich gel that primes and conditions brows, helping them to grow and look healthier.

Apply this primer before bed or even before you fill in your brows to help them grow and be healthier. The formula contains keratin and soy proteins, which are known to help brows grow and look fuller.  In addition to giving your brows a nice treat, this is also great to use underneath your brow products as a primer so your products last longer.

The applicator is a soft-touch one that allows you to sweep this pen from root to tip.  Although it’s not necessarily a necessity, if you suffer from sparse brows, then I would definitely take a look at incorporating this product into your brow routine (at least at night).

Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Benefit has in their brow line up. I would recommend waiting to get one of their sets since you can usually get a bunch of full-size products for an amazing price (usually less than half off), so keep your eyes peeled for releases.

Do you use any Benefit brow products?
