Summer vacay: Summertime makeup look feat. Kylie Cosmetics Vacation palette

I was thinking that other day that summer is just flying by.  Guys, it’s already the end of July, and when I really think about it, what have I done all summer? Okay, to be fair, I have travelled a fair bit, and yes, I have been to a beach and going to my friend’s cabin this weekend, but it feels like summer has just begun.  There are so many things I feel like I need to do.

Anyways, as I mentioned in a couple posts ago, I recently bought the Kylie Cosmetics Take Me On Vacation palette since I a) have a makeup problem, and b) I’m a sucker for summer eyeshadows.  I love bronzes and pinks with the occasional blue thrown in.

The Kylie Cosmetics Take Me On Vacation palette is the perfect summer palette since it features lots of lighter colours to complement a tan. There are 16 shades in here, seven shimmers and nine mattes. There’s some shimmery pinks and golds, lots of browns, and the most stunning shimmery blue that will have you dreaming of the beach in the Caribbean.

The palette also includes a dual-ended brush, one side being an eyeshadow brush and the other a fluffy crease brush. The pigmentation of the colours are fabulous and blend out easily. This is my first time trying one of her eyeshadow palettes and I’m very impressed with the formula of the shadows. The one I was the most hesitant with was the blue colour (Island Girl), however, I found it went on quite pigmented and creamy right off the hop (although I did layer it over a blue eyeliner in this particular look).

Makeup look featuring Kylie Cosmetics Take Me On Vacation palette 1. Fill in your brows then lay down a neutral eyeshadow primer from your lids to your brow bone.  Then, using a pink cream eyeshadow, apply that to your lids (I used Sigma Beauty Awake Eye Shadow Base).

2. With a fluffy crease brush, apply Sea Breeze to the crease lightly to act as a transition shade.

3. With an eyeshadow brush, apply First Class to your lids.

4. With that same eyeshadow brush, apply Summer ’17 lightly over First Class.

5. With a crease brush, apply Coconut to the crease.

6. Using that same brush, apply Palm Tree to the crease to darken it up.

7. Line your upper lash line using a brown eyeliner to soften the look (I used Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner in Satiny Taupe. Then curl your lashes and apply some mascara (I used CoverGirl Total Tease mascara, L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise, and Benefit They’re Real!). If you wish, you can add some falsies (although I didn’t).

8. To finish it all up, you can either apply Island Girl directly along your lower lash line or apply  blue liner first. I used Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner in Matte Pastel Blue. After, apply mascara to your lower lashes.

To finish off the look, apply a flawless foundation (I used NARS Sheer Glow – a fave of mine), some bronzer (Stila Stay All Day bronzer), a peachy blush (Mary Kay), a wicked highlighter (Tarte), and a nude matte lipstick (Kylie Cosmetics in Bare- also from the vacation collection).

Overall, I really like this palette and have been using it non-stop since I purchased it. The only thing I don’t like is that there is no highlight in there. For this look I actually used a highlight shade from the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. Sure, you can use the shimmery pink to highlight the inner corner, but I often wear that colour on the lid, so it defeats the purpose. Not a huge deal, but if I do take this palette on vacation I’ll have to make sure I have a shimmery or matte cream for highlighting.

Blondes have more fun: Klorane Chamomile lightening hair products

You know, I have to admit it: blondes have more fun.

At least for me, that is.

I’ve been going back and forth between blonde and brunette since I was basically 12 years old. Even though I’m happy with my current ombre, when I look at photos of me as a blonde, I get the itch to dive in all over again. What’s holding me back? Time.

Not only do I not want to sit in a chair for four hours (I have pretty thick hair, and it’s long), but finding the time to make an appointment is also a challenge since I have a pretty full schedule. Enter, highlight-enhancing hair products.

When I heard about Klorane’s chamomile hair products for blonde to light-brown hair, I knew I would totally dig it. Available in a shampoo, conditioner, and sun-lightening spray, this line uses chamomile to enhance blonde highlights, whether your colour is natural, highlighted, or colour-treated.

Apparently this line has been around for awhile, but since I’ve been meaning to go blonder I was super excited to try it out. I received the shampoo and conditioner, as well as the Sun Lightening Spray with Chamomile and Honey and was excited to put it to the test.

I talked about the Klorane Sun Lightening Spray with Chamomile and Honey – Blond Hair , 4.22 fl. oz. last week, but you use this on damp hair (preferably after the shampoo and conditioner from the same line) and the idea is that it will gradually brighten and lighten hair without bleaching agents, such as hydrogen peroxide.

I’ve used all three products a while now (and even took the sun lightening spray travelling earlier this week) and I’ve actually found that the blonde in my hair looks brighter. The Klorane Blond Radiance and Intensity Shampoo with Chamomile 400ml/13.4oz and Klorane Brightening and Detangling Conditioner with Chamomile 150ml/5.16oz doesn’t really lather up that well (the shampoo is rather thin, whereas the conditioner is a thick cream), so I was hesitant about how well it would work, but even when my locks are damp, the blonde looks more vibrant.

If you’re looking for a haircare routine to make your blonde blonder, I would look into these, especially the spray, which you can use for an all over or highlighted effect. Even after one wash I noticed that my blonde looked more sun kissed. This doesn’t make your colour more platinum but instead it’s a lot more brighter looking. If you’re planning on spending a lot of time in the sun this season, then I would pick these up and incorporate them in your hair routine.

Please note, I received these products from PR. All opinions are my own.

Summer soiree: Mary Kay Baked Cheek Powders and summertime eyeshadow palette

My idea of the perfect summertime eyeshadow palette? One that has some nudes and a fun colour thrown in. So naturally, I was totally digging Mary Kay’s summertime jewel-inspired quad.

As part of their summer collection, the legendary direct-buy brand has released an assortment of products, including some baked blushes, a summertime quad, a lipstick, a charcoal mask, and more. Their PR team was kind enough to send me a few products from the line to try out and since their stuff has blown me away in the past, I was very excited to try this all out.

The thing I was most excited for? Those baked blushes. Available in two shades, Kind Heart (peach-toned shimmer) and Giving Heart (reddish pink with purple shimmer) don’t look that special when you see their black compacts, but as soon as you open them up, the product is shaped as a heart and totally Too Faced-esque.

Mary Kay Beauty That Counts blushes in Kind Heart and Giving Heart

Both are stunning shades and you can either wear them separately or mix them together for a custom look. Not only are they super chic, but each purchase of these limited-edition Beauty That Counts blushes (C$18) benefits the Mary Kay Foundation, which includes its support of women’s shelters and survivors of domestic abuse.

I totally love rocking peachy blushes in the summer months so I’ve been loving Kind Heart. In case you aren’t familiar with the difference between a regular blush and a baked one, baked blushes are originally creams that are baked to a solid. The process of baking it creates a powder that is creamier in texture and also includes fewer filler ingredients. As a result, the colours are more concentrated and pigmented, making them often last longer. I did notice that when I applied these blushes, a little definitely goes a long way. Go in with these with a light hand as they do pack on product.

The other makeup item I received to try out is the summertime jewel eyeshadow palette. This guy comes in a compact that lets you flip up the powder portion enabling you to pop out the pans if you would rather put them in something like a Z Palette.

This palette contains a blush in the shade Sunny Spice, a mauve, and three eyeshadows – Sweet Cream (bone cream), Hazelnut (dark brown), and Emerald (shimmery green). Even though there are three eyeshadow colours in here (all of which are mineral), you can definitely create a variety of looks. You can do just a normal eyeshadow look (cream on the lids, brown in the crease), a bold look (emerald over the lid, brown in the crease, cream as the highlight), a pop of colour (with emerald as the lower liner), and more.  If you are used to pigmented shadows, keep an open mind with these as they apply a little more subtle. For the emerald, I had to swipe my brush in it a few times to get colour, which was quite disappointing (even after using mixing medium it didn’t really apply the colour more pigmented).  I guess though if you are scared of colour, then this formula may be for you.

As you can see, I’m totally digging Mary Kay’s summer collection. It may seem plain when you first look at it, but these are all staple shades (okay, maybe not the emerald, but it’s fun!) that really anyone should include in their collection.

Have you purchased anything from Mary Kay’s summer 2017 collection?
