Makeup, done right: Fancii Tria LED-Lighted Tri-Fold Makeup Mirror

Ever do your makeup in your bathroom, think you look fly as hell, and then leave and take a look at yourself and natural lighting and it looks like you’re wearing too much makeup or your foundation doesn’t match the rest of your body? That happens to me all the time.

My bathroom lighting is yellow-toned, so although I think I look great while I’m applying my makeup, once I leave, I notice that I didn’t do as great a job as I thought I did. To rectify this situation, I’ve started to do my makeup with a hand mirror in front of a window so I can work with natural lighting, but when it gets dark it’s kinda tough to do this.

I’ve always wanted one of those portable mirrors that have an LED light on them, but I often find them too expensive. Well, I was recently approached by Canadian-based online retailer, Fancii & Co., which specializes in in-demand beauty tools that won’t break the bank, to try out some of their products and I jumped at the chance to give their Tria – Trifold Vanity Mirror a shot.

I’ve seen these before, often sent out by brands with their logos on them, and have always wanted one, not only for home use, but also travel (I have some girls trips coming up, so this way I won’t have to wait in line for the bathroom mirror). The Tria- Trifold Vanity Mirror features a large mirror in the centre and then two wings that open up to a 1x, 5x, and 10x magnification. Best of all, it has touch-sensor button for natural daylight colour-correct LED lights, so I don’t have to set up shop in front of a window anymore.

Ever since I got this mirror, I have been pretty much obsessed with applying my makeup in front of it. Also, the lighting on it is perfect for getting rid of any unwanted facial hair since the lighting really highlights those little hairs that you normally wouldn’t notice until you’re outside in the sunshine (and then you feel self-conscious since you think everyone is staring at them… okay, maybe that’s just me). This mirror is battery operated or comes with a USB cord to power up and the illumination can be adjusted by just holding down the button on the mirror, so if you want it brighter or dimmer, you can do that.

Since it is 11.5-inches tall and 13-inches wide, it is perfect for travel. The mirror part is also detachable from the base so it’s easy to store. The base also has an organizer base, so you can keep your everyday makeup items in it. Fancii also has a number of other mirrors on their site (as well as facial cleansing brushes, hair straighteners, etc.), but I really love this one since it has the magnification on it (perfect for tweezing your eyebrows, applying false lashes, winged liner, etc.).

Best part of all is that it retails for C$45.99 (for comparison, this one from Simple Human is $500). Like I said, I’ve always wanted one of these mirrors, but I’m so happy that I held out to pick one up. I travel often, so I think this would be great to toss into my suitcase for trips where I’m putting more effort into my makeup (vacation versus work travel). Also, like I said, that dreaded bathroom light is not good matching my foundation to my neck, so this has definitely come in handy. I also love how they are a Canadian company, and their products shipped fast and was delivered through Amazon (not sure if all their products are shipping from Amazon).

If you are looking for a vanity mirror, then definitely check them out.

Shade and skin: CoverGirl TruBlend Matte Made Foundation

I’ve always been a huge fan of CoverGirl foundations. Case in point, recently I’ve been travelling with their Vitalist Elixir foundation instead of my $50 ones from Sephora since I find it just gives me an amazing coverage and I love the skincare benefits in it.

I chatted about CoverGirl’s new branding and products last week but I had to do a dedicated post to the new TruBlend Matte Made Foundation since CG is really proud of their new innovation, and with good reason. Typically foundations have the tendency to only come in 12 or so shades, most of which lean more towards peach, yellow, or olive skin tones. This isn’t the case with this one. The brand came out with a staggering 40 shades (including 26 new shades) categorized into four categories (light, medium, tan, and deep).

This foundation provides medium-to-full coverage that gives you a flawless, naturally matte appearance. It also is comfortable to wear, minimizes pores, control oils, and is transfer resistant (we’ll get more into that in a second).

I was provided with three shades of this foundation, M10 (Golden Natural), M30 (Honey), and M40 (Warm Nude). Since I am quite pale without a tan, I’ve been using M10 and find that it suits my skin perfectly. It is very lightweight on the face and absorbs into my skin quite nicely (in that it doesn’t just sit on top of the skin, like some of my other foundations do). It has a flex-hold technology (PVP), that creates a strong, yet flexible film that’s comfortable on skin. Considering it gives you a medium-to-full coverage, it doesn’t go on heavy.

Now CoverGirl says its transfer-proof, which is a very high claim. I took it to the test and applied the foundation then put on a white top, making sure to brush the collar across my face. There was some colour on the shirt, but not as much as other foundations would give you. That would be pretty incredible technology if a foundation could truly do that without getting your clothes dirty.

I chatted about this in my last CoverGirl post, but I really do love this foundation. It goes on so light and gives you a nice airbrush effect that makes your skin look smooth and flawless. If you suffer from redness or blemishes, then I would definitely try this out. The best part is that it’s C$13.99 (SRP), which is much lower than other drugstore foundations (and you can probably find it on sale as well).

To find you perfect shade, CoverGirl recommends the following:

You have a neutral undertone if the veins on your wrist are blue/green, both gold and silver jewelry suit you; and your skin tone appears olive.  You have a warm undertone if the veins on your wrist are green/olive; gold jewelry suits you best; your skin tone appears yellow or gold; you tan easily; if so, choose a peach or yellow-based foundation. You have a cool undertone if the veins on your wrist are blue/purple; silver jewelry suits you best; you are pink or beige skin toned; you get sunburned easily; if you choose a pink-based foundation.

To go with the foundation, I highly recommend some of their other new products, the TruBlend Base Business Primer (I have the pore minimizing one – the purple one), as well as the TruBlend It’s Lit Concealer.

I paired the TruBlend It’s Lit Concealer in the photos above and below and love how it pairs with the foundation. It provides coverage, as well as radiance and brightening. The concealer is available in seven shades – fair, light, medium, light/medium, medium, medium/deep, and deep), and each shade was formulated with increased chroma and pearlescent pigments to combat dullness, enhance brightness, and conceal imperfections. I will say that it’s not the heaviest concealer I own, but it’s very light on the skin, meaning that it absorbs well and doesn’t look or feel cakey.

If you are looking for a new foundation, I would highly recommend taking a look at TruBlend Matte Made. If you have a darker skin tone, I would definitely recommend checking this out, since the colours do go quite deep. CoverGirl, you did it again, kudos!

One-shot skincare: IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream

If there is one CC cream that is getting all the hype, it’s the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream.

You guys know I have been a huge fan of IT Cosmetics since I basically started this blog back in 2011. I have loads of products from them, however since they were sold to L’Oreal I have been pretty much out of the loop until this year. The one product I did hear about though was their famed CC cream.

The Your Skin But Better CC Cream is a colour-correcting full-coverage cream and anti-aging hydrating serum. Oh, and then top that off with SPF 50. Sounds like the ideal face product, right? Available in seven different shades, this product is clinically shown to give you 179% of skin hydration, smooth skin texture, and enhance skin brightness. It’s colour-correcting formula doesn’t crease and blurs out skin imperfections. It also is infused with an advanced anti-aging serum that is made of hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and vitamins A,B,C, and E to minimize the look of wrinkles, pores, and give you more radiant skin. So basically it’s the best product ever.

When it comes to BB and CC creams, I tend to reach for these often when I don’t feel like wearing something heavy on my face but still want a bit of coverage. Since these products tend to have an SPF in them, they are most ideal for summer days at the pool or beach (or really anytime you know you will be spending a lot of time outdoors). This CC cream takes it further since it provides full coverage, which is quite rare of this kind of product, and really does provide a more flawless finish than its other counterparts on the market.

IT Cosmetics is known for infusing their items with skincare and this is no different. The CC cream applies wonderfully and makes my skin look and feel flawless. I got the shade Medium, which is their most popular. I do have to admit that I thought it would be a little lighter in tone, but it’ll be perfect for my tanned skin this summer.

Before and after using IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream

Overall, the hype is so real with this one. If you aren’t a foundation person, then I would definitely recommend this. If you are planning a vacation or will be spending a lot of time outdoors this summer but don’t want anything heavy on the face, then I recommend this. Basically, I recommend this product on any instance, it’s just that good. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a total foundation girl, but sometimes it’s nice to give my skin a break and wear something lighter. Skincare benefits and sun factor included, well, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Have you tried IT Cosmetics’ CC cream? What are your thoughts?

Please note, product sent by PR, all opinions are my own.
