Heart-shaped lashes: Avon True Color Love at 1st Lash mascara

When it comes to mascaras, I love trying out new ones.

A lot of products seem to work for me, but when it comes to mascaras, they can be hit or miss. Mascaras are also finicky in that I find they work best after about a month’s worth of wear.  I find that the mascara formula works better with my lashes when it’s more dried out as opposed to super wet like it is when you first open a bottle.

Avon Love at 1st Lash mascara

Anyways, this brings me to today’s post on Avon’s newest mascara, the Love at 1st Lash mascara (C$19.99), which features an innovative brush that is designed to give you instant length and volume in one application.

This mascara features their Love Complex Formula, which helps to strengthen and condition your lashes for a flirty fluttering effect. The formula features heart-shaped, lash-hugging fibres that attach to the lashes and intertwine to give you lashes that are super noticeable. It also contains vitamins A, C, and E to condition lashes, as well as olive oil and lycopene to strengthen them. Avon says it’s also smudge-free, clump-free, and won’t flake off while you wear it.

Okay, so I do want to preface this post and say that I actually got a lash lift and tint, so in the swatches my lashes do look amazing, however, this is the way they look without the mascara.   I didn’t love this mascara for a lot of reasons. The brush on this is this weird spiral that makes applying it kind of awkward. I also found that it just coated my lashes but didn’t really do anything truly groundbreaking to them to make them pop.

Avon also offers this mascara in a waterproof formula if you try it and like it on your lashes.  I’ve tried some of their other mascaras as well and prefer those formulas over this one, but really when it comes down to it, to each their own.

Skincare solution: Rodan + Fields Redefine Regimen for Anti-Aging

Skincare, skincare, skincare… Can you ever really have enough of it?

The answer is obviously no!

I get to try out a lot of direct-sale beauty brands, and for the most part, I really enjoy their products. One of these brands, which is a little bit more pricier than their counterparts, is Rodan + Fields (R+F).

In case you aren’t familiar with R+F, they are a direct-sales skincare line that is backed by a scientific approach, meaning that their products are developed with doctors, PhDs, and research & development experts.  They have a number of skincare regimens and each one is targeted towards a different skincare concern. Each regimen consists of products, that when used together, addresses your specific needs.

For the past few months I have been using their Redefine regimen (C$242) most days of the week (when I’m not trying out other products). This regimen features their Multi-Med Therapy, which is based on delivering the right ingredients in the right formulations in the right order for the most visible results.  Included in the package are four products, that when used together, help to visibly improve fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of firmness, leaving you with younger-looking skin.

Rodan + Fields Redefine Regime

This line includes the the Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask (125 ml), the Redefine Pore Minimizing Toner (125 ml), the Redefine Triple Defense Treatment SPF 30 (30 ml) and the Redefine Overnight Restorative Cream (30 ml).

Start first with the Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask (C$52), which can be use morning and night, and is an exfoliating cleanser that visibly softens and smooths skin, as well as purifies pores.  Apply this to your face and leave on for a couple minutes before rinsing off. Remember to be mindful around the eye area since it does have exfoliating beads in it.

Afterwards, apply the Redefine Pore Minimizing Toner (C$58), which is a toner with clarifying ingredients that minimizes the appearance of pores.  This feels so good on your skin after the cleanser, and your skin feels so soft after the two when used together.

To moisturize, you actually get two different ones in this set. The daytime moisturizer, which is the Redefine Triple Defense Treatment SPF 30 (C$102), is actually a hydrating sunscreen that, when used regularly, will visibly improve lines, wrinkles, and skin firmness. I love how this moisturizer has SPF 30 in it, meaning that I don’t need to apply another sunscreen after my moisturizer in the morning.  This also doesn’t have any scent to it, which is nice since sunscreen can have that chemically scent.

Finally, for the nighttime, apply the Redefine Overnight Restorative Cream (C$94), which is an ultra-moisturizing night cream that works through the night to visibly firm skin, while reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Rodan + Fields Redefine Regime

Like I said, I have been using these products pretty regularly since I got them a couple months ago and have really enjoyed how they make my skin look and feel.  I have pretty young-looking skin anyways, so these just help keep me young and keep those wrinkles and fine lines at bay.

Now I do have to admit that this set is pretty pricey, especially considering that you don’t get an eye treatment or a serum in here (you can find both of those separately in the R+F line and there is in fact a Redefine Multi-Function Eye Cream).  I guess you technically don’t need a serum with this since the brand says that this is all you need, but I do like to apply one anyways.  I would recommend definitely applying an eye cream though since that area of skin on your face is more delicate than the rest.

I really like regimen and enjoy applying the products in here (especially that cleanser, it feels so good on the skin).  If you can afford it, I would look at giving it a go.  The price does seem high, however, all these items are very expensive when sold separately ($306 compared to $242!).

Sunkissed skin: Avon fmg Colors of Love Cushion Blushes, Illuminators and Bronzers

When it comes to summer face makeup, cream products are usually my go-to products.

I blogged about Fenty Beauty’s newest cream blushes and bronzers a few weeks ago and have been using them a lot lately, especially if I’m going to the lake or hanging by the pool. I love them so much that when I got in Avon’s new cushion products I was super excited to try them.

The Avon FMG Colors of Love collection features cushion brushes, highlighters, and bronzers. The formulas in these products contain skincare benefits, meaning that it will nourish your skin as you wear them.

Avon fmg Colors of Love Cushion blushes Avon fmg Colors of Love Cushion blushes

The Avon FMG Colors of Love Kiss Me Cushion blushes and illuminators (C$38 each) have a water-based formula that contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin.  Open up the compact to reveal a cushion filled with product, as well as a mirror and a pouf to apply it with.

There are four blushes to choose from and two highlighters. Avon sent me a blush and a bronzer. The blush Sweet Pea is a pinky-coral blush that is similar in colour to NARS Orgasm.  Golden Lily is a gold highlighter that will illuminate the cheek bones.  When I first opened the two products truthfully I thought they were both blushes since Golden Lily does look more copper in person, so much so that I thought it was a blush. I wouldn’t say it applies golden either, so much so that you could pass it off as a blush.

Avon fmg Colors of Love Cushion bronzer

The FMG Colors of Love Sunkissed Cushion Bronzer (C$55) contains the same silky formula that hydrates and plumps skin thanks to the hyaluronic acid in the cushion. It also contains antioxidant rosemary extracts to soothe skin.  This bronzer comes in two shades, Morning Sunflower and Evening Sunflower, and is a sheer-to-medium coverage that is buildable on the skin.

This bronzer comes in a similar packaging to the blushes and illuminators but the size of the product is about three times the size (bronzers are always so much larger than blushes for some reason). I think I actually like this bronzer more than the Fenty one since I find it’s more pigmented in colour and really leaves you with a beautiful colour that melts into the skin for a radiant glow.

Swatches of Avon fmg Colors of Love Cushion bronzer and blush

Overall I like how these products apply and feel on the skin. They are very lightweight to wear and melt into your skin nicely for a radiant glow that is perfect for summer. I really love how they have hyaluronic acid in the formula to help hydrate you while you wear them. Total win-win!
