I have a confession to make… I have barely worn deodorant since COVID started here in March.
Truthfully, since I don’t really go many places or see many people, I just don’t see the point of wearing it. There have been a few times when I could smell myself and definitely needed it, but for the most part, I go pretty natural on a daily basis.
Over the years, switching to natural deodorants has been on the rise. I have tried some natural deodorant brands in the past and found they just weren’t for me, but I know that lots of brands have come out with their own versions lately, and the ones that have been around for a while have been working on their formulas to make them better.
One of my favourite bath and body brands, L’Occitane has recently released their own natural deodorant. The Incredible Deodorant Recipe in Verbena (C$24) is a deodorant balm that doesn’t contain aluminum salts and is enriched with ingredients of natural origin.
This deodorant is a creamy texture that you apply with your fingers. It doesn’t block your pores like traditional antiperspirants and contains organic shea butter to moisturize and organic verbena extract to give it a refreshing scent. This deodorant also has tapioca and corn starch, which are powders that absorb sweat, oil, dirt, etc., as well as baking soda from natural origin to neutralize body odours.
I really love the idea of this deodorant and love that L’Occitane came out with their own natural version. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the fact that it’s a balm. I much prefer a stick format since it’s less messy and won’t get all over your hands. This deodorant smells wonderful and I love the ingredients they chose to include in the formula.
For those who are not concerned with having aluminum in their deodorant and are looking for a product to help with sweating, I also recently received Perspirex Comfort Extra-Efficient Antiperspirant Roll On (C$17.99).
Perspirex Comfort is a roll-on water-based product that helps to prevent sweating for two to three days. You apply this product at night to help with sweat reduction. This is ideal for people who experience heavy sweating. This product also has a comfortable feel and will not feel heavy and wet.
I like the idea of this product and have been applying it before bed. Keep in mind that antiperspirants traditionally block pores with aluminum, which I know some people are very against. I like the idea that you only need to apply this twice a week, however, it doesn’t help with odour, so you may need to apply a deodorant in the morning to help with any smell.
I am aware that these two products are very different from each other, however, I did want to give some options for everyone out there. As I said, I haven’t really been struck with natural deodorants in the past, but since I adore L’Occitane products, I truly believe their version will be a winner (as long as it doesn’t make me smell bad, I’m all for it!).

Two things I love: nude lipstick and lip balm. So, with that being said, imagine a beauty brand that releases a lip collection centred between those two things. Groundbreaking, right?!
Okay, jokes aside, when I got in Avon’s new neutral lipstick collection, which is made up of moisturizing lip crayons, I knew I would absolutely love them. The Avon Birthday Balm Lip Crayon (C$17) is a line of lip balms that are rich in texture and are available in six flattering nude colours to suit any skin tone.
The formula contains non-GMO shea butter to give you soft, supple lips. They are free of mineral oil, paraben, phthalate, and gluten, and feel silky smooth and hydrating on the lips. The product comes in a crayon format, which makes it super easy to apply on the go.
The brand sent me three of the six shades and it really was love at first sight when I saw these. Obviously my favourite is Birthday Suit since it’s a nude colour, but I surprisingly really liked the other two as well, especially Surprise!, which is a taupe nude. I found the colour to go on more on the sheer side, but it’s definitely very buildable which is nice. Since these are so moisturizing I find them easy to wear and it’s the kind of product that you can just toss in your bag and take it with you everywhere.
I love these and find them to be one of my new favourite Avon products. If you are looking for a new nude then I would take a look at these. The fact that they are also so hydrating is just the icing on the cake!

When it comes to drugstore skincare lines, Pixi Beauty is a good one to invest in.
The beauty brand, which hails from London, UK, has a whole arsenal of skincare and makeup items. You may have heard of their Glow Tonic, but aside from their famous toner, they have so many great items, including cleansers, serums, moisturizers, you name it!
I’ve chatted about a few of their skincare lines, as well as various beauty products, and they recently just sent me their new retinol collection to try out. I have been using retinol for years now, and although this is not medical-grade retinol, if you haven’t used retinol before or are scared to use it, then buying these drugstore versions are great stepping stones into trying it out.
Their Retinol & Jasmine collection is designed to renew and rejuvenate skin for a more refined complexion. The collection is comprised of six products, each one containing a small amount of retinol to help give you smooth and glowing skin.
Start first with the Retinol Jasmine Cleanser, which helps to clean skin from dirt, makeup, and oil. It contains retinol (vitamin A) to smooth, as well as anti-inflammatory jasmine oil and ceramide to help lock in moisture. This cleanser glides on the skin and removes all impurities for smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin.
Next, go in with their Retinol Tonic (C$20), which features time-release retinol to rejuvenate skin for a beauty, natural-looking glow. It also has antioxidants and botanicals to replenish skin for a more radiant appearance. This toner is also good for soothing sensitive skin. The formula contains elderflower to soften and brighten, as well as chamomile to calm and minimize redness.
Next, to treat the skin, use one of their oils. The Jasmine Oil Blend (C$34) is their daytime serum in this line, which obtains jasmine flower extract to rejuvenate and calm the skin, as well as evening primrose to help boost circulation. It also has grape seed oil to nourish the skin. This serum is designed to help skin recover from loss of moisture and dullness, it also helps with calming the skin from stress.
For the night time, use the Overnight Retinol Oil (C$34), which contains time-release retinol to smooth and refine skin while you sleep. It also has peptides to firm and revitalize the skin, as well as ceramide NP to lock in moisture. Over time, this serum will help restore skin plumpness and minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
To moisturize skin, the Retinol Jasmine Lotion is a lightweight moisturizer that works for both day and night and is designed to give you more youthful-looking skin. The moisturizer contains retinol to smooth skin, peptides to firm and revitalize, and jasmine oil to nourish and brighten the skin.
Finally, for the eyes, use the Retinol Eye Cream, which also contains time-release retinol to smooth and refine skin, caffeine to calm down any puffiness in the eye area, and peptides to firm the skin and minimize the look of fine lines.
I love the idea of this collection, but like I said in the beginning of this post, keep in mind that since this is a drugstore line, this doesn’t include the same amount of retinol that you would find in over-the-counter retinol products.
I would recommend these products for those in their 20s and then switch over to something a little more powerful as you get older. This is also a great line to dip your toes into the retinol game.
Overall, I think this would be of value to pick up if you are looking for a skincare line that is designed to give you smooth and bright skin.
