Start fresh: My top skincare picks for February
It’s been such a busy February you guys.
Remember how January felt like an eternity? Well I can’t believe that we are already halfway through the second month of the year! Ever since I landed in NYC it’s definitely been non-stop for me, and now that NYFW is over, I can finally let my body and skin recover.
Before I left Winnipeg earlier this month I was fully loaded with tons of new skincare products. I love trying out skincare since it seems like brands are really putting their focus into giving you new and innovative products that help address major skin concerns, as well as turn back the clock on aging.
If you are looking for some new all-stars to add to your collection, then keep reading..
Aveeno Repairing CICA Hand Mask and Foot Mask
Thankfully the air in New York isn’t dry, but back home in Winnipeg my skin would take a total beating because of the dryness (seriously though, the NY air is doing wonders for my nails and skin!).
To help combat the inevitable dry hands and feet, the new Aveeno Repairing CICA Hand Mask and Foot Masks helped to keep my limbs nice and smooth.
The Repairing CICA Hand Mask and Foot Mask is a glove that you wear on your hands and feet that helps restore essential moisture and balance to extra-dry skin, leaving your hands and feet smoother and softer. All you need to do is wash your hands and feet, slip it on for 10 minutes and then take it off.
Both the masks are enriched with shea butter and prebiotic oat, and is gentle enough for dry, sensitive skin. I love using these when the weather dips below -20C since the air is typically very dry, leaving my skin feeling sore and uncomfortable.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water
So you know how Bioderma is the OG micellar solution? As much as I love the Bioderma version, the price is a little steep. Thankfully if you are looking for a great alternative, then Garnier has got you boo.
Garnier’s SkinActive Micellar Water (C$8.97) is formulated with micelles that gently remove makeup and impurities from the skin. Just put this on a cotton pad or round to remove your makeup easily (including the waterproof kind as well!). This is an all-in-one cleanser that contains no oil, alcohol, or fragrance (making it great for those with eyelash extensions as well), and works for any skin type.
There are multiple versions of this product available, depending on your skin texture. I have the sensitive one (which is also the one I use in the Bioderma version) and find that it works miracles removing makeup and prepping my skin for the rest of my skincare routine.
PIXI Glow Tonic
Looking for a refreshing toner that is alcohol free? Then you’ll love the PIXI Glow Tonic.
This highly concentrated facial toner deeply cleans pores by removing excess oil and impurities.
The Pixi Glow Tonic (C$38 for 250 ml) is a highly concentrated, invigorating facial toner that deeply cleans pores by sweeping away excess oil and impurities. The formula is enriched with five per cent glycolic acid that gently wipes away impurities from your pores. It also has aloe vera to soothe and hydrate skin. You can use this both morning and night for a healthier and balanced complexion.
This is the toner that I brought out with me initially to New York in June and I still have about a quarter left in the container. I also want to note that I have the mini container out here, so it really does last forever (going on month four of using it day and night!). This is probably the most iconic product in the PIXI line up, so if you are interested in the brand, it would be a great intro product for you to try out.
Rodan + Fields Recharge Detox Mask
You guys know I love a good mask, so when I got in Rodan + Fields’ new Recharge Detox Mask, I couldn’t wait to crack it open and try it out.
This clay mask is fortified with charcoal to help draw impurities out of the skin, as well as environmental pollutants that have built up throughout the week. The formula contains mango seed butter, coconut oil, and avocado oil which provides intense moisture to the skin to help replenish it, as well as fatty acids to give you more softer skin. For a more radiant complexion, the volcanic sand in the mask helps to exfoliate skin, leaving you soft, smooth, and glowing!
I love using this mask at least once a week for a total skin refresh. I always feel so amazing after using a clay mask that this one has quickly become one of my favourites. You can order it through your R+F rep and it retails for C$71, which is a little hefty, but I swear you’ll love it!
St Tropez Self Tan Purity Water Gel and Facial Spray
I live by self tanner, so these next products are ones I’ve talked about before but I really do love them.
If you’re looking for a consistently good self tanner brand, then try St. Tropez. Although self-tanning mousses are my ride or die, I do really love their Self Tan Purity Water Gel (C$44) as well. This transparent gel-to-water formula not only gives you a beautiful glow, but it also hydrates skin for up to 72 hours.
I recommend applying this with a mitt since it helps it spread the product more evenly (plus will save your palms from the tell-tale tanner shade). Since it’s a gel, I do find that a little goes a long way and it spreads really nicely and evenly. The formula also has hyaluronic acid to help hydrate skin.
I like applying this at night since the tan develops when I sleep. For this product though, it actually starts to develop in just three hours, so it goes to work fast. My favourite thing about it is definitely the scent since it has a tropical scent.
For the face, I’ve been using their Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist (C$30). I’ve actually been using this for years now and instead of using my body tanner on my face I find this to be a much more efficient product to use. All you need to do is spray it on your face and the 100 per cent tanning agents go to work to leave you with a golden tan after a few hours.
Since it’s also part of the Purity line, it also has the pleasant tropical scent to it. The formula also has hibiscus extract in it, which is an antioxidant, as well as a green mandarin water for a refreshing feel.
I have a few more skincare goodies to chat about with you guys over the coming weeks, but if you are looking to switch up your skincare routine or add in a few extra goodies, then I definitely recommend you take a look into these products.
