So iconic: Fenty Beauty Icon Semi-Matte lipsticks

Fenty Beauty Icon Semi-Matte lipsticks If there is one makeup line that is consistently good in my eyes, it’s Fenty Beauty.

Okay, so there are a few things I didn’t love from the brand, but overall it’s been a huge hit for me.  One of their standout products are all their lip items and recently they have introduced a new lineup of lipsticks, the Icon Semi-Matte lipstick.

Icon is a line up of high-pigment lip colours that have a, you guessed it, semi-matte finish.  The shade range is a collection of 10 colours in reds and nudes, and the whole line is designed to be customizable since it’s a two-part product.

So these are actually sold as refillable bullets, which you put in the custom Icon case, sold separately or as a set.  The formula itself is very creamy and just glides on the lips, hugging the curves and providing you with long-lasting wear.

The case itself (sold separately for C$15) comes in either rose gold or black metallic casing, which you twist at the bottom to reveal the product.  Not gonna lie, this one took me a while and wasn’t the easiest thing to figure out, but once I got it, it was fine.  The colours themselves retail for C$25 a pop, so if you buy them as a set it comes to C$45, which truthfully doesn’t quite make sense since if you purchase the two products separately you actually save $5…

Nevertheless, when it comes to the lipstick itself I actually really liked it.  Fenty sent over two shades, MVP, which is a deep blue red, and Pose Queen, which is a neutral pink nude. I obviously threw Pose Queen into the case and it’s been my go-to lipstick for the last few weeks.  I think both shades are really pretty and I find them nice to wear. They glide on easily, are creamy in texture, and last a while on the lips.  The formula actually contains hyaluronic acid and vitamin C & E, which conditions the lips, so it’s a very comfortable wear on the lips.

I love the idea of these and also I adore the shade range.  I know the whole customizable, refillable thing is kinda weird, but at the same time, it helps with waste and I love that once you buy the case it makes the future shades you buy in this line cheaper.

If you are a fan of Fenty’s lip products already, I would definitely take a look into getting one of these as well!

Your best light: NARS Light Reflecting Foundation

Well it’s been awhile since I’ve talked about a new NARS product.

I love NARS but if I had to choose only one product to use from them, I do have to say that they kill it with their foundations.  NARS Sheer Glow is one of my favourite foundations ever but I also really love their Soft Matte Complete Foundation and the Natural Radiant Foundation as well.  Not sure what they are putting in their formulas but their foundations just make my skin look so flawless.

Anyways, they recently introduced a new foundation, which you may have seen all over your Instagram and TikTok, called the Light Reflecting Foundation (C$65), which they claim is a hybrid foundation/skincare combo.

The Light Reflecting Foundation, available in 36 shades, instantly blurs imperfections, smooths the look of textured skin, and helps to conceal blemishes, dark spots, and redness.  NARS says that with regular use, this foundation will visibly improve skin’s clarity after six weeks of use, even after you remove it.

Okay, so what’s in it that makes it so special? So glad you asked!  It contains a vegan formula, including biomimetic oat, which visibly improves skin clarity, Japanese lily turf to instantly strengthen the skin’s barrier and improve moisture, and cocoa peptides and milk thistle to help defend skin against environmental aggressors and blue light.

This foundation is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin and offers a medium, buildable coverage with a natural finish.

NARS sent me three shades to choose from and I was instantly struck with how glowy it makes my skin look.  It also has a similar feel to the Soft Matte foundation, in that once it’s on it does dry down nicely and stays put.  I feel like it’s a great everyday foundation and is mask friendly since I don’t feel like it will transfer at all.  The coverage is also breathable and lightweight and really does last all day on the skin.

So how does this foundation compare to their other lineup of amazing ones?  Well, this one is more skincare focused, so I would say it’s perfect for everyday wear.  I usually reserve Sheer Glow and Radiant for a night out.  I find that Soft Matte I can really wear any time of the day, so I would say this one would be closest to the latter.  Since skincare though is a major category right now in the beauty community and everyone seems to be upping their routine, then this fits nicely into that box since you can wear it whatever the occasion and know you are also protecting and hydrating your skin.

It is on the pricey side but it’s also NARS and as I mentioned earlier, I think their foundations are 100 per cent worth the cost.  If you are also a fan of their other formulas then I would take a look into picking up a shade of the new Light Reflecting foundation as well.

Fresh + clean: Three products to try from Boscia this winter

One beauty brand I have been curious about has been Boscia.

I’ve gotten a few items from the line over the years and I feel like they always come at a time when I’m using other things so I haven’t really gotten a full feel for the brand (other than their peel-off masks, those are amazing).

Boscia is a clean beauty brand that you can find at Sephora. Its products are made from ingredients that are rooted in nature and it contains a vegan formula that is also cruelty free and preservative free as well.

Recently they sent me some skincare staples to try out and I was over the moon to receive them since they are all items that I can see myself incorporating into my daily routine. From a new serum, a new mist, to a moisturizer, here are the items you need to try from Boscia.

Boscia Chia Seed Moisture Cream

Chia Seed Moisture Cream

If you have dry skin (who doesn’t right now?), then take a look at the Chia Seed Moisture Cream (C$50), which is a moisturizer that is aimed to restore and repair, as well as add hydration to dry skin. This cream is enriched with phytonutrients and omega fatty acids that come from chia seed oil and Swiss glacier water.

The chia seed is great for adding hydration into skin by reducing trans-epidermal water look and preventing moisture loss. It also helps with future dehydration and is very soothing. The glacier water penetrates into skin resulting in a deep and longer-lasting hydration. It also helps keep skin smooth and comfortable all day long.

You can use this cream morning and night. It comes with a spatula to keep everything nice and clean. I would recommend picking this up if you are experiencing the drying effects of winter weather right now or if you suffer from dry skin regularly.

Boscia Rosewater Mist with Witch Hazel

Rosewater Mist with Witch Hazel

This is the product I’m most excited about since I’m a sucker for facial sprays.

The Rosewater Mist with Witch Hazel (C$32) is a refreshing and alcohol-free hydrating toner mist that you can use either as a toner or for on-the-go freshness.

Spray it on for a dewy and healthy-looking complexion. It also helps with absorbing excess oil, tightens pores, and soothes skin for a glowing and radiant complexion.

As the name suggests, the formula contains rosewater which works to hydrate, revitalize and moisturize skin. It also helps to maintain skin’s natural pH balance and cleanses and tightens pores. The witch hazel cleanses and tones skin without stripping it of natural moisture. It also helps to combat excess oil while sealing in moisture. If you suffer from redness or irritation, this will also help with that as well. Finally, the formula also has aloe vera in it, which moisturizes skin and soothes and calms redness, inflammation, and irritation. This is a great spray to have on you for basically any situation but it will come in handy for summer as well for those days where you get too much sun.

Boscia Vitamin B12 Hydration Booster Serum

Vitamin B12 Hydration Booster Serum

Finally, if you are looking for a great serum then take a look at the Vitamin B12 Hydration Booster Serum (C$60). This serum deeply nourishes, hydrates, and rejuvenates skin thanks to its unique formula. It has a 70 per cent oil to 30 per cent water formula that repairs skin and replenishes moisture.

Make sure you shake this before applying it to combine the oil and water and use morning and evening for the best effects. The formula has Vitamin B12 in it, which promotes skin’s health and aids in boosting circulation for glowing skin. It also has squalene, which replenishes moisture and reduces skin inflammation and helps to protect against free radicals and premature aging. It also has apricot kernel, sweet almond, and jojoba seed oil to give long-lasting hydration and retain moisture.

These are just three products in their arsenal of items. Definitely take a look at their offerings next time you’re in The Bay. I look forward to using these goodies as we finish up the winter months and head into the more warmer ones.

What’s your favourite Boscia product?
