Feeling electric: Urban Decay Wired palette

The first time I ever saw Urban Decay’s Wired palette was this past December when I visited a PR firm in New York City.

It was actually the first time I had ever been in a PR office, and I can tell you, it was as cool as you think it would be.  The entire parameter of the office had bookcases and on each bookcase were endless amount of beauty products that were sectioned off by brands. After my meeting I got to go around and basically pick out whatever I wanted. You guys, I felt like a kid in a candy store. It was like going into Sephora and basically taking whatever you wanted.

Anyways, in the beauty closet the girl opened a box and brought out the Urban Decay Wired palette, which she then told me something along the lines of “here’s a preview of Urban Decay’s next palette but don’t tell anyone yet since it’s not released”. I mean those words aren’t verbatim, but it was something along those lines…

Anyways, fast forward a few months and I receive Urban Decay’s Wired palette in the mail. This palette is a rework of their original Electric palette and part of their Wired collection, which features this palette, double-ended liner & top coats, a collection of 24/7 Glided Eye Pencils, and five bright shades of their Vice Lip Chemistry.

The Wired palette (C$59) is not for the faint of heart and features 10 high-pigmented shades in a variety of bright colours. This palette has pressed pigments and is divided into two sections, one for face, body, and eye, and the other for just face and body.  There’s a range of blues, pinks, purples, and oranges, as well as a white, and is a super fun palette to play around with.

Now if you are a neutral-loving girl, you will not get any wear out of this, however, if you like adding a pop of colour (no pun intended) into your looks, then you’ll love this.  I have a few of these bright-coloured palettes, and although they don’t get a ton of use since the colours are so unique and more appropriate for special occasions, these are fun to pull out every once in a while.

I’ve played around with a few of these shades and found them to be pretty pigmented as just shadows. If you want to mute the colours a little bit, you can layer them over the white shade, Glitch.

Urban Decay Wired palette swatched As for the face and body shades, these do contain an ingredient that isn’t safe for the eyes in the U.S., so they are sectioned off in the palette so you don’t mix them up with the ones that you can use on the eyes.  Unless you work in special FX or are planning on attending a music festival (which are all cancelled or postponed right now anyways), you probably won’t be using these shades too much on the face and body, however, the pink (Savage) and coral (Slowburn) and orange (Switch) could be suitable as a blush as well (just go in with a lighter hand).

Overall, this palette may not get a ton of use in your collection, however, I think it’s super fun for summer time and also a unique palette that would be entertaining to pull out for special occasions (Halloween, Pride festival, music festivals, etc.).

I’ll be uploading an IGTV later today featuring a really fun look I did with the blue tones in here and actually really loved how it turned out. Although I tend to gravitate towards neutrals, I do love applying a blue liner every once in a while for a fun, bright look.

Will you be picking up Urban Decay’s new Wired palette?

Skin-hugging colour: Avon Cashmere Complexion foundation & concealer

First time I ever opened Avon’s new Cashmere Complexion foundation (C$35), the applicator looked a little familiar.

The new foundation, which is available in a staggering 30 shades, features a big doe foot applicator — similar to Tarte’s original Shape Tape Foundation — to apply the product directly to the skin. This foundation is designed to give you cashmere-soft skin (hence the name) in a soft-focus matte finish. The vegan formula delivers comfortable wear with up to 24 hours of coverage.

Avon Cashmere Complexion Foundation and Concealer

The brand sent me the lightest shade (Cannoli) but looking at the press pack, I was very excited to see the wide shade range in here.  They really did come out with a shade for most skin tones out there, so finding a colour that will suit your skin is super simple. Although I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup lately, the times I did wear the foundation I did notice how nice my skin looked as it visibly blurs out pores and fine lines.  The formula actually contains antioxidant botanical extracts, which will nourish your skin as you wear it.

I would bill this foundation as a good daytime one as it gives me just enough coverage to provide a nice base for the rest of my products.  I like something a little more thicker for nighttime, but overall, I was happy with how this made my skin look and feel. It’s very comfortable and definitely does not feel like you’re even wearing any makeup.

Pair their new foundation with the Cashmere Complexion Long-Wear Concealer (C$25), which is available in 12 shades and is also billed to provide 24 hours of wear.

They sent me the concealer in the shade Mochi, which is the second lightest of the bunch. This concealer also features a doe-foot applicator, which is my favourite method of applying concealer in general.  It gives you a nice coverage and pairs really beautifully and flawlessly with the foundation.

The concealer is also lightweight and corrects dark circles and imperfections on the skin.  It also leaves your skin with a soft-focus matte finish with antioxidant botanical extracts, nourishing every area you apply it to. The concealer is vegan just like the foundation.

Overall I actually really liked these face products by Avon and found them easy and comfortable to wear. Once we start heading back to the office, I think these will be my new weekday daytime face products since they give me just the right amount of coverage while still look natural, and are very comfortable on the skin.

Have you tried out Avon’s new Cashmere Complexion collection?

Smells like spring: Four perfumes to try this season

Ah spring time… The snow has melted, the weather gets warmer, and everyone’s green thumb gets some exercise.

Although spring for us in 2020 right now includes staying at home and garden shops closed with only curb-side or delivery, I personally am excited to get back into the swing of things and plant some flowers and herbs (although I’m still waiting for the weather to get a little bit warmer first).

Perfumes for spring 2020 from Atelier Cologne, YSL, Avon, and Charlotte Tilbury

With spring come many new scents, and although I don’t have anywhere to actually wear them, I have been spraying on perfume everyday.  Total TMI, but although I haven’t really been wearing deodorant (I just don’t see a point when I live alone with my dog and he doesn’t care), but I will spray something on me, whether it’s a body spray or a perfume.

I’ve been checking the news everyday and have been keeping a journal during this challenging time, and with the numbers starting to plank, I’m hoping that we can start reopening the economy once again, and with that, visiting salons, dressing up, going for out dinner, and spraying my favourite perfumes to wear outside the house.

So if you are looking forward to that day like I am (really though, who isn’t?) and want to cheer yourself up with a new perfume for when that day actually comes, then keep reading…

Avon Peony Rose perfume

Avon Flourish Peony Rose

Perfect for Mother’s Day in addition to the start of spring, Avon’s Flourish Peony Rose eau de parfum (C$35, on sale for C$22) would make the perfect give for mom or whoever you gift it to.

This brand-new perfume from the brand is a mix of beautiful florals and musk.  The scent is sweet and feminine and contains notes of watery florals, including dewy peony petals, pink currant, and sheer musk. It’s a very light scent that can easily be worn everyday and would pair nicely with a bouquet of flowers given on mom’s special day.

I actually really like this scent and have been wearing it often since it’s such an easy perfume to wear.  Also, at that price point, it’s not breaking the bank, so it would be a nice item to include in a gift basket for mom.

YSL Mon Paris Intensement perfume

YSL Mon Paris Intensement Eau de Parfum

A trip to Paris may be put on hold for the moment, but transport yourself there mentally with YSL Beaute’s new perfume.

YSL Mon Paris Intensement Eau de Parfum (C$128 for 47 ml) is the newest fragrance in the legendary brand’s YSL Mon Paris fragrance collection. This perfume is a daring new take on the classic YSL Mon Paris and is sweet, floral, and musky.

This opens up with black currant, rose, and white musk to present a sensual scent that is perfect for a date night or a girl’s night out.  It’s a very bold scent, but still sweet enough to give it a more feminine touch.

The perfume is inspired by the Eiffel Tower at dusk and is housed in a beautiful fuchsia bottle with a bow at the nape at the bottleneck complete with a YSL logo charm holding it together. The colour fuchsia and the double lavaliere bow was actually inspired by the latest designs of Saint Laurent couture, making this perfume perfect for just about any fashionista.

Atelier Cologne Clementine California perfume

Atelier Cologne Clementine California Cologne Absolue

From Paris to California… Take a trip to the west coast with Atelier Cologne’s newest scent.

Clementine California Cologne Absolue (C$185/100 ml) is a citrusy scent inspired by clementines from California, juniper berries from Turkey, and vetiver from Haiti.  This scent, which is for both men and women, is the perfect spring and summer scent since it’s so fresh and literally smells like a fruit market in Tuscany (I’ve never been, but I can only imagine what it would smell like, and I think this would be it).

Other star ingredients in this perfume include star anise from China, sichuan pepper from China, basil from Egypt, mandarin from Italy, sandalwood from New Caledonia, and cypress from France. This is a pure perfume and include 15 per cent concentration and 92 per cent of ingredients from natural origin.

This is actually my first Atelier Cologne scent and I was very excited to get it since although they bill it as a California scent, it actually reminds me of New York. Atelier Cologne has ateliers (storefronts) in many major cities around the world, including a couple in New York City, so this one truly has a special place in my heart as I would often pass one of their stores while out and about.

Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream

Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream

I actually didn’t know Charlotte Tilbury even had a perfume until the brand sent it my way earlier this year.

Charlotte Tilbury’s Scent of a Dream (C$168/100 ml) is described as a floral citrus perfume that features top notes of lemon, peach, and black pepper; middle notes of jasmine, frankincense, tuberose, and violet; and base notes of fire tree, iso E super, patchouli, and ambroxan.

The bottle and the smell itself greatly remind me of something my grandmother would have on her vanity. The scent is sweet, mature, and musky. It also smells expensive, as every time I give it a whiff I’m reminded of an expensive department store.

I would definitely say that this is more of a nighttime scent since it’s a little heavier, however, I would say that it is a timeless scent as you’ll be able to wear it for pretty much any season.

I probably have like at least 30 perfumes in my collection at this point, but I find that when it comes to fragrance, you really can never have enough. There is a scent for every season, every occasion, and every memory, so I love trying out new ones to remember some life moments by.

What perfume are your wearing this season?
