Holiday helpers: Holiday sets from Bite Beauty

Well friends, the time has come… Let’s talk holidays!

It’s my favourite time of the year since I love seeing what all the brands are releasing for the festive season.  This time of the year is the best time to stock up since you can usually score some amazing sets that retail for the same price, or slightly higher, than it would cost for just one item. Yes, this year is different than most cause of the whole COVID situation, but it’s a great time to stock up on some essentials.

Now the one item I have to have on hand with me is a lip balm. I carry one with me everywhere I go and usually have one at my work station, in every handbag, in my bathroom… seriously you’ll never know when you’re going to have dry lips.

Bite Beauty, a clean beauty company based in Canada, has some amazing options this season for keeping your lips nice and hydrated and would make great stocking stuffers or great items to gift if you are looking for something more affordable but still want to make an impression.

Bite Beauty holiday 2020 stocking stuffers Bite Beauty Agave +Lip Tint Tin

First up are their Agave+ Lip Tint Tins (C$18 each), which is an agave lip balm housed in a festive tin that is small and compact enough that it can go everywhere with you. Available in five shades, these are a vegan lanolin-free lip balm that nourishes lips while giving them a slight tint.  There’s Highball, a warm cocoa pearl; Smashed, a sheer pink red; Buzzed, a champagne gold pearl; Bramble, a sheer deep berry; and Swizzle, a pink peach pearl.

If you want to really make an impression, gift the Starlit Succulents Three-Piece Agave+ Lip Care Set (C$30). This three piece set is perfect for those who suffer from really dry or flaky lips. There are three minis in here, including the Agave+ Weekly Lip Scrub to exfoliate and smooth, the Agave+ Intensive Lip Mask to help lips recover from dryness or peeling, and the Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy, which is amazing to slather on before bed.

These products include agave nectar to soothe and nurture lips, mangosteen extract for antioxidant power and moisture, as well as fair-trade golden sugar, which exfoliates lips and melts onto the skin, so it’s nice and gentle to apply.

Finally, for those who like a little colour, the Midnight Mood Mini Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayon Trio (C$32) is perfect to gift for those on the hunt for some great festive lipsticks.

This set includes three minis of the brand’s Power Move Lip Crayons. There is Negroni, a candy apple red and also one of the brand’s best-selling shades, Sazerac, a neutral pink-nude, and Anejo, a medium pink-brown.  Both Sazerac and Anejo are exclusive to this set.

In case you haven’t tried these matte lip crayons, they are powered by superfoods, including pomegranate extract, wild African mango butter to nourish lips, and orange peel wax to seal in hydration.

Bite Beauty Midnight Mood holiday set There are a few more sets that Bite Beauty offers, but I really love these since they are quite small and give you a deluxe sizes of some of their most popular products.  It allows anyone you gift this to to try out the formula and brand to see if they like them.  Everything also comes housed in a fun, festive box, so it makes gift giving super easy.

Bright & nourished: Pixi Beauty +C Vit skincare line

Skin looking a little dull? Then Pixi has just the thing for you!

Pixi Beauty, in addition to having wonderful makeup items at a fabulous price point, is known for their skincare as well (especially their famous Glow Tonic).  I’ve tried out a variety of different lines by them and have found them all to work wonders for my skin.

New this season is the brand’s +C Vit Colortreats Collection. This collection is infused with Vitamin C, which will give your skin antioxidant and brightening properties. These are a mix between makeup and skincare and contain five products in the line.

Pixi +C Vit skincare line Pixi +C Vit Priming Oil

Pixi sent me a PR box with four of the five items and I couldn’t wait to smother my face in them. Up first is the +C Vit Priming Oil ($28 USD), which is perfect to prep your face before the rest of your routine. This oil hydrates, calms, and plumps for all-day wear.  It’s very lightweight on the skin and is perfect to use as the last step in your skincare routine or right before your moisturizer. Included in the formula is turmeric for its antioxidant protection, carrot oil to replenish and hydrate, as well as Vitamin C to brighten.

Next up is the +C Vit Brightening Protector ($18 USD), which is perfect to wear by itself or under makeup.  This product blurs skin and pores and gives you a dewy and radiant finish.

This cream product works to enhance skin, correct tone, blur out imperfections, and brightens for a radiant glow. The brand says that you don’t need to add foundation on top to have flawless-looking skin, which means this is great for everyday wear.

Pixi +C Vit Undereye Brightener and Brightening Perfector

To wake up the under eyes, the +C Vit UnderEye Brightener ($16 USD) will be your new best friend.  This under eye protector blurs and wakes up the delicate eye area thanks to its refreshing formula.

This under eye cream includes illuminating pigments and licorice to wakeup the eye area.  In addition, it also soothes skin, erases dullness, and is a great primer for concealer. The formula also contains caffeine for a jolt of energy and Ferulic acid for some added antioxidants.

Finally, for the lips the +C Vit Lip Brightener (C$10) is a Vitamin C-infused lip balm that smooths lips and gives you a tint with some shine. This balm contains a Vitamin C core that is designed to treat lips with moisture while adding a hint of shine.  This lip balm feels pleasant on the lips and has a weightless texture, meaning it’s great to always have around for some quick touch ups.

There is also a glow powder in this line up as well which sounds amazing and is designed to make your skin stand out.

Incorporating Vitamin C into your skincare or beauty routine is a must and these items make it so easy to do so.  With cold and dry weather upon us, I’ve been doing everything I can to make sure my skin is nice and nourished, so these have been a real treat to incorporate into my routine.

The big O: NARS Extreme Climax mascara and Extreme Effects eyeshadow palette

Even though I have literally nowhere to go (aside from walking Ziggy and grocery shopping), it still is pretty exciting when I get in a new eyeshadow palette.

I have a bunch of NARS eyeshadow palettes and love the formulation and shade range they choose in their palettes.  For the most part, I find them to be incredibly wearable in terms of the colours in them, and the pigmentation is amazing (even with the glitters and shimmers, which are typically hit or miss).

New for fall is their Extreme Effects Eyeshadow Palette (C$74), which came out this past September and is a limited-edition 12 shadow palette featuring matte and shimmer formulas.

This palette is relatively neutral, making it perfect for everyday wear and the shadows themselves feature a latex-like finish, meaning it’s super creamy and holds onto the lids once applied.

I found this shadow palette to work really well, and like I said, the shade range in this is amazing. You can create so many different looks, from plain ol’ everyday wear to something more dramatic.  As someone who wears a lot of neutrals, this one will definitely come in handy in my makeup collection.

The formulation was also a dream to work with since I found a little went a long way with this and they blended out like a dream. Based on the other palettes I have tried from NARS, I had high hopes for the shimmers and they also performed really well. You know when the colour looks amazing in the palette but then barely even registers on the brush? You don’t get that with this palette. What you see is what you get.

I paired the new palette with their newest mascara, the Climax Extreme Mascara (C$32) which is their follow up to the Climax mascara, which was released a couple years ago. The casing on this mascara is the same but this time it’s housed in all black and the brand says that this offers their most dramatic volume yet.

The formula includes a loaded pigment complex, which means blacker-than-black colour payoff, and is paired with a large ribbed-bristle brush which gives off mega volume. It also has conditioning oils in it to soften lashes.

I was really excited to try this mascara out since I have the original Climax mascara and really liked it. NARS isn’t really known for their mascaras and they don’t have a lot of them in their range, so I like how they are putting more focus into this category.

Now I will say that this is a very wet formula, in fact it got all over my eye area.  I like to think it’s because this is brand new and often when the mascara is new it doesn’t work as well on me.  I like a thicker formula and find that over time, as I use the mascara often, it hardens up and lets me actually experience the benefits that they boost.

I made the mistake of applying this before my concealer and then when I went to blend in my concealer, the mascara got all over the eye area.  Totally annoying but I will continue to give it a shot as I think that over time it will work a little better.

Overall though, I will say my lashes looked nice. Is it better than the original Climax? I found the results to be similar, but I will say that this one does make your lashes appear darker.

If you are looking for a new eyeshadow palette and love everyday neutral shades, then I can’t recommend that palette enough. It’s a little on the steep side, but you get 12 wearable colours, all of which I think would get some action since they are pretty universal shades.

As for the mascara, I have tried better ones out there, but if you are looking for a deep black formula, then I think you’ll like what this has to offer.

Have you tried any of these new NARS products?
