The big O: NARS Extreme Climax mascara and Extreme Effects eyeshadow palette

Even though I have literally nowhere to go (aside from walking Ziggy and grocery shopping), it still is pretty exciting when I get in a new eyeshadow palette.

I have a bunch of NARS eyeshadow palettes and love the formulation and shade range they choose in their palettes.  For the most part, I find them to be incredibly wearable in terms of the colours in them, and the pigmentation is amazing (even with the glitters and shimmers, which are typically hit or miss).

New for fall is their Extreme Effects Eyeshadow Palette (C$74), which came out this past September and is a limited-edition 12 shadow palette featuring matte and shimmer formulas.

This palette is relatively neutral, making it perfect for everyday wear and the shadows themselves feature a latex-like finish, meaning it’s super creamy and holds onto the lids once applied.

I found this shadow palette to work really well, and like I said, the shade range in this is amazing. You can create so many different looks, from plain ol’ everyday wear to something more dramatic.  As someone who wears a lot of neutrals, this one will definitely come in handy in my makeup collection.

The formulation was also a dream to work with since I found a little went a long way with this and they blended out like a dream. Based on the other palettes I have tried from NARS, I had high hopes for the shimmers and they also performed really well. You know when the colour looks amazing in the palette but then barely even registers on the brush? You don’t get that with this palette. What you see is what you get.

I paired the new palette with their newest mascara, the Climax Extreme Mascara (C$32) which is their follow up to the Climax mascara, which was released a couple years ago. The casing on this mascara is the same but this time it’s housed in all black and the brand says that this offers their most dramatic volume yet.

The formula includes a loaded pigment complex, which means blacker-than-black colour payoff, and is paired with a large ribbed-bristle brush which gives off mega volume. It also has conditioning oils in it to soften lashes.

I was really excited to try this mascara out since I have the original Climax mascara and really liked it. NARS isn’t really known for their mascaras and they don’t have a lot of them in their range, so I like how they are putting more focus into this category.

Now I will say that this is a very wet formula, in fact it got all over my eye area.  I like to think it’s because this is brand new and often when the mascara is new it doesn’t work as well on me.  I like a thicker formula and find that over time, as I use the mascara often, it hardens up and lets me actually experience the benefits that they boost.

I made the mistake of applying this before my concealer and then when I went to blend in my concealer, the mascara got all over the eye area.  Totally annoying but I will continue to give it a shot as I think that over time it will work a little better.

Overall though, I will say my lashes looked nice. Is it better than the original Climax? I found the results to be similar, but I will say that this one does make your lashes appear darker.

If you are looking for a new eyeshadow palette and love everyday neutral shades, then I can’t recommend that palette enough. It’s a little on the steep side, but you get 12 wearable colours, all of which I think would get some action since they are pretty universal shades.

As for the mascara, I have tried better ones out there, but if you are looking for a deep black formula, then I think you’ll like what this has to offer.

Have you tried any of these new NARS products?
