When one thinks of mascara, a number of products come to mind. One at the forefront? Christian Dior’s iconic mascara, DiorShow. Story has it that former Christian Dior creative director John Galliano (before his anti-semitic tirade that got him fired from the house) wanted his models to walk the runway with chunky eyelashes. His solution? Taking a toothbrush and dipping it in black liquid. It seemed to work because he got his team to replicate the idea in a mascara. And thus, a legend was born.
I picked up this mascara a few months ago with the DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum and Primer, both of which are sample sizes. When I was mascara shopping it was between this one and YSL’s Faux Cils, I decided to go with Faux Cils and get a mini of this, and although it’s a good mascara, I prefer YSL’s better.
The brush of the product is huge, it reminded me greatly of Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash, a mascara I used to use religiously before I got eyelash extensions. By having a big brush, the product really settles on the lashes and also makes curling lashes much easier.
No mascara
I tested this product out with one eye having curled lashes and the other just normal. I ended up applying three coats of the mascara.
One coat. Eyelashes on the left were curled using an eyelash curler.
Two Coats. Eyelashes on the left were curled using an eyelash curler.
Three coats. Eyelashes on the left were curled using an eyelash curler.
As you can see, this mascara works wonders even without an eyelash curler. The product left my lashes wonderfully curled, very black, and thick looking. I can see why there is so much hype behind the product.
Is it cult worthy? Maybe at the time it launched. It does do a great job at lengthening and curling, but there are so many fabulous mascaras out there nowadays that this just seems like the standard. Since releasing the original DiorShow (the one I tried), Dior has released many other takes on their best-selling beauty product including Blackout, Iconic, and the newest mascara under the DiorShow umbrella, New Look. I know for a fact that New Look has a completely different brush which I think defeats the purpose of the product. It’s the brush that gives you that “DiorShow” look. I think the brand is just capitalizing on the name of the product and the religious following it has. Am I glad that I went with YSL over Dior? Yes, although, Dior still makes a nice mascara, I just preferred YSL’s better.

Happy Monday! I haven’t done a tag in a while and when I saw Amarixe did this one on YouTube I totally had to do it too! I absolutely love nail polish and a nail polish collection post is totally on my to-do list I just haven’t gotten around to one yet. 1. What’s your favorite nail polish company?
This one is tough because it honestly depends on the season. I think the brand that comes out with the nicest shades is SpaRitual and Deborah Lippmann, however, OPI makes some awesome collections as well (they are basically like the MAC for nail polish even though MAC makes nail polish as well, but I’m talking collection wise). Essie makes nice pastel colours too.
2. Glitter or no glitter?
Depends on the season. Glitter is great for the holiday season and summer, I tend to go with no glitter during fall and spring.
3. OPI, China Glaze, or Essie?
I would have to say OPI for this one and that’s only because they come out with a nice range of different colours ranging from neons to mattes to glitters. I love Essie but they tend to release more pastel shades whereas China Glaze, who makes awesome neon, bright shades, I find tends to chip really easily.
4. When do you change your nail polish?
I’ll usually change my nail polish every three to four days. I’m okay with minor chipping but when a big sliver of polish peels off I’ll bust out my nail polish remover and change colours.
5. What’s your favorite colour on your nails?
This one is easy! It’s actually the colour I have on right now which OPI’s Mod About You. It’s the perfect baby pink colour that is so pale that it makes your hands look tan. It’s amazing, if you don’t have it pick it up!
6. Darks or Brights?
Again, depends on the season. Brights for spring and summer and darks for fall and winter. If I had to choose just one though I would probably go with brights.

8. Matte Nails–In or Out?
Out! I love the look of shiny nails. When I think of matte nails I think of the neon colours from China Glaze where even though they are super bright and beautiful they dry quite matte which is so disappointing.
9. French Manicure?
I love myself a nice French manicure, it’s so classy and makes your nails look so clean. I wouldn’t go through life with a French manicure always on my nails but I think every once in a while is really nice and classic.

It’s Friday! In honour of the weekend I thought I would do an easy tutorial using Maybelline’s new 24-hour Color Tattoo in the colour Tough as Taupe. The only colours you need for this look is Tough as Taupe and Darkhorse and Virgin from the Urban Decay Naked Palette.
Let’s get started.
Starting off with a fresh face apply the colour Tough as Taupe from Maybelline all over the lids. I didn’t use a primer for this look because I feel that the Color Tattoos are primer enough, so therefore an additional product isn’t really needed.
Next, using the colour Darkhorse from the Urban Decay Naked palette, apply the colour to your crease and blend the two shades together.
Using a small brush, apply Darkhorse along your lower lash line.
Taking the colour Virgin, also from the Naked palette, apply this to the inside corners of your eyes, as well as on your brow bone.
Using a liquid or gel eyeliner (I used Sephora’s Waterproof Smoky Creme Liner in the colour Must Have), line your upper lash line. Wing out the line if you like.
Curl your lashes, apply some mascara (I used DiorShow) and you are done! If you want you can choose to apply some false lashes to take this look from day to night!
Eyelashes: Lash In City by Velour lashes
I absolutely love this look and I have worn for both day and night. The beauty of this is that not a lot of products were used but you get a gorgeous outcome.
