The Cult Collection: OPI You Don’t Know Jacques!

Hi all! I haven’t done a Cult Collection post in a while so I thought I would do a quick one.  This time it’s on OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques, which first came out with their French collection in fall of 2008.

The colour of this shade is very neutral, it’s a taupy-grey colour with undertones of purple in it.  The shade is perfect for fall and suitable for really any occasion.  It can be worn at night, at the office, school, beach, etc.  It’s just a perfect neutral colour.

So what makes it so popular?  Well, it’s a universally-flattering shade.  It can be worn year round and it’s just a great neutral colour.  OPI has a few “culty” shades, the first one that comes to mind is Lincoln Park After Dark, and another is You Don’t Know Jacques.  There is something to be said about neutral colours that transcend well to nail polish wearers.  They are shades that you don’t get sick of, flatter every outfit, and are suitable for every season and occasion.  The polish also won InStyle magazine’s best dark nail polish in 2010 in their Best Beauty Buys awards. So is it cult-worthy?  I would say so.  I’m sure there are tons of dupes out there, but why not just get the original?  For a mere $9.99 a bottle CDN, splurge a little and buy the shade that got everyone talking.  I think it should be a staple in everyone’s nail polish collection.  Definitely worth the hype.

Let me know if you own or have tried You Don’t Know Jacques.  What were your thoughts? Cult-worthy or over-hyped?  Leave me a comment below!
