Wonderful wink: Ardell Beauty TexturEyes Lashes

Ardell Beauty TexturEyes lashes

I love a good lash moment.

Although I haven’t really worn falsies that much in the past year and a half, when I do put them on, it’s quite a mood booster.

There is nothing like having fluffy stand-out lashes and since I rock my own natural lashes, the best way to get this effect is with falsies.  I have a few favourite false lash brands and Ardell definitely ranks high on the list. From the wide range of styles to the reasonable price point (hello drugstore beauty!), Ardell is always a great option for falsies.

The brand has released a few new styles and innovations this year and newest to the team are the TextureEyes lashes (C$13). These lashes feature tousled texture and natural hair, and are designed to mimic your own lashes.  The name itself stems from the fact that the lashes are imperfect, just like your own, in that some are longer, some are shorter, etc.  So you have a variety of different lengths on the natural band to blend in seamlessly with your own lashes and appear natural on the eyes.

There are six styles to choose from and they range from more natural lengths to ones that are more dramatic.  Perhaps the most distinguishing factor with these lashes are the fact that they are 100 per cent natural human hair, which is kind of weird (like where did they get the hair from?) but make for a natural look.

I find for myself particularly I am very picky with my lashes (whether that be texture or length), so these really hit the nail on the head and are something that I can see myself gravitating towards as I wear false lashes over the coming months.

To the rescue: Tula Lip SOS Lip Treatment Balm

It has honestly never occurred to me that Tula didn’t have a lip product in their collection.

There were some notable holes in their skincare array and for the most part I would say that they have filled them over the past few years (for me it was sunscreen and facial sprays).  For a girl that can’t live without a lip balm, it really should have dawned on me that this simple item wasn’t something that Tula offered… until now.

Officially launched as of September 8, the Lip SOS Lip Treatment Balm ($22 USD) is a tinted lip balm that improves lip smoothness, nourishes and hydrates, plumps and smoothes, and provides a glossy tint.  It is available in three shades, Strawberry Flush, Blushing Lemonade, and Blackberry Velvet, with each shade smelling like their title and providing a very subtle hint of colour.

These balms contain the brand’s S6Pro Complex, which is proprietary super six blend of prebiotics and probiotic extracts to help improve skin smoothness.  It also has peptides to plump and smooth lips, as well as fruit oils and fruit extracts to nourish and soften. Finally, it also includes hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E to hydrate and provide antioxidant protection.

The balms come in a squeeze tube with an angled applicator, making it easy and mess-free to apply. They are very comfortable to wear, smell amazing, and are soft and long-lasting on the lips. Although they are tinted, I find all three to be very light in colour, so even if it looks dark (like Blackberry Velvet), it won’t appear that way on the lips.

Tula offers these up separately or as a set for $56 USD where you get all three (and you save $10 too with the set).  It looks like these are just available on the Tula site for now but hopefully for us Canadians they will stock it at Sephora. It you are a Tula fan, then I recommend picking these up, and I mean really who doesn’t need a lip balm? I literally have one in every bag and in every room of my house.

Don’t forget, use code SHAYNA for 15% off your Tula.com order!

Big & bold: Rimmel Wonder’Extension Mascara

Rimmel Wonder'Extension Mascara

I’ve always appreciated Rimmel London’s mascaras.

It’s been a while since I’ve used a Rimmel mascara, but I’ve had my fair share of using their various ScandalEyes versions and for the most part I’ve really enjoyed them.

Rimmel Wonder'Extension Mascara

When I was away in Montreal Rimmel sent over a package of summer goodies, including their new Wonder’Extension mascara (C$8.98), which launched in May 2021.  This mascara has a full stretch patented formula that gives you a lengthened, volumized and lifted last effect.

The brush has a slight hourglass figure to it, enabling you to coat every lash from root to tip.  It also helps to grab onto the lashes and extensions them as it lengthens.

The formula is unique in that it has a stretchy texture that extends and adds to lashes.  It’s also clump free, long lasting, smudge-proof, flake-proof and easy to remove.  The formula is really different and they weren’t lying when they say it stretches since I found it to hand off the brush.  It’s more of a gooey texture, but I find it helps with grabbing onto the lashes and make them look longer and more defined.

Overall I wouldn’t say that this mascara is any better than other drugstore mascaras I’ve tried.  It did the trick but I would say it’s on par with the other Rimmel mascaras I’ve used in the past.  The texture of the formula was very unique and I found it did a good job of grabbing onto the lashes and making them stand out.
