Matte-ly in love: Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour

Just when I thought I’ve tried every brand’s matte lipstick range, another one rolls out.

Brand new for fall drugstore beauty brand Rimmel London has released a 14-colour matte liquid lipstick collection called Stay Matte. These liquid lipsticks promise to deliver high-intensity colour with a velvety matte finish that is comfortable and non-drying on the lips. Each shade delivers bold colour with just one stroke and stay on the lips for hours, no matter what you’re doing (kissing, eating, drinking, etc.).

I received every colour in the collection and was pleasantly surprised by the shade range. There’s the usual pinks and nudes in here (three nudes, six pinks), as well as a couple berries, an orangey red, and a few daring colours, such as a slate grey, a black, and a navy blue, which are all colours usually seen more with higher-end brands (*cough* Kat Von D).

Rommel London Stay Matte Longwear Liquid Lipstick

After finding the holy grail of true-longwear lipsticks with the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink lipsticks, I was hesitant that these would perform the same way, as in stay on your lips forever.  Spoiler alert, they don’t hold up the same way as the Maybelline ones, but they do a pretty darn good job (honestly though, I feel like the Maybelline ones say on a little too well).

My favourites from the collection are definitely the nudes, in particular Latte To Go and Moca, as well as Blush, the pinky-nude shade, which is oh so flattering. The red colour, Firestarter was really pretty on as well, as it leans more towards the orange side of reds, and Heartbeat is the perfect bright fuchsia if you’re into that sort of thing. As for the darker colours, they were really pretty, however, and as you will see in the swatches, I found they went on a bit patchy and it was a little difficult to even the colour out once it was on. To be honest though, they seem really patchy in the photos below, but in real life it didn’t look *that* bad.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour wand

The wand on these are those flat doe-foot applicators which make it easy to line your lips then apply the colour, so no liner is needed.  The formula is really pigmented and creamy and paints on nicely, just make sure to get it right before it sets.

Unlike other matte liquid lipsticks, these are pretty comfortable to wear, however, after the five or six hour mark, I did find my lips starting to feel a little dry. Once on, the formula is very lightweight and you don’t really feel like you’re wearing anything at all. After wearing this for a few hours though I did find it started to clump just a little, but I notice this is a common occurrence with matte liquid lipsticks, especially if you reapply the colour throughout the day.

Overall I highly recommend this line from Rimmel. These are definitely on the better end of the drugstore matte liquid lipstick spectrum. I also love the colour range in here and how they offer more non-traditional colours like black, navy, slate grey (I’ve never seen a slate grey matte liquid lipstick in general).

Let me know if you’re picked up any colours and what your thoughts are on the formula!
