Last Saturday I went blonde again.
I’ve been wanting to go blonde for awhile so when I had the opportunity to check out a new salon in town here, I wanted to make the plunge once again and go way lighter. With blonde hair though, comes the need for a tan. Since I’m naturally quite pale, blonde hair makes me look vampire-like, so hence the need for self tanner.
Although I love self tanner, I feel so lazy at the mere thought of applying it. I use it before bed and then when I wake up I’m nice and golden. I typically don’t shower it off though until after a fitness class where it looks like I’m melting because my sweat looks orange due to the fact that I haven’t showered off the colour guard. Because of that, it drastically affects when I apply tanner.
But what if you could apply tanner in the shower and not have to worry about it?
I’ve blogged about these products before but have been holding onto them for a while since I really wanted to try them out. There are a number of in-shower self tanners out there, a couple of which are by my favourite brands.
First up is Vita Liberata’s 10 Minute Tan. You apply this stuff 10 minutes before you head into the shower. It uses advanced organic technology that plumps and conditions the look of skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and supports natural collagen production. It also has vitamin C and omega oils from rosehip to lock in moisture.
So like the name says, you apply this 10 minutes before the shower, then simply lightly rinse it off. Since you’ll be going into the shower, you don’t have that gross self tanner smell once you step out, and the colour ends up developing in the hours after you rinse it off. You don’t have to worry about wearing loose-fitting clothing and you don’t have to freak out about getting wet.
So does it work? I was super sceptical about this because is sounds too good to be true. Although I love the idea of the product and how easy it is, do you really want to be standing about for 10 minutes naked before the shower? Ten minutes is a long time, and they recommend even longer for a deeper tan. I’ve used this a couple times and to be honest, I didn’t really notice that much of a difference. Maybe I had a slightly deeper colour, but definitely not the colour I would get from using the regular Vita Liberata self-tanning mousse.
Next up is St. Tropez’s In Shower Gradual Tan. This stuff works the same way although you actually apply it in the shower (with the water turned off of course). Stand there for at least four minutes and then rinse it off. This product is made with 100 per cent natural DHA and is infused with sweet almond oil to nourish skin for a smooth, soft, and hydrated finish. They recommend using it daily for an intense tan.
I like the fact that you only need to have this on for a few minutes, also, because you are already wet, the product tends to glide on your skin, making it a super quick application with less product. As with the Vita Liberata product, you can get dressed right after and you don’t have to worry about self tan lines. I used this during my evening shower a couple days ago and although I already had self tanner on from before, I feel like I do look a little darker. If anything, it maintained my tan and make it look more even.
Overall, these in-shower tanning products didn’t really impress me. If you are looking for a quick bronzed glow, I would go the regular way and apply a traditional self tanner. I do recommend these products though for maintaining your tan since it does get tiresome to always apply a normal self tanner. This one is easy, especially the St. Tropez one since you put it on in the shower (and in less time). Just do a deep-conditioning mask to kill two birds with one stone.
Have you tried any in-shower tanning products? What were your thoughts?

About a month or so back I got this really cute PR package from haircare all-star Moroccanoil. The package was summer and beach themed, which I felt was a little odd since summer was halfway over. Cute coverup and beach bag aside, good haircare products really transcend every season. With the weather getting chilly (well aside from this past weekend, it was 30 degrees C here in Winnipeg), keeping hair and skin nourished is a big concern for me.
Remember when argan oil was all the rage? Okay, well it never really stopped being the rage but I feel like Moroccanoil was the first brand to really bring it to the mainstream. The cult-classic brand has expanded their range of products to include other haircare items, as well as body care.
The OG product, Moroccanoil Treatment for All Hair Type, 3.4 Ounce
gives you silky, shiny, and healthy hair, all with one pump of product. This argan oil gives your hair mega shine, while also providing it with vitamins that transform hair that detangles and speeds up drying time. If you suffer from frizz or dullness, Moroccanoil is the way to go.
If you find your hair too silky and shiny and want to add a little bit of texture back, their moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray 5.4 OZ
is the way to go. I’m all about big hair and adding volume that sticks. If I’m going out I’ll tease the roots a little for some lift, however, I often find that once an hour goes by my locks tend to fall flat. Instead of dry shampoo or hairspray and a teasing comb, I’ve been reaching for their dry argan oil-infused texture spray that gives you long-lasting hold. This can be used to add volume to your roots or to finish your style. You can also use it to give you a little grip for a bun, braid or updo. It contains high-performance resins and zeolite to form a bond between hairs, giving you that dry, gritty texture.
For the body, now that the weather is getting colder, moisturized skin is a must. Who says that argan oil is exclusively for your hair?! TheMoroccanoil Body Souffle Fragrance Originale 190ml
is a whip of argan oil and shea butter that delivers the most decadent mix of skin hydration, smoothness, and a delectable scent. They do have a variety of fragrances to choose from, but I’m digging the original formula.
Lastly, if you’re heading for a night out, give the remainder of that summer tan a little glow with the Moroccanoil Moroccanoil Shimmering Body Oil Instant Radiance, 1.7 Ounce
. This oil infuses skin with a nourishing blend of antioxidant-rich argan oil and sesame oil. I’m not a huge fan of oils in general since I hate that slimy feeling, but this one absorbs quickly and leaves you with shimmery skin that doesn’t look too over the top. Like the souffle, it also has that irresistible Moroccanoil scent.
Just because we are heading into layer season doesn’t mean that our skin can’t be glowing and our hair nice and lustrous. I’m totally digging all these products from Moroccanoil as we finish up the last few weeks of summer and head into fall.
Have you tried any products from Moroccanoil?

Another day, another matte liquid lip.
I swear I can do a whole separate website just devoted to matte liquid lipsticks. I love the formula, so I’m constantly on the hunt for some new favourites. I was always a fan of NYX Cosmetic’s Lip Lingerie, so naturally I was intrigued by their Liquid Suede.
The NYX Liquid Suede cream lipsticks, available in 24 shades, glide on extremely pigmented colour which sets to a matte finish. The brand claims it’s waterproof, lasting for hours after application.
I received two of the colours, Brooklyn Thorn (a deep taupe) and Respect the Pink (hot pink). The thing about this line, and how it differs from Lip Lingerie, is that there are so many cool, bright colours in here. The pink shade is very bright (I got so many compliments when I wore it) and they also offer up a hot blue, vibrant purple, and so on. What you see is what you get with these as the colour applies similar to how it looks in the tube and with basically one swipe of colour you get intense colour payoff.
These are a very comfortable wear. Typically matte liquid lipsticks are very drying but these are very nourishing on the lips. I wouldn’t call them a true matte, but instead more of a velvet. As for applying the colour, I really love the applicator since it’s one of those longer doe-foot ones that really let you apply the colour precisely. As a result, although you could use a liner with these, but you don’t really have to.
Whenever I check out the NYX section in the drugstore these are always picked over, meaning that they are quite popular. The brand has a few different formulas of matte liquid lipstick, and although I find Lip Lingerie to look more matte in texture, these are a good alternative as they are comfortable and they do leave your lips with a nice finish. I also love how they don’t look streaky at all and stayed on quite well throughout the day (which is often the case with some of those more “fun” colours).
It seems like NYX is always releasing new shades in the line so there’s a colour for everyone. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the shades out!
