I love trying out new foundations.
I mean, I love trying out most beauty products, but there is something so special about foundations that I really particularly love. Every foundation has a different finish, a different texture, a different coverage level, etc. that it’s always such a surprise to see how each and every one will perform.
I recently received the Dermablend Smooth Liquid Camo Foundation and Loose Setting Powder which I couldn’t wait to try since I haven’t really tried much from the brand but have heard such great things about it.
Starting off with the foundation, the Dermablend Smooth Liquid Camo Foundation (C$45) is a medium-coverage hydrating foundation for dry skin that gives you even coverage for up to 16 hours. The foundation, available in 15 shades, also has broad-spectrum SPF 25 in it for coverage when you’re out in the sun.
The formula contains high-performance pigments that allow you to build up the coverage from medium to full and is designed to cover different conditions, such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, redness, and much more. The texture is lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy or cakey on the skin at all.
I got the shade Sepia 40C, which is about half-way through the shade spectrum. For my summer skin this matches me pretty well and I found that it gave me a pretty good coverage. I really liked how this wore on my skin since it covered up any redness or blemishes I had and was very comfortable to wear. I don’t have major skin issues, but the coverage is pretty good on this that I think that if you have any concerns this would do a good job of covering them up.
To set the foundation, the brand also sent me their Loose Setting Powder, which is a translucent setting powder that fits a variety of skin tones (the powder is also available in Cool Beige and Warm Saffron).
The Loose Setting Powder (C$36) is a weightless powder that sets face and body makeup to make it last up to 16 hours. The powder blends out smoothly and absorbs excess oil to mattify the complexion and leave skin looking flawless.
I think that these two products are the perfect pair together. The powder also includes a pouf to apply it with, although I do prefer a brush or a blending sponge to bake the product on the skin. I didn’t find the powder to be any more spectacular than other ones in my collection, but I do like to pair products together from the same brand, so I was happy to use these as a combo to see how they perform.
I like the duo and for the price, it’s well worth the money to pick it up. If you do suffer from skin conditions I would look into purchasing these products (especially the foundation). I also like how there is the added benefit of the SPF built in, so it’s a total win-win.

I’m always down to try out a new bronzer.
You would think that bronzers are pretty straightforward, but after having tried so many of them over the years, there really is a difference between all of them. Formulation, pigmentation, finish, opacity… these are all factors that go into trying out bronzers and deciding which one is perfect for you. Do you like one a little lighter? Do you want matte or shimmer? Are you using it for bronzer, contouring, or both?
Okay, you get the point, so this brings me to today’s post on Maybelline’s new bronzing and contour powders. The City Bronzer & Contour Powder is the brand’s first bronzing and contouring powder that delivers both a sun-kissed and sculpted look. Available in three shades (light, medium, dark), this powder is multifaceted to deliver whatever look you’re in the mood for.
The brand sent me all three of the shades to play around with and depending on the look I’m going for, all three worked for me. If I want something a little lighter on the skin, I like 100; for both contour and bronzing 200 is great; and for contouring or when I’m sporting self tanner, 300 is the most ideal.
The formula in these bronzers contain micro-milled powder which has whipped cocoa butter for a velvety matte finish, meaning that the colour will look very natural on the skin. Truthfully, I didn’t find these bronzers to be any different from ones already in my collection, or ones that I have already tried from Maybelline. I think it’s a good bronzing powder, especially for drugstore, but it didn’t strike me as anything truly unique.
For C$10.99 you really can’t go wrong with this one. It does a great job and would be a welcome addition to anyone’s makeup bag.

I love trying out new beauty brands.
Okay, so technically Nude by Nature isn’t new, but it’s new to me. I’ve seen so many influencers post about it on Instagram that I became instantly intrigued and couldn’t want to get my hands on some products.
Nude by Nature was started in Australia back in 2008 (it’s the country’s number-one selling makeup brand apparently) and all the items are cruelty-free and made with 100 per cent natural ingredients (that means no unnecessary chemicals, synthetic ingredients or preservatives). The brand has every makeup product you could possibly need or want and you can find it locally here at Shopper’s Drug Mart. In terms of price, it is a little bit more costly than your typical drugstore product, but it retails for less than a lot of luxury brands (I would call it midrange, but I find that clean beauty brands usually cost more to purchase in general).
The brand was so kind and sent over a variety of items to try out and since everything was so cute to look at, I couldn’t wait to fully put it all to the test. This is going to be a longer post, so let’s stop wasting time and just get right to it.
Touch of Glow Highlight Stick
This is a cream stick highlighter (C$28) available in four different shades (Champagne, Rose, Bronze, Opal) and is designed to create points of light to enhance your complexion. I have a few similar products in my makeup collection and I love using these for hot summer days or days when I’m doing a simple makeup look since these types of highlighters tend to give you a lighter sheen and more of a glowy, dewy effect.
The formula in this particular one is a cream to powder and is composed of active natural ingredients so it’s nice and gentle on the skin.
Beach Glow Liquid Highlighter
If you’re looking for something more show-stopping, then take a look at their Beach Glow Liquid Highlighter (C$21). At first glance, this highlighter (available in three shades) looks like a lip gloss, so it definitely takes some getting used to (and making sure you read the label). The doe-foot applicator transports light-reflecting pigments in a gel-like consistency to the skin, leaving you with a luminous, blinding finish.
This highlight is more heavy duty than the Touch of Glow stick and can be mixed your favourite foundation for a dewy glow as well. It contains a number of active natural ingredients and is enriched with vitamin E and avocado oil for moisture.
Sheer Light Illuminator
If you are looking for that “lit from within” kind of look, then take a gander at their Sheer Light Illuminator (C$32). This cream formula is designed to give a subtle luminosity to the skin and the formula instantly illuminates the complexion.
You can use this as a primer, over top of makeup, or added to your foundation for an ultimate glow. It also contains skin-calming ingredients so it’s very gentle when applied. Truthfully, I would skip this product since I don’t really see a purpose for it. If I wanted a dewy look then I would just use a suitable foundation and a highlighter. With that being said, if you don’t have a large makeup collection like I do, then this product would be a good addition since it basically does three things.
Contour palette
Everyone needs a contour palette in their life, and at C$32, this one is not a bad price point to pick up.
Open the stunning copper palette to reveal a three-shade contour kit that helps add depth and dimension to the face. This is suitable for all skin tones since you have technically two bronzers in here and a highlight, so it makes it perfect for travel as well since you simplify the amount of products you’ll need to bring with you. The powders are buildable so you can customize the amount of contouring or bronzing you would like. The powder went on very lightweight and leaves you with a natural look.
Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow
Moving onto the eyes, the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow (C$22) is a shadow pigment available in three colours (Rose Sand, Coral Sand, and White Sand). Trust off the cap to reveal a doe-foot applicator that you can either apply directly to the lids or with a brush. The formula is enriched with Kaolin clay to keep colour in place for a long time.
I’m not a huge fan of pigment shadows since I find them to be very messy to use, but I got the colour White Sand in this one and found that it did give you a nice application. The formula is really nice and glides on the lids, leaving them looking luminous and glowing.
Natural Pressed Eyeshadow
If you’re like me and prefer a pressed shadow, Nude By Nature has that too. The Natural Pressed Eyeshadow (C$18) is available in 12 different shades and is a pigmented shadow that blends effortlessly onto the lids. This shadow is available in three finishes, matte, satin, and sheen, which allows you to create variety of different looks. The formula is light, meaning that you can really build the colour pigmentation the lids, which allows for a natural application.
I want to note that I really love the packaging on these shadows (even though they are singles). The shiny copper packaging opens up to a large palette with a mirror on the lid, allowing for an seamless application.
Contour Eye Pencil
To complement your eye look, grab the Contour Eye Pencil (C$18) which is available in six different shades with two different finishes, matte and sheen. This eye pencil glides on the lids and can be used to create a variety of different looks from natural too dramatic. It contains active natural ingredients such as mango and macadamia oils for rich colour and intense definition.
Since this pencil is a dual-ended pencil, the other end includes a smudge tip for easy blending if you’re going for a more smoky look.
Definition Eyeliner
For a more intense liner thy the Definition Eyeliner (C$22), which is a liquid eyeliner designed to give rich colour and more dramatic definition. Available in two colour (black and brown), this eyeliner has a foam-tip applicator which allows for precise application. It also has Pro Vitamin B5 in it to help nourish the eye area.
I received the brown shade and since this eyeliner dips into the base I found the colour on the applicator to dry out while I was applying it (once the colour is on though it didn’t budge). I prefer a liquid eyeliner pen since it’s easier to apply the colour because it’s always damp. The colour applied nicely but I would have to say that this ins’t my favourite liner in my collection.
Allure Defining Mascara
Mascara is a mainstay in any beauty brand, so I was really excited to give Nude by Nature’s a shot. The Allure Defining Mascara (C$24), available in black and brown, has a flexible brush that allows you to comb through the lashes, separating them and lengthening them in one step. The formula is buildable and contains candelilla wax and arabic gum, which allows for soft and flexible lashes with no flaking. It also has Pro Vitamin B5 to condition the lashes.
I got the brown shade of this mascara, which I like using for daytime looks since it’s softer. It did an okay job on the lashes since it definitely separated them out and lengthened, but if I were doing my makeup for a more dramatic look I would skip this one. But then again, I wouldn’t use a brown mascara for a dramatic look. For an everyday mascara, this one does the trick.
Creamy Matte Lipstick
For the lips, the brand has a few different options to choose from. The Creamy Matte Lipstick (C$23), available in 10 shades, delivers a soft-focus finish with a comfortable, plus wear. This lipstick contains Vitamin E and nature Australian Kakdu Plum to provide antioxidant defence, whereas the conditioning mango seed butter, jojoba oil, and moisturizing microspheres ensure that the lipstick is comfortable and long-lasting on the lips.
I found this lipstick to glide on the lips and was very moisturizing and comfortable when applied. The colour was also very pretty and lasted hours without application.
Moisture Shine Lipstick
If you’re looking for an everyday lipstick, then take a look at the Moisture Shine Lipstick (C$23). This lipstick, available in 10 shades, delivers colour and a beautiful shine. The formula also contains Vitamin E and native Australian Kakadu Plum to help with antioxidant defence, as well as nourishing shea butter, jojoba oil and moisturizing microspheres for a lightweight and pleasant wear.
I really liked this lipstick since I found it was easy to just throw on and the formula was comfortable and the colour quite opaque. Between the two, I would choose this one since it is a good all-around lipstick to have in your collection and the colour range varies from nudes to darks.
Moisture Infusion Lipgloss
Last one! To finish off your lip look, grab one of the Moisture Infusion Lipglosses (C$21). Available in 10 shades, these glosses deliver colour and shine to the lips, without feeling too sticky. The formula also contains unique moisturizing microspheres (as well as the same active ingredients as the lipsticks) to help repair and plump lips for a more voluminous look.
I received a couple colours of these and absolutely love them. I’m typically not a gloss person (not a fan of the texture), but I really loved how the colour looked on my lips and the comfort level and shine. My top pick is the shade Peach Nude!
Overall, I found there were some hits and misses in this brand. If you were to choose three items, I would go with one of the highlighters, the contour kit, and the Moisture Infusion Lipgloss. I also want to note that I absolutely love the packaging on every item since it features that stunning shiny copper effect.
Next time you’re in Shopper’s Drug Mart I highly recommend stopping by the Nude by Nature section and playing around with the products to get a better look and feel for them. I’m not that picky when it comes to if it’s clean beauty or not, but if you prefer that sort of thing then I think you’ll really enjoy what the brand has to offer.
