Role call: Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing! Cakeless Concealer

I always love trying out a new concealer.

I’ll be honest, I’m not really the perfect candidate for concealers. I don’t have dark circles or anything like that, so I mostly just use the concealer to bring some brightness to under my eyes.

I have a ton of different concealers and one that I’ve consistently loved has been Benefit’s Boi-ing! Concealer, which previously came housed in a little container.  It just so happens that a few weeks ago, I pulled it out to use and I opened it to find that it went bad.  Totally disappointing, but lucky for me, the brand actually released a new version of Boi-ing, this time in a more sanitary packaging.

Benefit Boi-ing! Cakeless Cream Concealer

The Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer (C$30) is a full-coverage liquid concealer that helps with dark circles, blemishes, and discolouration. Available in 12 different shades (from light to dark), this concealer feels lightweight on the skin and best of all, doesn’t cake up as you wear it.

Unlike the OG version, you apply this version of Boi-ing with the doe-foot applicator which helps you create a more targeted approach and helps with a smooth application.  Benefit mentions that it’s waterproof, although I haven’t put that to test.

The brand was so kind and sent me two shades to try out and found that it matched me perfectly. I prefer a doe-foot applicator personally, so I was happy that they changed the packaging on this to make it more hygienic, which I am always down for (especially since bacteria grows on cosmetics so quickly).

Overall I really love this concealer and happy that Benefit added a new concealer to the Boi-Ing family (they also make the Airbrush formula still, which is the one in the jar). If I had to pick one of these concealers to try out, I would definitely go with their new cakeless one since it’s so versatile and they offer a pretty good shade range to choose from.

Sweet smells: Four perfumes to pick up this fall

Is there such a thing as too many perfumes?

I didn’t think so.

Sure, lipsticks are definitely something that evokes personality, but there is nothing like a perfume to make you feel a certain way. Perfumes evoke emotions and something as simple as a particular smell can transport you into a specific time and place. They give you memories; it’s more than just some fragrant notes in a bottle.

Anyways, I love getting perfumes because that’s like the beginning of a scrapbook. They still have their story to tell and I can’t wait to see the perfume transform into a story. Companies are always coming out with new scents so I wanted to outline some noteworthy ones to take a look for this season.

Four perfumes from Armani, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, and Juicy Couture

Giorgio Armani Si Fiori

I actually brought my Armani In Love With You perfume to New York, so I have a sentimental thing with his perfumes.

New to the game is Si Fiori, a sweet floral perfume that is perfect as we transition into fall. This scent has key notes of blackcurrant, orange blossom, and vanilla, which at first sniff, will definitely have you thinking candy vibes. It’s a little more mature though and kind of has hints of cotton thrown in (although it’s not an official note, but I tend to pick it up when I sniff it).

The bottle is very beautiful and simple. It has a black stone top and the bottle itself is glass with a pale pink interior, which truthfully looks more like a nail polish bottle than anything else.

You can find it at Sephora for C$75 to C$122.

Bottega Veneta Illusione For Her Eau de Parfum Bottega Veneta Illusione

This one is my very first Bottege Veneta perfume and it doesn’t disappoint.

I typically like sweeter scents when it comes to perfumes, but as soon as I read the notes in the brand’s new Illusione eau de perfum, I knew I would dig this one as well.

Inspired by Italy (and made there too), this perfume has notes of bergamot, blackcurrant, orange blossom, green fig leaves, olive wood, and tonka bean. Although there is a men’s version as well, I do find the female one to have that androgynous scent, where it transcends the line of male versus female.  It’s definitely more mature and has that expensive department store smell to it.  When I take a whiff I get more 35-year-old CEO vibes, alluding to the fact that it’s something more mature and sexier.

The bottle is also very beautiful. The glass is tinted a copper colour and the rounded lid has a hollow hole in the middle to fit around the spray nozzle. This perfume retails for C$145 at Hudson’s Bay.

Burberry Her Blossom

Burberry Her Blossom

I absolutely love the original Burberry Her, so when I saw they came out with another one in the line, I just had to have it.

Burberry Her Blossom looks identical the original Burberry Her in bottle, with the only difference being the colour of the lid (the original has a blush pink lid, whereas Her Blossom has a white one). To be honest, I also find this one kind of similar in scent to the original as well, just not as candy sweet.

Her Blossom is a very sweet summery scent that the brand describes as a “love letter to London in bloom”. Giving it a whiff, you’ll notice floral gourmand, mandarin, and pink peppercorn before heart notes of plum blossom and peony and base notes of musk and sandalwood.

As mentioned, I do find this one to be similar to the original Burberry Her. With that being said, if you liked Her but found it to be a little too sweet, then you may want to look into Her Blossom.  It’s still sweet but leans more towards floral.  Personally I love both and think they are a great asset to have in my perfume collection.

Find it at Hudson’s Bay for C$132.

Giorgio Armani Si perfume

Juicy Couture Oui

I’ve always had a thing for Juicy Couture fragrances.

It seems like the brand in general has had a bit of a comeback lately, and even though their tracksuits may have become less popular since the mid-2000’s, their fragrance line has steadily been a hit.

I have so many Juicy Couture scents and although the original Viva La Juicy is one of my all-time faves (and the only perfume I have ever finished and gotten another bottle of), anytime they release a new scent I need to give it a whiff.

I actually received their newest scent Juicy Couture Oui last year at the LD Beauty event and I love it because it’s so different from what I’ve seen from them in the past. This eau de parfum has top notes of watermelon, açai tea natureprint, followed by jasmine absolute, wild tuberose, dewy honeysuckle natureprint, and ending with techno woods, amber resins, and captive musks.

I do think that the scent is very young and would be perfect for those in the 16 to 27 age bracket. It’s a very easygoing fragrance and one that can be worn everyday. I would reserve it for the daytime, but it’s definitely something that is easy to wear, both in terms of what you’re doing and who’s wearing it.

You can find it at Shopper’s Drug Mart for C$99.

Since we are still in the summer season, I wanted to talk about scents that are easily transferable from season to season. Although some of these are lighter or sweeter, they are all great, wearable perfumes that I highly recommend you check out.

Between the sheets: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk collection

It started with the eyeshadow palette for me and then spurred into something more.

Okay, so I think it’s safe to assume that Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk lipstick is the most iconic product in her line of makeup (although there are some seriously wonderful things in her line up in general), and what just started off as just a lipstick has quickly branched into a whole assortment of products based off the blush nude shade.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk collection

My first foray into Pillow Talk was actually the eyeshadow palette (C$66), which is a four-shadow palette in complementary hues. Their Luxury Palette (which is also available in an assortment of other colour combos) boasts four shades that totally make eyes show stopping and noticeable. Included in the palette is a shimmery champagne pink, a matte dusky rose, a soft matte brown, and a rose gold sparkle.  I love this palette since it’s so versatile, easy to wear, and flattering on the eye area. Since I have blue eyes, it really helps make them pop.

I did do a post on this palette already if you want to check it out in more detail.

Also flattering is their Cheek to Chic blush in the shade Pillow Talk (C$50), which I believe came out a few months ago. I’ve tried the brand’s cream blush formula before, but definitely prefer the powder.  The Cheek to Chic blushes are also available in a variety of other shades and they contain Light Flex technology which creates the appearance of capturing light and re-emitting it for a luminous-looking complexion. At first glance you’ll notice the dual design and shades in the pan which are designed to be swirled together to create the perfect shade. The colour is very natural and perfectly complements your complexion. I love this shade and think it’s universally flattering, meaning it would look perfect on just about any skin tone.

To finish up the look you of course need to wear the product that started it all, the lipstick! First start with the Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk (C$27), which is a nude pink lip liner designed to be worn with the lipstick. These liners have a waterproof, velvet formula that just glides onto the lips helping you to shapes lips, keep the colour longer, and prevent feathering.

Next, glide on the Matte Revolution lipstick in the iconic shade (C$39) for a matte lip look. This lipstick formula contains trees and orchid extracts to soften, protect, and hydrates lips, leaving them looking younger and healthier.  It also have 3D glowing pigments to create an illusion of being lit from within and making them look wider and fuller.

If matte isn’t your thing, then try out the brand-new Pillow Talk Diamond lipstick topper (C$39), which is a shimmery lipstick that can be worn alone or overtop of another lipstick. This topper contains mineral-based pigments to capture and reflect light for a multi-dimensional glow. It also has sunflower seed oil and hops extract to nourish and condition the lips.  Worn alone it looks very shimmery, but when layered over top of the Matte Revolution lipstick it adds a glossy effect.

Clearly it’s obvious that I absolutely love the shade Pillow Talk, and honestly, it’s for good reason. This shade is so flattering on most skin tones and I love that the brand has come out with so many different products so it can be worn in a variety of ways.  All the products I have tried in the Pillow Talk shade are worth their hype and if you can get your hands on one, whether it’s the liner, the eyeshadow, the blush, or the lipstick, I promise you won’t regret it.

Do you tried anything from the Pillow Talk line up?
