A grape affair: Caudalie skincare staples and where to get them!

I’ve been a huge fan of Caudalie skincare for awhile now.

The French skincare brand, which started in Bordeaux and features grade seed as their star ingredient, has a number of all-star skincare products that will make your complexion glow.  I have been using some of their products for years now and have definitely noticed how nice my skin looks after every use.

Caudalie Travel Set from Beauty Sense

If you haven’t tried out their products, I have rounded up a couple faves that would make a great introduction to the brand in case you wanted to try them out. The first product is their Caudalie Travel Set (C$49), which includes five sample-sized bestsellers that is great to both try out to see how you like the items, as well as throw them in your suitcase for your travel skincare routine.

This set includes a full skincare routine with the brand’s star products. Included is the Micellar Cleansing Water (30 ml), Premier Cru The Eye Cream (5 ml), Beauty Elixir (30 ml), Vinoperfect Radiance Serum (10 ml), and Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet (15 ml). I have tried out the full sizes of the Beauty Elixir and the Vinoperfect products and absolutely love them. This set is worth it for the Beauty Elixir alone, which is one of my all-time favourite beauty products, and is a cult-classic skincare spray that is inspired by the Queen of Hungary’s elixir of youth. This 100 per cent plant-based formula is a favourite among makeup artists and instantly brightens your mood (and face), plus it smells like you walked right into a spa.

This set comes housed in a travel case and is valued at C$115, making it perfect to pick up for yourself or even as a gift for this upcoming holiday season.

The second item I would recommend is their Resveratrol Lift Firming Serum (C$94), which is a firming serum that delivers visibly firmer and toned skin, as well as a reduction in wrinkles.

The formula contains Vine Resveratrol and hyaluronic acid to smooth and firm skin.  Ninety-five per cent of the other ingredients are of natural origin, so no harmful chemicals here.  This oil-free serum melts into your skin, quickly absorbing it and leaving you feeling smooth, not sticky. I also want to add that it smells delicious, as it has notes of sweet herbal tea, so it’s a real pleasure to apply (if you like scented products).

Big & beautiful: Covergirl Exhibitionist Uncensored mascara

I’ve always been a huge fan of CoverGirl mascaras.

For the most part, every mascara I have tried from the iconic drugstore brand has blown me away. When I got their Exhibitionist mascara last year (or was it this year? I can’t remember) I had really high hopes for it. It had the same kind of wand as my favourite, Too Faced’s Better Than Sex, as well as L’Oreal Paris’ Lash Paradise.  When I tried it though, it didn’t perform as well as I would have hoped.

But then CoverGirl came out with a new Exhibitionist, the mascara’s sister, Exhibitionist Uncensored.  This mascara, available in four shades (extreme black, extreme black waterproof, black, and black-brown) promises to deliver big, bold lashes with all-day wear and no clumps, flakes, or smudges.

The brand sent me their waterproof version, which I don’t typically reach for since I find the formula really hard to remove. In terms of waterproof mascara, this one actually isn’t too bad with the removal, and since I don’t really have any waterproof mascaras that aren’t at least two years old, I was glad to have it.

The brush on this mascara is different than the original Exhibitionist and is a long medium-sized blush with medium bristles. It’s the kind of mascara that really lets you coat every lash and work it so you can mould how you want your lashes to look.  The packaging, unlike its grey-bottled sister, comes in a sleek black packaging with rose gold text.

So my thoughts on this one? I liked it way better than the original Exhibitionist and would totally recommend it! It left my lashes looking nice and long and very noticeable.  Is it my new favourite CoverGirl mascara. That’s a hard one since they have so many amazing formulas out there, but it’s definitely near the top!

I’m not when this is launching in stores (should be any day now though!) and usually Covergirl’s mascaras retail around the $10 price point (Amazon has it for C$12.12). If you’re in the market for a new mascara, I would say to give this one a try. I really like the formula of it, and if you’re heading on a hot vacation this winter, I would totally recommend the waterproof version as well!

Magic skin: Avon Magix Wand Foundation and Primer

If you’re looking for an affordable foundation, Avon has you covered.

I’m usually not too keen on stick foundation as I prefer something I can apply to a brush and then blend, but sticks are great for travel as well as contouring your face (if you get a deeper shade). Brand new from Avon is their Magix Wand Foundation Stick, which is a cream foundation that allows you to conceal, highlight, and contour your face for flawless skin.

This foundation, available in 16 shades, is a multi-use makeup stick that gives buildable sheer-to-full coverage, leaving you with a flawless complexion that blurs the look of wrinkles and pores.  The finish of this foundation is demi-matte, which means no oil or shine. The formula contains shea butter and Vitamin E to moisturize and provide antioxidant protection.  It applies as a cream-to-powder formula and the best part is, depending on the shade you choose, you can use it as a foundation, a highlight, or a contour.

Avon sent me three shades to play around with and I was actually quite impressed with the coverage.  This foundation stick is quite small, making it compact for your purse (on-the-go touch ups) and for travel. I like to just apply this directly to the face and then use a buffer brush to blend it all out. The wear is very lightweight and i didn’t find it to crease or cake up after a few hours.

Avon Magix Prime primer

If you are interested in this foundation, it’s currently on sale for C$12.99 instead of $15. The formula is also vegan if you are into clean beauty.

The brand has also released their Magix Prime Face Protector SPF 20 Sunscreen to go with the foundation as a primer. This product is a colourless gel-to-powder formula that can be used as a primer under foundation or by itself to smooth and blur the look of fine lines and pores.  This also gives you matte skin for up to seven hours and has an SPF 20 in it to protect your skin against sun damage.

This also retails for C$12.99 (regular price is $15!) and is suitable for all skin types. If you are picking up the foundation, I would recommend looking into this as well.
