Hydration sensation: Three lip balms to add to your collection

The one beauty product I have to have on me at all times? A lip balm.

I have balms of all shapes and sizes. I have affordable ones, I have expensive ones, I have coloured ones, I have translucent ones, others have SPF in them… you get the point.

Anyways, since you can really never have enough lip balm in your collection, I always get so excited when new ones come my way and lately I’ve been getting a few different luxe ones.  Now, spending over $20 for a lip balm may sound excessive, but it is nice to have a more fancier balm to carry with you in your bag, especially if you are going out for the evening or day. Heck, since I’m not even wearing any makeup most days, it’s pretty nice to have at least something fancy to put on my face, even if there is no colour involved.

Anyways, if you are on the hunt for a new luxe lip balm to add to your collection, then here are three that I think you’ll love.

Mary Kay Intuitive pH lip balms

Mary Kay Intuitive pH Lip Balm

Limited-edition from Mary Kay, the Intuitive pH Lip Balms (C$21 each) are a shade-changing lip balm that reacts with the pH levels in your skin to create a colour that is custom to you.  Every person that applies this balm will be left with a different colour, which makes this product so unique and fun.

The lip balm, which is available in pink and berry, is very moisturizing and will leave your lips hydrated for hours.  The best part is that with every purchase of one of these lip balms, Mary Kay will donate $1 towards supporting the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation efforts to invest in cancer research for women-related cancers and efforts to end domestic violence against women in Canada. Total win-win.

NARS Afterglow Lip Balm

NARS Afterglow Lip Balm

If you want a really bougie lip balm, then check out NARS’ Afterglow Lip Balm (C$37). These lip balms (available in eight shades), have Monoi Hydrating Complex in them to give you smooth and supple lips, as well as a blend of antioxidants to help protect and nourish.

Seven of the eight shades have a sheer colour to them, whereas the eighth one is translucent (Clean Cut).  These leave your lips feeling nice and hydrated and also feature SPF 10 (at least Clean Cut does, not sure about the rest of them).

I have two shades, Clean Cut and Orgasm.  I actually received these in New York and only brought the translucent one back with me (Orgasm is still in New York), but I keep this on me at all times in my purse and have found it really handy to apply whenever my lips feel dry. The other shade I have, Orgasm, gives you a slight pinky red colour that is very flattering on.

Lip balms from Avon, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and NARS

Avon VDL Expert Colour Lip Cube Marble Glow

Finally, new from Avon and VDL is the Expert Colour Lip Cube Marble Glow ($40), which is a lip balm that delivers soft colour and intense moisture to the lips.

Available in three shades (Blooming Pink, Blessing Coral, and Mint Flavor, which is colourless), these lip balms include 80 per cent moisturizing oil to instantly condition the lips and add shine. It features a unique diamond shape, which takes some getting used to, but applies the product precisely to the lips.

I do like this balm but find that at $40 it’s a bit rich to pick up for a lip balm (especially since you can get a similar one from Dior or Chanel for around the same price). I have the pink shade and do like it and the packaging definitely feels very luxe.  This lip balm is on sale right now for $32, so if you really want it, then I would recommend contacting your local Avon rep ASAP!

Like I said before, I love a good lip balm and it’s definitely my desert island product. With the whole mask thing going on, lipstick may not be the best product to wear right now, but you’ll want to carry around a lip balm for when those puckers feel dry. Might as well be a fancy one.

What’s your favourite luxe lip balm?
