Sustainable skin: The Face Halo Makeup Remover

With a whole movement towards used less single-use plastic, I never would have thought that maybe single-use cosmetic wipes would also do damage to our ecosystem as well.

Although makeup wipes probably are recyclable, to be honest, I always just mindlessly toss them in the trash (or if I’m using a cotton round, flush it down the toilet).  Because of this, it makes totally sense that brands and products are popping up with reusable makeup removers that you can use over and over again.

Enter the Face Halo, which the brand calls “the modern makeup remover”. This product is a round disc that is made with fibres similar to a towel that you wet with either cold or warm water. The water loosens your makeup, allowing the Face Halo to reach deep into your pores to remove and trap makeup, taking it all off and leaving you with clean skin.  Sounds too good to be true, right?

Face Halo makeup remover

I received the Face Halo a couple weeks ago where one pack includes three Halos. I couldn’t wait to try this out since it sounded like such an innovative product and I’ve seen other similar items (The Makeup Eraser) and heard amazing things about them. The Face Halo is so simple to use that it’s comical in that you only need this product and water. No makeup remover. No cleanser. Just the Face Halo.

The first time I used this, it took off all my makeup relatively easy. Although they say you don’t need to use a cleanser afterwards, I did use one since it’s just what I’m used to.  Even when I used my toner afterwards there was essentially no makeup residue on the cotton round, which is quite a rarity for me, especially if I’m using a normal makeup remover.

Now since the Face Halo is white, it does end up getting pretty gross looking since your makeup gets trapped in the fibres.  The brand says that you can just toss it in with your laundry and it will hold up for up to 200 washes, meaning that you’ll probably have that Face Halo for like 10 years, which is crazy (and there’s three in a pack!). Truthfully, I’m surprised that they made the product white since it gets so dirty so fast, but maybe they didn’t want to use any dyes on the product (that’s the best reasoning I can come up with). With that being said, they do have a Pro version for the same price which comes in black.

This product truly blew me away and I love the fact that it is reusable, meaning less waste.  I highly recommend looking into picking one of these up.  It retails for C$28.79, which is a steal considering that the three pack will probably last you for the rest of your life.

Do you use sustainable makeup removers?

Please note, I received this product from PR. All opinions are my own.
