Perfect skin: Kat Von D Beauty True Portrait Foundation

I’ve always been a fan of Kat Von D’s Lock-It Foundation.

I actually purchased it a few years ago and then ended up returning it since I found it to be too high coverage for everyday wear. This stuff is war paint, it goes on thick and will cover any blemish or imperfection on your face.

A short time after I returned it, I ended up getting it sent to me through PR in a shade that I only wear on vacation since it’s way too dark for my pale skin, but works perfectly with a spray tan (which I always get before embarking on a trip).  In general though, even if I had my perfect shade, it would be way too much makeup to wear since this stuff is the thickest foundation I own (but great for a night out or a vacation).

Thankfully, Kat Von D Beauty) has come out with a new foundation that is on the lighter side.

New from the cruelty-free vegan makeup brand, Kat Von D has released their True Portrait Foundation (C$48), which is a lightweight, medium-coverage foundation that has a liquid to powder formula.

Available in 40 shades, this foundation glides on the skin and sets to a long-wear airy-matte finish that is breathable on the skin and is weightless (unlike it’s predecessor). Unlike Lock-It, the consistency of this foundation is on the thin side which makes it easy to glide on the skin (a little goes a long way). This foundation comes housed in a slim white bottle that you shake before applying.  It also has an Elastic Essence Effect to it so it moves with your expressions. Kat Von D says that this foundation is ideal for normal to oily skin as it gives you a matte finish and controls shine.

I’ve been using this foundation pretty much everyday for the past three weeks and truthfully, I find the formula to be very similar to Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Shameless Youthful-Look 24H Foundation, which is also a lightweight, medium-coverage foundation. I also want to note that both Marc Jacobs Beauty and Kat Von D are owned by the same company. Price-wise though, the Kat Von D version comes in C$10 cheaper and has more shade options available.

Overall, I found this to be a good everyday foundation. Since it’s not heavy in terms of texture of finish, I think this foundation is great for your nine-to-five office day, as well as doing errands since it feels so weightless on the skin.  I love how the brand came out with a lighter formula for foundation since not everyone likes wearing so something so heavy. Next they need something in the medium range, since Lock It and True Portrait really are on either side of the spectrum.
