Primary colours: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri x Crayola collection

I’ve always wanted to get one of those adult colouring books.

Aside from the fact that they help with relaxation, I just love the idea that colouring as an adult is totally acceptable. I mean, not that anyone would look at you strangely if you were to whip out a box of crayons or anything, but doing some expressive arts is very popular at the moment.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri x Crayola

Which brings me to today’s post. There’s been so many cool collaborations in the beauty industry over the past few years that it came as no surprise that crayon mega-brand Crayola has teamed up with Sally Hansen on a nail polish collection (a match made in heaven if you ask me!).

As part of the Insta-Dri collection, this collection consists of 12 shades inspired by the Crayola colours we all know and love. There’s red, there’s yellow, blue, green, white, purple, and more! These elementary school shades are all housed in the normal Sally Hansen Insta-Dri bottles, complete with the Crayola signature squiggle on the lids.

If you aren’t familiar with the Insta-Dri formula, these are designed to apply the colour in one stroke with one coat. True to the name, they are supposed to dry in only 60 seconds.

I received all 12 shades to try out and at first glance they are very primary in colour. When I got to actually swatching them though, I was super impressed with the shades they chose to go with. Since there’s probably thousands of shades of crayons out there, I do think that some of the colours in here are very similar, so I would have thought they would go with 12 complete different colours, but overall this is a very good collection.

Most colours went on great after one coat. Dandelion, White, and Sunset Orange all needed two to get rid of any streaks, but you can totally do these with just one if you’re in a hurry. All three of those colours are on the neon side as well (they are super bright, along with Carnation Pink). Most of the colours did stain though when I went to remove them, so just a heads up. I’m not sure if they stained because I didn’t let them dry down all the way for the purposes of this post, or because that’s just how the formula is.

Overall, I really love this collection, more so than I thought actually. These may be basic colours, but they are super bright when you apply them, and although summer is almost over, this is one of those collections that is perfect for the season.

Will you be picking up any colours from the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri x Crayola collection?
