Locked and loaded: Three products I’m using to maintain healthy hair
I’ve always prided myself on my hair. I have naturally very thick hair that is quite fine, so I find that I tend to shed a lot (I’m not sure who’s hair I sweep up more, my dogs or mine). It also takes me forever to get highlights at the salon (we’re talking at least four hours).
Anyways, although it’s super thick and tends to shed quite often, I’m still super proud of it. I like to keep it long and use products that will maintain and nourish its health (one of the first things my boyfriend noticed about me was my voluminous, shiny hair). I get a lot of hair products to try out and although some are definitely better than others, I have a few current faves that aren’t just your typical shampoo and conditioner.
Priorin hair capsules
I used to take hair and nail gummies but now I’ve switched over to the PRIORIN Hair Growth Stimulant that help with hair growth. By taking two capsules a day, Priorin improves hair growth by the use of various nutrients, including millet extract, amino acid L-cystine, and calcium pantothenate, which in combination has been shown to stimulate and improve the growth of hair. It also contains biotin, which helps to maintain healthy hair, which is the main reason I use it.
Each box contains 30 capsules. Since hair growth progresses slowly, the brand recommends taking two capsules every day with food for at least three to six months. After that time period, the nutrients in the capsules will have stimulated and you’ll notice improved hair growth.
I’ve been taking these capsules since last month and with the combination of a few other haircare products, I’ve noticed that my hair has been looking really healthy, shiny, and vibrant. I’m excited to see how this will improve my hair over the long term. Perhaps less breakage?
You can find Priorin at drugstores and if you visit their site you can download a coupon for $5 off your purchase.
Alterna Caviar Infinite Color Hold haircare line
Like I said, I get a lot of hair products to try out, some impressive, others not. My newest fave? Alterna’s Caviar Infinite Color Hold line.
All I had to read was the word “caviar” and I was sold. This line, when using all four products together, promises 70-day vibrant colour and shine. Consisting of a shampoo, conditioner, vibrancy serum, and topcoat shine spray, the line provides UV protection, minimizing colour fade for lasting colour and vibrancy, while also replenishing lost moisture.
I been absolutely loving everything in this line. I start with the shampoo and conditioner, then apply the Vibrancy Serum to my hair while it’s damp. This serum helps to rejuvenate colour, add shine, replenish moisture, and boost radiance. It also helps against heat protection. Once I’m done styling my hair, I’ll use the Topcoat Shine Spray to add some radiance to my locks and protect it against the elements.
I brought this combo with me to Vegas this past weekend and absolutely loved the way that my hair looked on the trip (I actually saw it in their Sephora stores while I was there). If you suffer from dull hair, I would definitely look into purchasing this. These do sell at salon prices (C$40 for the shampoo, C$40 for the conditioner, C$42.50 for the serum, and C$40 for the shine spray), however, I highly recommend picking this up and saving it for special nights out or special occasions. I constantly rotate my hair care depending on what I’m doing. This stuff is A+!
The Innate Life Rose Hair Elixir
Whether it’s a serum for my face, or one for my hair, I love having these guys on hand when I really need to add some moisture to my locks.
I recently received the Rose Hair Elixir (C$19.01) from Toronto brand The Innate Life, a natural, non-toxic, and organic haircare line. This elixir (which smells amazing BTW) contains over 15 potent plant oils that are aimed at nourishing split ends, taming frizzy hair, providing heat protection, repairing damaged hair, and giving you shine. Some of the star oils in here include Rose Essential Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Rosehip Oil, Black Cumin Seed Oil (which is apparently what Cleopatra used as a beauty treatment), Hemp Seed Oil, and Argan Oil.
This stuff is great for travel since I tend to bring two styling products with me – a split-end tamer and a serum. Since this packs a serious punch, it’s all you really need to transform lifeless, dry and damaged hair back to lustre and shine. Toss it in your travel bag or gym bag – or just keep it on your counter – and add it to your hair when you want a little more oomph!
Now that summer is half over here, it’s important to protect your hair against the sun’s UV rays and then the harsher cold weather as we change seasons. I’ve been loving this routine of products to keep my hair in tip-top shape.
Let me know what your favourite products are for maintaining hair health!
