Feeling bold: Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipcolours
If there’s one lip product that’s been making the rounds on Instagram, it’s Maybelline’s new Vivid Matte Liquid by ColorSensational Lip.
Officially launched this month, these high-opacity lip shades are full in colour, in both pigmentation and shade range. Available in 10 shades from nude to pinks to red to purples, this sensuous matte lip colour has a velvet smooth texture with a creamy matte finish. They are infused with pure pigments for a high-impact colour; what you see is what you get.
I received four of these guys: 5 Nude Thrill, 10 Nude Flush, 15 Pink Charge, and 20 Electric Pink, and the first thing I noticed was how these really do apply quite bold. I’ve been testing out a lot of matte liquid lipsticks lately, so these were a saving grace on my lips, since unlike other brands, they don’t dry you out. You don’t have the shrivelled-up my-lips-feel-like-they-are-in-the-desert sensation that is synonymous with matte liquid lip colours. Long story short, they typically aren’t that comfortable to wear. With these Maybelline ones though, you get a soft, cushiony feel that doesn’t make you reach for the nearest lip balm.
Usually the dryness is required to full set the colour matte, since the colour is essentially sealed on your lips, however, the Vivid Mattes still dry relatively matte. Depending on the colour, I have seen some shine peek through, but I don’t really mind that, especially with the lighter shades. But I mean, I would rather have comfort over matte-ness. I will say though, that because these don’t set as hard as other traditional matte formulas, I do find myself reapplying the colour more than I would with other brands (MAC’s Retro Matte, L’Oreal Infallible Two-Step lip colours, or the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks would be examples). Also, if you reach for the darker colours, I would be wary of smudging or transfer since these don’t seal on your lips as much as other matte lip colours.
Overall, these are like the kid sister to true matte lip colours. If you don’t like the feeling of this texture with other brands then I would look into these. The colour payoff is amazing and Maybelline has come out with a variety of different shades to suit anyone. Of the four I received there isn’t any that I can say I don’t like. I obviously gravitated towards Electric Pink first, but once I got to playing with the other colours, I really started to appreciate what Maybelline did with these. Some of them I found actually went on nicer or different than they looked in the tube. Pink Charge is a high-intensity, almost fluorescent pink with a hint of coral, making it perfect for summer and a tan. I’ve seen Nude Flush all over social media, and with good reason as it leans towards a pink-toned nude, making it really wearable for both day and night.
I would love to pick up a few more shades from this range, since the purples are really calling my name. If you’ve picked up any colours, let me know your thoughts!
