Since Christmas is the perfect time to just chill at home and watch festive movies all day, new for holidays 2015, nail polish mega-giant OPI has released an 18-shade lacquer collection, complete with shimmers, glitters, and tons of sparkle.
Unlike typical holiday collections, this one centres more on gem shades instead of the usual reds and glitters. Don’t get me wrong, there’s that too, but they also threw in lots of purples, greys, blues, you name it. Just like the name, think intergalactic hues that will make it hard choosing just one shade.
I was really excited for this collection as I typically love holiday releases. Unfortunately, when I saw the press materials, there wasn’t really a shade in there that I absolutely just had to get my hands (nails?) on. Upon swatching them, only a few stick out in my mind that I would reapply. There are two thicker glitters in here, which are very sheer; although the foil and glitter was sparse, Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Meteorite was really pretty overtop of Press * For Silver, which is definitely a duo I want to repeat. The glitters, namely Superstar Status and Ce-less-tial is More, were gorgeous when applied, but like most glitters, chipped after a day or so.
Overall, for a holiday collection, this one is just alright. OPI has definitely done better in the past. With 18 polishes, it’s an impressive collection, but none of the colours really stick out to me as “you need to buy this!” status.
OPI also offers some of these colours in the GelColor formula. They also have some limited-edition gift sets, which are worth looking into, namely the Constellation Chic set, which includes full-size bottles of An Affair in Red Square, Mod About You, and By the Light of the Moon, as well as Swarovski crystals that you can use to glam up your manicure. I was probably the most excited about this set as Mod About You is my all-time favourite OPI shade. Plus, the fact that it comes with Swarovski gems just makes it way fancier.
This collection is already available in store. Find it online or at OPI authorized retailers.
