Flora and fauna: five fresh spring scents

TITLE
So the weather here in Winnipeg has been ridiculously nice, so much so that it actually feels like spring out (sometimes a rarity for “Winter-peg” as it’s sometimes called). So thus my musky winter fragrances have started to collect some dust and my sweet and floral ones are on regular rotation.

Although my perfume collection has gotten rather large, I chose five scents that are perfect for the season.  Some are oldie, but goodies, and others are brand new for spring.

Valentino Valentina Pink

When I saw the monochromatic hot pink matte bottle complete with a matching camellia, I just about died.  And then I smelled it and metaphorically died again.  This fruity scent by perfumer Daphne Bugey and Fabrice Pellegrin is a rose-fuzz creation, with the freshness of peony, sparkling floral nuances of strawberry and the muskiness of blackberry.  Heart notes include sensual May rose, centifolia rose and ingenious rosebud.  Warm base notes include Cashmeran wood, elegant ambrox and praline.

This scent is hands-down my favourite of the season.  In fact, every time I spray it on I have gotten people asking me what I’m wearing. It is more of a candy-sweet scent, so if that’s not your jam, you may not like it.  One of my favourite fragrances is Viva La Juicy, so if you like that one, you’ll love this.

Eau de parfum spray, 80 ml, C$125. Available for a limited time at Hudson’s Bay, Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques.

Valentino

Yves Rocher Botanical Blue Eau de Toilette

I love Yves Rocher’s summer scents since they are usually very light and airy, so for days when I want something similar to a body spray (aka grab a fragrance and go nuts with it, not being scared that I’m overdoing it in the spray department), this is usually it.

The summer 2015 fragrance is floral and feminine with jasmine absolute and notes of bergamot essence. To be honest, it kinda reminds of the limited edition summer scents that Escada puts out every year (which I always love). The scent is also available as a body wash, so double up for maximum coverage.

75 ml, C$29 at Yves Rocher.

Chloe Eau de Parfum

If you haven’t smelled Chloe yet, you must be living under a rock.  This one is a scent that everyone knows and I think is safe to say has reached iconic status. Although the brand recently released another offspring, I still love the OG the best.

Notes include Pink Peony, Freesia, Lychee, Magnolia Flower, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Honey. I actually wear this one year round since it’s so pretty and light, and typically I’ll sport it for everyday use.

1.7 oz., C$110 at Sephora.ca.

Body Shop

The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Eau de Cologne

New for spring, The Body Shop has released an entire collection based around their Fuji Green Tea scent (full review coming soon!).  This guy is the perfect blend of green tea, bergamot, lemon and mandarin top notes with a floral heart of camellia, jasmine, and violet.

I layer this over the body lotion for the full effect, but you can also wear it alone since it’s so light. Definitely more of a daytime scent, this guy has more of a masculine cologne scent to it, perfect for office hours.

100 ml, C$20 at The Body Shop

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream

Definitely one of the most fitting perfumes for spring based on name alone, Daisy Dream came out last year and is a light and airy fragrance, perfect for a spring day.

Housed in a show-stopping bottle complete with white daisies, this light and airy blue-tinted fragrance has notes of Blackberry, Grapefruit, Pear, Jasmine, Lychee, Blue Wisteria, White Woods, Musks, Coconut Water.

1.7 oz., C$85 at sephora.ca.
