Greige: How to rock this season’s hottest lip colour with Inglot

title

So anyone else utterly obsessed with grey-toned beige lipsticks?! Just like how overalls and chokers are totally back, the ’90s trend definitely has crossed over into cosmetics as well.

I have a few different greige (grey-beige, get it?) colours but Inglot recently sent me two items from their new What A Spice! collection, which is available this fall/winter. The collection features rich browns, reds, and beige-toned colours that are seasonally appropriate.

The lip products they sent over mix old and new, as the colour is so ’90s but it’s also a matte finish. The What A Spice! Matte Lipstick in 442 (C$19) is a brown shade with a hint of grey in it and is totally the most on-trend colour this season. These lipsticks contain Vitamin E, macadamia oil and avocado oil for moisture. With that being said, I did find this lipstick hard to apply since it was quite dry.  I asked Inglot about this (maybe I just got a bad one?) and they insisted that it’s supposed to be like that. This lipstick is super matte, there’s no shine, so unlike a liquid lipstick that dries matte and then tends to flake, this one applies matte to begin with and doesn’t dry out the lips (which is common with matte liquid lipsticks), which is why you really need to apply it with a heavy hand.

To pair with the lipstick, they sent along the What A Spice! Colour Play Lipliner in 321 (C$17).  These lip liners contain shea butter and are long lasting. The lip liner does apply much more creamy and matches the lipstick colour perfectly.  You can also just wear the lip liner by itself since it its quite pigmented and also applies super matte.

Just like other matte liquid lipsticks, I do feel like this lipstick and liner makes my lips look bigger, and the colour and formula is just so flattering when applied. I don’t find the lipstick to be that long lasting, but it could just be the colour since it’s on the darker side. If you plan on eating or drinking, make sure you have this handy since you’ll need to reapply it.

Since the lipstick is such a showstopper, I love pairing this colour with a simple eye look. Go with a deep gel liner to create a winged line and make sure your lashes are look fab. Inglot’s gel liner is a cult classic (in fact, it’s their number-one selling product). In shade 77, the AMC Eyeliner Gel (C$22) contains treated pigments and film formers which insures long-lasting pigmented colour. This eyeliner is incredibly black but you need to be careful when applying it since it’s super creamy.

I absolutely love this look since it’s so simple to achieve, and it’s also perfect for fall. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve worn that lipstick; it’s a must for the season!

Undressed: NYX Cosmetics Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks

title So clearly liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now.  The liquid formula has been around for a while, but the matte liquid lip is really what’s been on every brand’s radar for the past year.

When I think of matte liquid lipsticks, three come to mind: Kylie Lip Kits, Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks, and the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. I have the Kat Von D and the Kylie ones, and both of them are amazing. In addition to those, I have a ton of other formulas from many brands, including the NYX Lip Lingerie.

NYX’s Lip Lingeries are relatively new and they are a weightless liquid lipstick with a matte finish. Available in 12 shades, most of which are nude (get it?), they are an amazing contender for an incredible matte liquid lipstick.

products

So why do I love these so much? Well, they really are weightless. I have a few of the Kylie Lip Kits and although I absolutely love those, they tend to feel heavy after a while (especially if you reapply, which you have to do with the darker shades if you eat), and they tend to ball up and crust away, which gets annoying. These are comfortable to wear (i.e. they don’t really feel like you’re wearing something on your lips) and they aren’t drying at all (major plus).

I received three of the colours, Bedtime Flirt (a red-toned pink), Honeymoon (a grey-toned beige) and Ruffle Trim (cinnamon pink). Bedtime Flirt was the first shade I tried out since I love a lighter pinky-toned nude, and although I thought this one would be my fave of the three, the other two also looked gorgeous when applied. These apply colour in one swipe and look ultra matte, no shine here! Best of all, they retail for C$9, which is a steal considering other matte liquid lips start in the $20 range…

As with any matte lipstick, make sure your lips are moisturized, as the product tends to settle in lines. Overall though, I absolutely love these and totally want to pick up some of the lighter shades. If you’re looking for an affordable version of the matte liquid lip trend, I would definitely consider these as they rival their more expensive counterparts.

Have you tried any of the NYX Lip Lingeries? What is your favourite matte liquid lipstick?

Age reversal: Tria Age-Defying Laser

tria-title Back in the summer I had the chance to try out Ten Skin RX at Ten Spa at the Fort Garry Hotel. Basically what they offer is a laser treatment that works to treat a number of skin conditions courtesy of a SmartPulse light that treats the lower layer of skin. The laser light delivers maximum collagen stimulation and helps to reverse the signs of aging, among other issues (such as removing sun damage and age spots, eliminating acne scars, correcting blemished skin, treating rosacea and vascular facial conditions, and so much more).

The initial treatment at Ten Spa is $89, however, you need to go back multiple times to really get the full benefits. I love the concept of this treatment, however, it can get really pricey. If you were curious about these laser treatments, then lucky for you there is an at-home device that basically does the same thing.

I got the chance to try out the Tria Age-Defying Laser, which also costs a pretty penny, but you’re just paying the one-time cost of C$569.   The laser is an FDA-cleared, at-home non-ablative laser that can be used on the face. It sends targeted beams of light deep within the skin to help support natural collagen production, similar to what Ten Skin RX offers. Think of it this way, your face is a road. When you are born, it’s perfect, however, over time the road starts to break down and there are holes or lines in the concrete. The concrete is essentially the collagen in your face and by using the laser it adds more collagen, thereby filling in the gaps in the holes (AKA wrinkles).

holding-device

According to Tria, you’re supposed to use the laser every night for eight weeks and then take four weeks off for your skin to regenerate. There are three settings on it, low, medium, and high.  Now I have a pretty high pain tolerance in general, however, when I first started using this device, the low setting really hurt. It was more of a stinging sensation than anything. As the weeks went on though my skin got used to the feeling, and pretty soon I couldn’t even feel it. So then I used the medium setting and that started to really sting again. I ended up using the medium setting for the remaining of the eight weeks and didn’t even bother with the high speed as I felt the medium setting was sufficient enough. Also, the higher the setting, the longer the treatment time. So for example, you treat your face in zones and the device will beep when it’s time to move to the next zone. For the low setting, you would spend 30 seconds on the first zone, one minute for the medium setting, and two-and-a-half minutes on the high speed. So not only is the high speed the most painful, but you spend more time treating your face with it.

Overall, the device was super easy to use and it quickly become part of my nighttime routine. As mentioned, you divide your face into four zones, forehead, both cheeks (including around the eye area), and the chin and mouth. To treat each zone, place the laser treatment tip against your face and it will glow purple and make a noise (so you know it’s working – you’ll also feel it), and glide it slowly from side to side to cover the entire zone. Once you’re finished, you skin may look red or tingle, but that’s totally normal. Tria recommends using their Tria Finishing Serum afterwards, but since it’s C$75, really you can use any serum and moisturizer to nourish your skin. They also recommend wearing a sunscreen on your face during the day as well.

After eight weeks time you should notice a difference. Your face is supporting new collagen, and as that forms, fine lines, wrinkles, and imperfections are supposed to go away.

Now I may not be the best candidate to actually try this machine, as I have pretty young-looking skin with no wrinkles or imperfections. Although my before and afters aren’t the most dramatic, I did start to notice how nice my skin was looking after I started to use the machine.  And really, if I can prevent collagen breakdown from happening when I’m young, it will certainly help me out in the long run.

Tria has done their own market research and 76 per cent reported a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes; 95 per cent of users saw smoother skin and reported an improvement in overall appearance; and 87 per cent of users reported that their skin looked more radiant and youthful.

before-and-after

Overall, I think this machine is amazing. I think I would have been more sceptical on it had I not gone to Ten Skin RX for their treatment and really got an understanding of what the laser did. Since I had an actual treatment done professionally, I can vouch that the Tria laser is very similar (they both hurt and the process was essentially the same).

If you are looking into getting professional laser treatments done, I would seriously look into purchasing the Tria Age-Defying Laser as it would be more cost-effective in the long run.  Plus, if you order through Tria’s site, they offer a 90-day guarantee, so if the product doesn’t work for you, they will refund your money, no questions asked.

Have you tried a laser treatment before? What were your thoughts?
