Bestseller: ColourPop and Morphe now available in Canada at Showcase

title

Did you know that ColourPop and Morphe is now sold in Canada?

I know, I was shocked too to hear the news too. Canada’s trend store Showcase now sells select items from both ColourPop and Morphe. Crazy right?!  If you’re not familiar with these brands, they both made names for themselves through various YouTubers and bloggers who put them on the map. Both are based out of LA and offer affordable, quality cosmetics.

Morphe is very well-known for their blushes and eyeshadows, and Showcase has a selection of brushes, brush sets, and some eyeshadow palettes to choose from. The eyeshadow palettes are around the $49 mark, which are about double the US price of them if you were to buy them direct from Morphe’s site. I received the seven-piece rose gold brush set, which includes seven brushes and a faux-leather round hard case to store them.

The brushes included are a blush brush, four eye brushes, a foundation brush, and a contour brush. They feature black handles and rose gold detailing.  This set retails for C$29.99 (was originally $39.99 USD on Morphe’s site, however, it’s now sold out).

The quality on these brushes are very good. Morphe is really well-known for their brushes so I was excited to get to try them out in the flesh. For $30, these are definitely a steal as the quality is really nice and they seem to be very well made. Plus, there’s rose gold detailing… enough said.

Another popular brand they also carry is ColourPop, which if you didn’t know, is made in the same factory as Kylie Cosmetics. ColourPop’s products are pretty reasonably priced, so you can definitely stock up on a lot of items if you order from them direct. Showcase only seems to carry some of their matte liquid lipsticks and glosses, so they don’t have the full collection available.

applicator sookie

Showcase sent me one of their Ultra Glossy Liquid Lipsticks in the colour Sookie, a rich plum that gives you mega shine and amazing coverage. These are quite comfortable to wear and not as sticky as many other glosses. Showcase retails this at C$19.99, whereas you can get it off of ColourPop’s site for $6 USD. Even after the Canadian exchange rate and shipping, it’s probably to order it direct from ColourPop, but if you aren’t one for waiting, it’s nice to know that Showcase carries the line in store. With that being said, the range isn’t that large, my local store had about five or six colours to choose from, so check your nearest Showcase to see their selection.

Like I said, I was shocked and excited to hear that both of these brands are now sold here in Canada exclusively at Showcase. Although it may be cheaper to buy them direct from the brand website, it’s nice to know that there is a local retailer that sells them here in our country. I would definitely look into that Morphe brush set though, as it’s an amazing price for the quality of the brushes and would make a perfect holiday gift.

All that glitters: My top-three highlighters for the holiday season

title Okay we all love a little highlight once in a while.. or everyday.

I have highlighters aplenty, but it seems like this particular beauty item I could have million of and I still get excited to get a new one. I think it all comes to down to just loving shiny things.

I’ve received a few different highlighters this upcoming season and since these products are so in-demand right now I wanted to share my top-three faves as we enter the season.

Make Up For Ever Pro Light Fusion

I was previously obsessed with the highlight in the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo, so I was ecstatic to see they released some new ones for fall. Available in two shades, gold and rose gold (ROSE GOLD!!!!), this highlight’s formula features a unique soft-shimmer gel formula that provides superior blending power to the highlight like a champ, or give skin a natural radiance.

I received the rose gold highlight and just about died when I opened the black compact (it’s the same as really any other Make Up For Ever compact). The colour is just so stunning that I didn’t really want to use it, I just wanted to sit and stare at it’s shimmering glory. The formula contains an ultra-high concentration of emollients generated by a gellyfying system technology, which means that you get a creamy powder with a gel-like texture. It also contains synthetic mica to reflect light and synthetic spherical powders for staying powder and a soft-focus finish.

These retail for C$43, but I have to say that I was slightly let down by the finish of this highlight. I do find the one from the Pro Sculpting Duo to leave you with a more radiant finish, but if you don’t want something so over the top, this would be your jam.  I also want to note that I have layered this over a cream highlight (such as the Mary Kay one I mention below), and it gave me an incredible glow.

Mary Kay Glowing Finish Illuminating Stick

These limited-edition cream highlighting sticks from Mary Kay are seriously worth looking into. Available in two shades, bronze and gold, they are perfect for highlighting and contouring.

They are quite mini in size and unfortunately I can’t find them on the Canadian Mary Kay site, but call your local rep (they are $12 USD) to see if they still have them. Both shades are incredibly creamy and just glide on the skin.  I love using a cream highlight first then layering a powder one overtop for some mega shine.

Too Faced Let It Glow Highlight and Blush Kit

This small holiday set from Too Faced will give anyone some major excitement.

Consisting of a deluxe-size Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo in Rosy Glow, a deluxe Love Flush 16-hour blush in Love Hangover, a deluxe Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer, and the cutest heart-shaped flatbuki brush (which totally reminds me of Polly Pocket), this set is a must for really anyone on your list.

Retailing for C$32, I love this so much because the deluxe sizes of these products are very generous and perfect for travel. It’s also just the cutest little set ever (the box is about the size of my palm).

Highlighters seem to be a pretty popular gift this season with so many brands releasing special-edition palettes and single compacts. I actually received the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow set last year for Hanukkah and still love it a year later. If you’re looking for something to buy a makeup-loving friend this holiday season, highlights are always on point.

What’s your favourite highlighter?

Photo finish: NARS Sarah Moon holiday collection for 2016

nars-title

One of my favourite things about the holiday season is definitely all the special-edition collections and sets that the beauty brands release.

I love stopping by department stores and Sephora to see all these beautiful sets and products, and start making a wish list of all the items I would love to unwrap.

NARS recently released their holiday collection at the beginning of the month and it’s a collaboration with fashion photographer Sarah Moon. This limited edition collection, inspired by iconic cinema, is full of gorgeous items and collectible sets that I’m sure are quickly making their way onto every makeup collector’s wish list.

The collection features four Moon Matte Lipsticks (C$36 each), two blushes (C$38 each), two duo eyeshadows (C$44 each), two kohl liners (C$32 each), two pairs of eyelashes (C$25 each), three nail polishes (C$26 each), and nine gifting sets (prices vary).

nars-cheeks-and-nails

NARS was super bomb and sent over a blush, a nail polish, and one of the sets from this iconic collection to try out and review.

Impudique is a pink red blush, a little darker in tone than their iconic Orgasm and leaning more on the red side than pink. NARS blushes are a must for anyone’s collection and this one in particular is so perfect for winter since it gives you that perfect flushed look.

If you are fair skinned like me, I would recommend applying this with a light hand, since the colour is very bright, and although I love rosy cheeks, you want it looking natural, as opposed to clown-like.  The other blush, Isadora is a lavender pink and I think it would be more suitable for lighter skin, whereas Impudique would look amazing for those with a darker skin tone.

blush-swatch nail-polish-swatch

All three of the nail polishes that NARS has released for this collection are different shades of red. I received La Dame En Noir, a deep burgundy shade. The two other are Never Tamed (geranium) and FlinFlons (pink red).  This was my first foray into NARS nail polishes and I was very happy with the formulation and application. The colour was opaque in one coat, although I did do two just out of habit. The brush is on the wider side, so it’s easy for the colour to coat the whole nail. I used the Formula X base and top coat wth this and the colour lasted almost a week with a few chips here and there.

Red shades are notorious with the holidays, so although this isn’t the most show-stopping colour out there, it’s so seasonally appropriate and would like a fantastic stocking stuffer (let’s be honest, who wouldn’t love a NARS nail polish?!).

All of the packaging for these items have the iconic NARS logo, as well as Sarah Moon name beside it.

nars-set lipsticks-and-mascara

Finally, I got to try out one of the gifting sets.  NARS really went above and beyond with these, not so much for the products, but the packaging.

I got the Get Real Audacious Eye and Lip Set (C$60 at Hudson’s Bay, Holt Renfrew, and Nordstrom), which includes two mini Audacious Lipsticks in Leslie (cherry brown) and Bette (bordeaux), as well as a full-size Black Moon Audacious Mascara. These products come housed in the most beautiful glass box, which features a futuristic photo of a woman in the top of the lid underneath frosted glass. The top comes off and there’s this silver band around the box.

For me, this set isn’t about the products (although they are amazing), but instead about the box. This thing has some major weight to it and is so stunning and well made. Although there are a few different sets in this collection (like a blush palette, eyeshadow palette, lip gloss set, etc.), it looks like there are only three sets which feature a keepsake box of some kind.

NARS is always a good idea if you’re looking for a makeup gift and this set is just so stunning and mature that really any of these items would make anyone’s heart flutter if they received them this holiday season.

Are any items from the NARS x Sarah Moon collection on your list?
