Seashells and smooth lips: Tarte Cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue

If there is one product I always have to have on me at all times, it’s a lip product. Depending on the shade I’m wearing, I’ll often carry that as well as a lip balm since my lips always have the tendency to get dry (I literally have a lip balm in every room of my condo).  I’m not really that picky when it comes to the brand of lip balm, but sometimes I’ll come across one that really blows me away. Right now it’s the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue.

These moisturizing lip balms that come in a variety of different shades (eight to be exact, including a clear), help stop lips from showing the signs of aging while also providing intense nourishment and moisture. There are seven different shades that add a slight tint to your lips and they are also infused with an antioxidant and vitamin-rich lip quencher that contains a blend of essential extracts and oils which keep your lips oh so soft. The product literally glides on your lips and give you an ultra-glossy look, while the feel is somewhat similar to the texture of Vaseline. These are supposed to help restore the appearance of lips softness, moisture, and elasticity that’s reduced over time while providing a protective antioxidant barrier against daily aggressors.

I received four shades of these (I also had one in my collection previously – which I love!), Clear, Buff, Coral, and Cherry. Although the colour looks bold in the tube it’s actually quite sheer, more like a tint than anything. The product literally glides on your lips and is super comfortable to wear. It also lasts on your lips for a long time.

These have a slight mint scent to it so I love rocking these. If you aren’t into colour, definitely pick up the clear one since you can carry it anywhere you go (although the rest of the colours are very sheer, so the colour really isn’t that noticeable). As for the packaging, they come housed in a mermaid-like container which is made of cardboard (so be careful with getting these wet). Since the texture of the balm is so soft, I would definitely recommend not leaving this somewhere that gets too hot since it will melt. Also, since it’s so tender, you may find that you use the product up quite quickly. There really isn’t a lot of balm in the tube (0.10 oz.), so with constant wear (and really, who doesn’t apply a lip balm everyday, even every few hours), you run the risk of running out of this quite fast.

Overall, I love these Quench Lip Rescues. They retail for C$23 each, which is pricey for a lip balm, but if you’re looking for something special and really does the trick of keeping your lips moisturized, I would pick one up.

Have you tried Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescues? What were your thoughts?

#Gofurther150: A Manitoba road trip with the 2017 Ford Escape

The province of Manitoba is well-known for our agriculture economy, flat land, and lots of wheat. But did you know that we have tons of lakes, a vast landscape of trees and hills, and even home to some of the friendliest people in the nation?

This past weekend I got the opportunity to take “Friendly Manitoba” to the next level when I was given the 2017 Ford Escape, a mid-size SUV, on a road trip to Gladstone, Manitoba (about one-and-a-half hours west of Winnipeg) to go see Happy Rock. I’ve actually never heard of the RM of Gladstone previous to Ford Canada asking me to go there, but it turns out that Happy Rock is actually the nickname of Gladstone (makes sense). This cheery guy officially opened on Canada Day 1993 and was even featured on a Canada Post stamp in 2010.

Since Canada turns 150 years old this year, it was awesome to check out what Manitoba has to offer (I’ll be honest, I don’t really travel much in my province, aside from Gimli and Hecla Island), and appreciate all of the Canadian beauty. Myself, as well as two girlfriends, packed up tons of Canada gear, made a sick Canadian Spotify playlist as diverse as the nation’s population (listen here!), and hit the open road in the Ford Escape to go play tourists for a couple days.

The 2017 Ford Escape has been re-engineered with driver feedback in mind. It has enhanced mobile connectivity, two new EcoBoost engines, and the application of fuel-saving auto start-stop technology (meaning that if you’re at a red light the engine will shut off to save gas, kinda like a hybrid vehicle). Not only does it look fresh and slick inside, but the rugged exterior design makes it look like an SUV, even though it’s a smaller version of one.

Driving this guy was a blast as it was super easy to handle and the added safety features made us feel totally safe on the open highway. This vehicle has standard intelligent auto-start/stop and available SYNC 3 technology, standard Blind Spot Information System with cross-trac alert and standard AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. In English, that means that if something got too close to the car it would show on the screen and make a beeping noise. If I wanted to change lanes and there was a car in my blind spot, there was a little light that would turn on in the side mirror telling me to stay put.

Since we hit Happy Rock around 3 p.m. we took advantage of the time we spent driving out there and went a little further up to Riding Mountain National Park and spent a night in Clear Lake. Since Parks Canada has offered all Canadian national parks free admission for the year, we were so excited to spend the night in this quaint Manitoba town situated in the middle of trees and hills, and right on the clearest lake I’ve seen in the province (Manitoba seems to be very literal when they name things apparently).

We stayed at The Lakehouse, a boutique hotel right in the centre of town that gave us all sorts of Canadian vibes, and although it was too windy and cold to go canoeing, it was nice to walk out on the dock and take in all the beauty that our province is home to. All three of us haven’t been to Clear Lake since we were kids so it was bringing back nostalgia and an appreciation for the natural beauty of Manitoba (seriously why don’t I go out there more often).

The second day we spent driving around Riding Mountain National Park and were in awe of all the tall trees and beautiful campgrounds. We had the windows open and the large sunroof back so we could take in all the scents and smells of the park.

Around 3 p.m. we packed up the Ford Escape, which has tons of room in the back for all our bags (in true girl form, we overpacked), and started on our journey home. Although the Escape is classified as an SUV, it certainly does feel more like sedan. It doesn’t feel like you’re driving this massive car.

It was a short trip, but oh so sweet. For someone who travels often, I often forget how beautiful my province is. It was so nice to hit the road and explore all that Manitoba has to offer. The perfect “escape” if you will ;).

Have you driven the 2017 Ford Escape? Also, how much of Manitoba have you visited?

Huge thanks to Ford Canada for letting me drive this guy around for the weekend. Ford Canada also provided me with a prepaid VISA gift card, as well as accommodations, to escape & discover.

Rinse + repeat: Pantene reformulates shampoo to retain more moisture

I feel like if you’re going to buy a drugstore shampoo and conditioner, 80 per cent of the time you’ll choose Pantene. From the vast array of different formulas, to the smell, to just even the nostalgia, Pantene has been a favourite of mine for years. The line always leaves my hair looking and feeling so clean and fresh that I was surprised and excited when they reformulated the shampoos to enhance the moisture level in hair.

So what did Pantene do exactly? Well, they released the biggest haircare innovation in 30 years (since the two-in-one shampoo/conditioner combo I believe). For the first time ever, shampoo alone can penetrate the hair cuticle to replenish lost nutrients and restore the hair follicle. So why should you care? Well, other shampoos coat the surface of the hair with conditioning ingredients, so this new formula goes beyond the hair’s surface to cleanse, repair, and strengthen the hair follicle.  You know how they say not to wash your hair everyday because it strips away natural oils and moisture found in your hair? Well this formula doesn’t do that, meaning that you can wash your hair everyday instead of two to three times a week.

The formula works by the use of lipids that slip under the hair cuticle as you rinse your hair. These replace essential fatty acids that are usually lost when the formula suds up.

Since summer is fast approaching, you may find yourself out more, whether that be soaking in the sun’s rays, going for a bike or run, or even swimming, meaning that you’ll probably wash your hair more often. With the use of this shampoo and conditioner, you can wash your hair after every activity and it will still feel fresh and clean, not dried out or brittle from excessive washing.

The new formula is available across all shampoos, so that means that if you have a favourite line, you can still take advantage of this new formula. I tried out the Daily Moisture Renewal line since my hair has the tendency to get dry at the ends due to working out everyday, curling it, etc. I have noticed that after washing my hair – even just once! – my locks are a lot smoother and shinier (although Pantene is known for infusing hair with some shine). I’ve used a ton of their different lines and always enjoyed the results.  When it comes to drugstore haircare, Pantene has never let me down (and no, I’m not getting paid to say that).

You probably wouldn’t have even realized they changed the formula since it doesn’t look like they are mentioning it on the bottles, but if you give this new and improved Pantene a try, let me know your thoughts! Did you notice a difference?
