Tropical flush: Physician’s Formula Butter collection

I haven’t tried much from Physician’s Formula in the past. After trying their Butter collection goodies, I’m kinda kicking myself that it’s taken me so long.

I was instantly attracted to these drugstore face goodies as soon as I saw them, since a) the word “butter”, and b) the packaging is super cute. This collection consists of three highlighters, a bronzer, and a blush, all of which smell amazing, apply like a dream, and are so creamy and pigmented that they’ll soon become your new favourite makeup items.

Since I’m heading to Miami next week, these products have got me in the mood early (especially since it’s starting to feel like fall here in Winnipeg). These products are infused with a blend of Murumuru butter, Cupuacu butter, and Tacuma butter from the Amazon. Each item also contains essential fatty acids and pro-vitamins that soften, condition, and moisturize skin.

Physician's Formula Butter bronzer and Rose Gold highlighter

As mentioned, the collection contains bronzers, blushes, and highlighters. The bronzer (C$19.99 at London Drugs), comes in four shades: Bronzer, Light Bronzer, Sunkissed Bronzer, and Deep Bronzer. I got the shade Sunkissed, which is an amazing matte bronzer that really gives you that beautiful sun-kissed glow. These products help to moisturize your skin, but the thing I couldn’t help but notice right away was how soft the actual product is. Because of that, the powder just glides on your face, blending perfectly and leaving you with the perfect beachy glow. I have a lot of bronzers in my collection already but I’ll definitely be rotating this one in shortly (I’m almost done my Stila bronzer, so I’m waiting to toss that before digging into another one on the regular).

The Butter blush (C$15.99) comes in four shades: Natural Glow (peach), Plum Rose (plum), Vintage Rouge (coral), and Rosy Pink (bubblegum pink). I have Rosy Pink and absolutely love this pink shade since it provides you with that perfect blushing look. Like the bronzer, the blush is so buttery and creamy and just glides on your cheeks leaving you with the perfect flush. Thanks for the buttery formula it doesn’t go on patchy or chalky, it’s smooth like buttah and so easy and versatile to wear as well.

Physician's Formula butter products

Both the blush and bronzer flip open at the bottom to reveal a mirror and a brush, which to be honest, isn’t the most usable brush (I would call it more like a sponge). The mirror is nice, however, because it has this extra layer, it does make the products to be quite bulky. I want to say throw them in your bag for your tropical vacay, but unfortunately it will take up probably half of your makeup bag.

Finally, for the highlighters (C$15.99), these are available in five shades: Rose Gold, Pink, Champagne, Pearl, and Iridescence. I have the colours Rose Gold, Champagne, and Pearl, and find all of them so flattering and glowy that I have to say that these are even better than some of my luxury highlighters. Out of the three, I love the silver one the most since I find it’s the most flattering on my skin tone. Like the other products, these are cream to powder, and they contain anti-aging peptides and skin-conditioning ingredients that offer hydration. The formula also has peptides, mica, and natural silica, which impart lightweight, soft-focus pigments that smooth the texture of skin for a beautiful glow.

If you couldn’t tell already, but I kinda absolutely love this collection. Along from the cream-to-powder formula which melt into the skin, they also smell amazing, like like shortbread. They are all on the pricier side for drugstore products, but if you can spot them on sale, definitely pick up some items from the line, preferably one of each!

Have you tried anything from the Physician’s Formula Butter line?

A shade for everyone: Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Foundation

Another day, another foundation.

Truth be told, it’s been hard lately deciding which foundation to reach for in the morning (sad story, I know). Lately, it’s been getting much harder since there are so many stellar ones out there. Take for instance Make Up For Ever’s new Matte Velvet Skin full-coverage foundation.

Officially released at the end of July, this foundation, available in a staggering 40 different shades, delivers a matte finish that will last you all day. Housed in a squeeze tube (meaning you control the flow of product), this foundation glides on the skin leaving you with a comfortable shine-free wear that isn’t heavy or cakey. In fact, it feels so natural that you’ll probably forget you’re wearing anything at all.

Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin foundation

The brand gave me the option of choosing a shade and based off their shade chart I chose R230, which actually matched my skin nicely (it’ll look even better as I start to lose some of my summer colour). I have applied this with both a Beauty Blender and a domed foundation brush and it delivers a vibrant skin look almost instantly.

The formula of this foundation includes their innovative Flexi-Fit Complex that allows the lightweight, oil-free formula to bend and breathe with the skin. The amino acid-coated pigments adhere to the skin for long-lasting coverage that really does look flawless and natural on the face.

This foundation retails for C$48, which I find is about average for higher-end foundations. I do like this one better than their Ultra HD, which everyone seems to rave about (I just it doesn’t wow my skin – if that makes sense). I really loved how this made my skin look and feel (especially the feel part since it dries down nicely and doesn’t feel heavy). Next time you’re in Sephora I would definitely make sure you check this foundation out and even ask for a sample of it. I’m sure you’ll love it!

Cleansed and perfect: Vichy Aqualia Thermal and Purete Thermal products

I get to try out a lot of different skincare.

Although I used to be more brand conscious, as of right now, as long as it works for my skin, it doesn’t matter what the brand is or the price point.  I rotate out products every few months as I use them up, and always get so excited to receive new stuff from brands I don’t use on a regular basis.

Enter Vichy.

I’ve tried out stuff from Vichy in the past, but when they sent over some of their Purete Thermal goodies, I whipped them out that evening for use. Although they have tons of body care and skincare lines and products, I was really intrigued by the claims on the five items they sent my way.

Vichy Purete Thermale Makeup Removing Micellar Cleansing Wipes and cleanser

First up were the Purete Thermale Makeup Removing Micellar Cleansing Wipes. I always use a micellar solution to remove my makeup since I find it does an awesome job of removing makeup efficiently and effectively.  Although I tend to use a solution and a cotton round, I do like using wipes every so often, my only real qualm with them being that they don’t last as long as a liquid product. These wipes are billed to instantly cleanse in one step. They remove impurities and makeup from the face, eye, lip, and even waterproof makeup. The formula includes Vitamin E to sooth and refresh skin. These actually do a pretty good job of removing makeup, although I don’t believe the waterproof claim. My makeup came off relatively easy with these and it was nice to wipe my face down with this prior to my cleanser (usually I just wipe my eyes with a makeup remover rather than my whole face).

These retail for C$14.97 and I would totally recommend them. They are on the pricey side for 25 wipes, so I wouldn’t use these every day, but for days where my makeup is little more done up than usual, these would be good to bust out.

Once my makeup is off, I’ve been reaching for the Purete Thermale Cleansing Gel. I’m gonna say it right here, I love this stuff. I pair it with my FOREO Luna and it lathers up into the most incredible cleanser that really does prep my face for the rest of my skincare.  This retails for C$26 and the cool part about it is that it cleanses away all impurities and pollution residue for soft and radiant skin.  Now I know what you may be thinking, pollution residue? I didn’t think this was truly a thing (hello, I live in Winnipeg), but after going to New York for a couple days this past May, my skin got so bumpy and irritated from the air pollution that this definitely would have come in handy (I’m going to do a whole separate post about that coming soon).

This cleanser contains a Purisoft technology that includes moringa seed extract, which cleanses all impurities, including pollution particles, dust, and excess sebum. It also reduces the effects of hard water on the skin. The gel foams up nicely and really delivers a deep clean on the skin, removing it of all dirt, makeup, oil, etc. I love this cleanser and highly recommend it.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Hydrating Serum, Purete Thermale Cleanser, Aqualia Thermale Rehydrating Water Gel, and Mineral 89 serum

After I use my toner and eye cream, I’ve been grabbing the Aqualia Thermal Hydrating Serum   (C$42.95), which is a serum that recharges dry and dehydrated skin with intense hydration. The serum has 97 per cent naturally-derived ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, fortifying Vichy mineralizing water, and plant sugar mannose, leaving skin feeling hydrated for up to 48 hours, even under environmental stresses or pollution.

After applying that serum I reach for the Aqualia Thermal Rehydrating Water Gel (C$39.95), which is a gel moisturizer that transforms dry and dehydrated skin with intense hydrating. It also has 97 per cent naturally derived ingredients, including the same things as the serum. This moisturizer leaves your skin looking fresh and it feels comfortable and hydrated. I don’t usually reach for a gel moisturizer, but I don’t mind this one. It applies really nice on the skin, gliding on your face and then absorbing quickly.

Finally, to end the skincare routine, I reach for the Vichy Mineral 89 serum (C$39.95), which is  a pure and powerful formula that is concentrated with 89 per cent Vichy Mineralizing Thermal water from French volcanos and associated with natural hyaluronic acid. This serum hydrates and strengthens skin, protecting it against daily aggressors like weather changes, stress, fatigue, and pollution. After regular use, dull, damaged skin is hydrated, plumped, fortified, and quenched for a healthy glow.

Vichy recommends using this daily for best results. I’m actually surprised by how reasonably priced this product is as it is very popular and does amazing things on your skin. In the line up of products, Vichy does recommend using this after your cleanser to fortify your skin, so I guess it would replace a toner, however, I’ve been using it after my moisturizer as a last step and have been enjoying how it makes my skin look and feel once my skincare routine is over.

I’ve used Vichy products in the past and have always been impressed with their stuff. I have a few more in my collection that I haven’t even had the chance to try out yet (I seriously have so much skincare to get through), but when I received for these products I couldn’t help myself, I had to bust these out and give them a try right away. I’m glad I did since I found some all-stars in here and compared to other brands and the prices on these are amazing.
