Anyone else ever not wear mascara because it can be so hard to remove sometimes?
Removing mascara can be a royal pain at times and depending on the formula, I’ve definitely gone to bed before with a little bit of mascara still on my lashes. I mean really, who has time to fully remove their mascara? I just assume it’ll get off eventually.
Anyways, this brings me to today’s post where Maybelline has come to the rescue for lazy girls like me. Their new mascara, Snapscara (C$7.96), was released late last year and promises to come off easily with just water. Now that’s a pretty far claim considering if you want major volume and separation with your mascara I would assume that it would bond onto your lashes. Right?
Snapscara is promised to deliver smooth, clump-free volume when you apply it and come off in a snap when you remove it (get it?). It’s perfect for sensitive eyes since you don’t have to rub or tug at your lashes. This mascara is the brand’s first pigmented wax-free mascara that is a zero-clump formula that applies smoothly and plumps up and defines lashes.
Okay, so does it actually do what it claims. Yes. I was literally shocked to see how easy it was to remove this mascara, considering how much volume, separation and length you get when you apply it. Snapscara gives you feathery soft lashes that look natural thanks to its tapered curve brush, which allows you to fully hug the shape of your eyelids. You can also layer a few coats on to really pump up the volume, but considering how easy this is to take off, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
If black mascara isn’t your jam, Snapscara also comes in three other shades; Deja Blue, Ultra Violet, and Black Cherry (deep burgundy). I’m a basic B so I love black, but I am partial to a burgundy mascara to make my blue eyes pop on occasion.
I think this is a great mascara to have in your collection, especially for lazy days where you want to do makeup but dread that wash off before bed (hey, we’ve all been there). Plus, the fact that it actually makes your lashes look amazing is just the black cherry on the cake (see what I did there?).

I used to get so excited to learn what the Pantone Color of the Year was every year.
In case you aren’t familiar with the whole Color of the Year thing, Pantone is the global authority on colour standards and digital solutions for the design industry and each year they comb the world looking for new colour influences which ends up influencing product develop and purchasing decisions from a variety of industries, including fashion, home furnishing, and industrial design.
Although I haven’t really paid much attention to the announcements for the past few years (I mean, really, the colour of the year for me has been Millennial Pink for like two years now), I did make a note to take a look to see what it would be for 2019. And this year my friends, it’s Living Coral.
Living Coral is described by Pantone as an animating and life-affirming shade of orange with golden undertone. Just as coral reefs as a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral embraces with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.
The Color of the Year will influence a number of industries this year, including the beauty world. Pantone says “as a life-affirming hue that complements all skin tones, PANTONE Living Coral brings natural color to beauty in blush, eye and lip. Uninhibited, playful looks are also emboldened by Living Coral, which, as the centre of a kaleidoscope of colour, encourages experimentation in beauty with palettes, textures, shimmers and sheens.”
Anyways, this brings us to today’s post since coral is a colour that I often play around with when it comes to makeup. Since it’s such a versatile shade, you can really wear it so many different ways. From the eyes to the lips to the cheeks, coral complements so many different skin tones and you can either wear it dramatically or faintly.
So let’s get to it, here are my top picks to rock Living Coral this year.
On the cheeks…
Coral is such an easy shade to sport on the cheeks and I find it’s more flattering for my skin tone than a blush-tied shade would be. It’s faint enough for a quick flush or you can layer it up for that punch of colour.
If you’re looking for a versatile blush, then take a look at Fenty Beauty’s Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in the shade Ridiiic (C$31), which is a golden papaya shade (but leans more towards a bright orange). This cream brush, housed in a magnetized case, gives you long wear and a lightweight finish. I love how you can really customize the colour; wear it lightly for a flush, or pack it on for a full-blown look. The formula is also cream to powder, meaning that it sets into skin nicely and doesn’t budge. They are meant to be layered, so you could grab Trippin, a gold-glazed apricot, to really play up the whole Living Coral look.
On the lips…
Another Fenty Beauty product, the Mattemoiselle lipstick in the colour Single (C$23) is described as a blushing nude, so it’s definitely a cool way to wear the shade without being totally obvious that you’re wearing it. I actually reviewed these a couple weeks ago on the blog and love how they are so slim and compact that they easily fit into even the smallest of purses. They also feature a soft matte finish that is comfortable to wear and packs a pop of colour.
If you want something a little more punchy, take a look at Up 2 No Good, a nude peach shade that will totally embody the essence of Living Coral if you want to be obvious you’re trying to rock it.
On the eyes…
You guys know I use orange shades a lot as my transition colour, so this was easy to find in my collection of shadows. If you are totally looking to completely embrace the shade this year, then you must pick up Huda Beauty’s Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Coral (C$35). This palette houses nine shadows that are complementary coral shades in matte and shimmer formulas. The shades in here range from burnt orange and dusty pink to brown and shimmery pink.
Other star palettes to consider would be Too Faced’s Sweet Peach palettes and CoverGirl’s Peach Punch palette.
For the skin…
Okay so technically this one doesn’t actually add Living Coral to your skin or anything, but the packaging on this is the prettiest shade of pink/coral that it would look amazing on your countertop and help you embrace the colour this year.
New from Lierac Paris, the Supra Radiance line includes five skincare products that are designed to regenerate skin’s radiance and provide anti-aging benefits. Since it leans on the orange and pink sides of the spectrum, you can sport the shade a ton of ways. Wear a little coral lip or dab some of that colour on the cheeks. Or you know, just find pretty bottles that are the shade and proudly display them ;).

Okay, let’s talk mascaras for a second here.
You guys know I’ve tried out a million mascaras (figuratively speaking), and when it comes to drugstore I have always loved what CoverGirl has released. My favourite mascara of all time is Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, however, ever since L’Oreal Paris came out with Lash Paradise, that one has rivalled my beloved Too Faced since it gives you similar-looking lashes at a fraction of the price.
Since Lash Paradise has been doing so well, many other brands have come out with a similar hourglass-shaped brush to hop on the bandwagon, and since I received a couple mascaras late last year that had these kinds of brushes, I figured I would pool them together in one post.
Okay, so let’s get down to it.
Up for the lash challenge today is Covergirl’s new mascara, Exhibitionist, and Marc Jacobs Beauty Major Volume Mascara. One of these is luxury brand and the other is drugstore. But how do they compare?
I’ve always been a huge fan of every mascara CoverGirl has released, so upon seeing the brush on this bad boy, I knew I was going to like it. Exhibitionist promises show-stopping volume, leaving you with lashes that are full and defined after one coat. The brand says that this mascara performs similar to a $25 one (this retails for C$9.97) with 10x more volume.
The formula on this mascara applies smoothly onto lashes and leaves them soft with no flaking or smudging. Thanks to the hourglass-shaped brush, the mascara leaves your lashes looking long and separated.
So my thoughts on this mascara? Well some days I think it’s amazing and other days it just doesn’t cut it for me. I find that this mascara works best when my lashes are bone dry and I use a lash curler. I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite CoverGirl mascara, and in terms of battle of the drugstore mascaras, I would still say Lash Paradise wins in terms of making my lashes look long. This one also does the trick, but there is something about Lash Paradise that just takes your lashes to the next level (and if you pair it with the primer, then oh my god, you have lashes for days honey).
Moving on to a higher-priced mascara, I’ve actually been using Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume pretty much non-stop (and for those days I don’t use it, I use the CoverGirl one) since I got it. I’m going to start off by saying that I absolutely hated Marc Jacobs Beauty’s mascaras when they first came out. His original mascara did absolutely nothing for my lashes, but since the brand has been around for a while since that time, it looks like thy’ve definitely stepped up their mascara game.
The Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara (C$33) is an ultra-volumizing mascara that elongates lashes and makes them appear thicker and fuller. The brush is hourglass shaped, allowing you to coat even the smallest, hard-to-reach lashes. The formula is ultra black and has the Flash Volume Complex, which creates instant, smudge-proof length and volume.
i absolutely adore this mascara and definitely think it is worth the hefty price tag (although to be honest, I thought this one would be more than C$33). I think that this mascara just gives you those lashes that look full, dark, and luscious, which is always the look I’m going for. In fact, I think it’s actually tough for me to say which one I love better, this one or Too Faced BTS since it’s that good.
I feel like in the swatches the two mascaras look similar with the Marc Jacobs Beauty one maybe making my lashes look a touch longer. In fact, it just dawned on me that I should probably try them together, I would most likely have out-of-this-world lashes.
Overall, I think that if you love Lash Paradise but are looking for something to switch it up, you may love CoverGirl’s Exhibitionist mascara more. Really, it all comes down to each individual’s lashes since we are all so different. I think it’s a good dupe, and for $10, you really can’t go wrong giving it a try.
As for Marc Jacobs Beauty, well girl, you will not be disappointed with the Velvet Noir mascara. It’s all that and a bag of chips.
