Skincare & smooth skin: Mary Kay TimeWise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation

I’ve been trying out a lot of different foundations lately.

Although most foundations work for me and my skin type/tone, I am pretty picky on how they make my skin look and feel. I have casual foundations, I have daytime foundations, nighttime foundations, special occasion foundations, foundations that make my skin look great in photos, etc.. you get the point.

Anyways, when I saw that Mary Kay Cosmetics launched a new foundation, I was super intrigued since it’s part of their TimeWise line, which I really like using as skincare. The TimeWise 3D Matte Foundation (C$28) is a matte foundation that is designed to give you 12 hours of wear and is supposed to feel weightless and look natural.

Available in 28 shades, this foundation is infused with their exclusive Age Minimize 3D Complex, which includes encapsulated resveratrol, dual-benefit vitamin B3, and an age-defying peptide to help defend and deliver beautiful skin.  Think of it like skincare but with coverage.  The formula is also designed to deliver 12 hours of oil control and the microspheres in it act like a sponge to absorb oil.  It blends seamlessly into your skin to give you a weightless feel with medium coverage.

Mary Kay sent me three shades to try out, Beige C 110, Beige N 150, Beige C 170. Truthfully, I found them all to suit my skin tone. This foundation is very lightweight and has a light to medium finish. I would say this is a good everyday foundation, however, if I was going a little more glam, I would pick something that gives my skin a more radiant finish and a more perfect complexion.

Mary Kay also sent along their new brush to apply the foundation with, the Mary Kay Blending Brush (C$20), which is an Artis brush dupe. This brush allows you to essentially paint and buff the foundation onto your skin since it features dense soft bristles that really allow you to seamlessly blend the foundation onto your skin.

I actually really liked this brush more than I thought I would. I have another one of these that I got in the Philippines and I found it did an okay job. This one is really study, allowing you to easily buff in product.

Finally, to complete the look, take a look at Mary Kay’s new summer-appropriate lipstick, the limited-edition Matte Lipstick in Paparazzi Pink (C$20). This bright pink lipstick is the perfect accessory to sport on a summer night. When you first look at this lipstick in the tube it does look fuchsia, however, I found it applied more like a hot pink and I instantly fell in love with the colour.  I also want to note that $1 from every lipstick sold in this shade goes towards the Mary Kay Ash Foundation, which supports women and children across Canada. Total win-win!

Overall, I liked these products but I didn’t find them to stand out (aside from the lipstick).  They do the trick and if you love the Mary Kay TimeWise line already I think you will really love the foundation. I appreciate how they took a popular skincare line and added something that will make you enjoy those benefits all day, everyday.

Are you excited to try the new Mary Kay TimeWise 3D Foundation?

Pretty in pink: Rimmel London Wonder’Luxe Volume mascara

I feel like if you were to ask me what is the one product Rimmel London is known for, it would be mascara.

Don’t get me wrong, the British beauty brand is known for a lot of their items, from foundations to lipsticks, but it seems like they are always coming out with a new member to their mascara family. Which brings us to today’s post.

Rimmel London Wonder'Luxe Volume mascara Rimmel London Wonder'Luxe Volume mascara wand

Launching this month, the Rimmel London Wonder’Luxe Volume mascara comes housed in the most beautiful chrome rose gold packaging that is designed to give your lashes volume and nourishment.

The formula is infused with four oils, argan oil, maracuja oil, marula oil, and camellia oil to hydrate and condition lashes. The brush on this mascara is a fan brush designed to comb through lashes and make them look long, clump free, and separated. It’s available in three shades, black, extreme black, and waterproof extreme black.

I was really pumped to a) receive this mascara since it’s sooo pretty, and b) try it out, since for the most part I’ve always had good experiences with Rimmel’s mascaras. Although the wand is more like a comb, it doesn’t have very long bristles, so I found that it didn’t make my lashes look as voluminous as I would have liked.

In terms of Rimmel’s mascaras, I definitely think the ScandalEyes mascaras work better for me and my lashes. This one did an okay job and I expected it to work better than it does.  It does an okay job, but not anything where you would ask me if I’m wearing falsies. With that being said, I’m still partial to using it since the packaging is so cute and I’m such a sucker for good branding. I think that layered with other mascaras it will perform better, but overall I would grab one of the brand’s other formulas over this one.

Have you tried any Rimmel mascaras? What are your favourites?

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Summer 2019 Neons collection

When it comes to nail polish colours and summertime, I like to go bright.

I love a great neon, but very rarely will I come across a colour, or a collection, where the neon actually pops.  The brand can say it’s neon, but unless it’s bright enough to hurt my eyes, it ain’t neon.

Pretty much the only line I have come across who has actually done neon properly has been China Glaze. Then Sally Hansen came out with the neon collection of my dreams.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Summer 2019 Neon collection

Sally Hansen’s summer 2019 Miracle Gel collection (C$12.99 each) is filled with six neon shades in hot pink, coral, blue, lime, yellow, and purple. Their Miracle Gel line is a two-step process where the colour actually has a base coat built in, then you top it with their topcoat which gives you mega shine and long wear. For this particular collection, because you want these colours looking bright, layer them over a white colour to really make them pop. Sally Hansen sent along the shade Get Mod to help them reach their brightest potential.

When it comes to this collection, it’s hard picking a favourite, but the most unique colours and true neons (in terms of bright colours that I haven’t seen before) is Fuchsia Fever, Lemon-Chillo, and Electri-Lime. The three other colours (the blue, coral, and purple) I find have easily been done before without the need for the white underneath.

Since these shades are bright, they are a little on the thin side.  I found for the yellow, coral, and green three coats did a good job of making the colour look opaque over top of the white. As for wear, they held up pretty well, but I did experience some chipping, mostly because I have thin nails that tend to peel. Overall though, I absolutely adore this collection.

Neon is a fashion trend right now and if you are too scared to sport a highlighter yellow top, then I would definitely look into trying it on your nails instead. Sally Hansen also has a Miracle Gel matte topcoat if you want to sport these bad boys without the shine.  I don’t recommend picking up just one colour, I truly believe that you need all of them in your collection.

Are you into neons this season?
