I know, I know.. the skincare world nowadays can be kind of scary. There are so many items out there that it can be hard to distinguish what exactly you need.
When it comes to my core items, I use a cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum, and moisturizer. Now with that being said, I have my daytime products and my nighttime products. Clearly I get a lot of skincare items, so this is the easiest way for me to actually use these items, but when it comes to moisturizers, I like to use something thicker at night.
When I was away in Montreal I actually received a lot of nighttime moisturizers, which came at the right time considering how cold it’s getting and the importance to put on something thicker when you sleep. You want to hydrate your skin all night long so if you are looking for some great moisturizers to sleep in, then keep reading..
Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial
When it comes to my favourite skincare brands, Drunk Elephant is definitely high on the list.
I’ve used a bunch of their products so whenever I see they release a new one, I need to get my hands and face on it.
The F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial (C$68) is an overnight mask that plumps and restores skin with electrolytes that also help to strengthen the skin’s acid mantle.
The formula includes niacinamide, sodium PCA, plant squalene, five forms of ceramides, omega fatty acids, and antioxidants. If also features tiny beads that are full of Vitamin F. It helps to restore moisture to dry skin, as well as soothe skin and improve the signs of damage, aging, uneven tone, and texture.
Apply a few pumps of this to your skin at night to wake up with hydrated skin.
Neostrata Overnight Anti-Pollution Treatment
Since skin renewal happens when you sleep, it’s important to give your skin some TLC before you go to bed.
Neostrata’s newest nighttime moisturizer, the Overnight Anti-Pollution Treatment (C$58) is designed to target lack of radiance, rough texture, and stressed skin that are caused by pollution and daily aggressors, all while you get your beauty sleep.
The formula contains Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs) to help minimize the visible damage from daily pollutants, as well as lilac plant cell extract in an amino acid hydration formula that will give you a restored appearance and prepares skin for the day ahead.
Skinceuticals Glycolic Brightening Renew Overnight Cream
Skinceuticals is another favourite skincare line of mine so whenever they release new products, I instantly get excited.
The Skinceuticals Glycolic Brightening Renew Overnight Cream (C$110) is their newest launch and it is designed to be incorporated into your nighttime routine gradually.
This cream is formulated with a free acid value of four per cent glycolic acid to dissolve cellular cohesions and promote cell turnover. It also has two per cent phytic acid to promote skin clarity and brightness. Apply this to your skin to wake up with more even skin texture and tone, as well as brighter, more youthful-looking skin.
Skinceuticals also says you can use this after a chemical peel, professional brightening, or clarifying treatment as it will act complementary to those services.
Start gradually with this, limited use to every other evening and then after one week you can apply every night. It’s also important to apply a sunscreen in your daytime routine the morning after use.
DermaE Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Overnight Facial and Hydrating Eye Cream
If you often wake up with puffy skin, then take a look at DermaE’s Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Overnight Facial (C$24.64).
This gel moisturizer is filled with hyaluronic acid to moisturize, as well as alkaline to boost your natural moisture barrier, replenish pH levels, and nourish skin as you sleep. This mask also contains Alkaline water beads that melt into your skin when they hit it so you can wake up well-rested, balanced, and radiant.
Pair this mask with their Hydrating Eye Cream (C$30.59). I always use an eye cream day and night and if you don’t have one already, then I seriously recommend you invest in one.
Apply this cream to your eye area morning and night to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, as well as hydrate the area. This eye cream also contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate, soften, smooth, and tone skin. It also contains antioxidants Pycnogenol, green tea, jojoba oil, and Vitamins A, C, and E to nourish, hydrate, and de-puff the delicate eye area and keep it looking radiant and young.
As we head into the chillier months, I do recommend looking into investing in a moisturizer specifically for nighttime use. You don’t have to run out and buy one right now but as you finish up your favourite moisturizer, maybe just keep this in mind as you shop for some new ones to replace it.
Do you use a different moisturizer specifically for night?

You guys know how I feel about lip gloss. And in case you don’t, it’s not my favourite beauty product.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the look of them, and for the most part, I like the feel of the majority of them and how they hydrate the lips. What I don’t love is how they attract everything. Ever walked outside when it’s windy and your hair is down? Do you have a fluffy dog that sheds a lot? We’ve all been there.
Mary Kay also understood the struggle of lip gloss, so they came up with a brand-new formula.
The Mary Kay Unlimited Lip Gloss (C$18) is unlike your stereotypical sticky, messy lip gloss. Instead, they came out with an ultra-silky formula that doesn’t feel heavy, gloopy, or overly sticky.
This launch is huge for Mary Kay and they released 14 different shades in three formulas cream, pearl, and shimmer. Some shades are more sheer than others with the more bold ones going on quite pigmented for a gloss.
Mary Kay sent me all 14 shades and first thing, I was very impressed with the shade range and the finishes. Some have more of that iridescent shimmery finish, whereas other are silky, shiny and have that milky colour that really is quite stunning.
Like Mary Kay says, these aren’t your typical lip gloss in terms of formula. Since it is a gloss, there is a bit of stickiness in them, but it feels more like a moisturized balm rather than a traditional gloss.
The applicator on these bad boys is a doe-foot applicator with a bit of a groove to it so they hug your lips while applying the product. The applicator fits the shape of your lips perfectly, so it’s a really nice application.
Considering I’m not really a gloss girl, I really like these and love that Mary Kay came out with a comfortable lipgloss. I will say it’s a little bit of bad timing considering the constant use of masks we have to wear nowadays, but I have been reaching for some of the more shimmery ones and applying them on my lips to add some moisture while I’m working from home.
If you’re planning on making a Mary Kay order soon, I would recommend tossing one of these in your carts as well.
Are you a huge lip gloss person?

Get ready for a lot of skincare posts.
Okay, so when I was away in Montreal I got a lot of packages and the majority of them were skincare. Since I only have one face, it’ll take me a while to get through a lot of it, but I’m really excited to try it all and share these products with you.
Since the weather is getting chillier, it’s time to start thinking about switching up your skincare routine for more heavy-duty products to ensure your face looks glowy and nourished in the months ahead.
So if you’re on the hunt for some new all-stars, keep reading…
CeraVe Hydrating Cleaner and Foaming Facial Cleanser
Okay, so first off, everyone and their mom raves about CeraVe products. I’ve seen these cleansers all over social media and although the packaging is very pharmaceutical and it’s a drugstore line, I wouldn’t pass on these (if you can find them, they are often sold out!).
The brand was developed in 2005 after CeraVe’s dermatologists developed a line of skincare products that are enriched with a blend of three essential ceramides (1, 3 and 6-II), as well as fatty acids, and other lipids which help to repair and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier.
The Foaming Facial Cleanser (C$17.99) is targeted for normal to oily skin and is designed to remove excess oil, dirt, and makeup. It’s a gentle cleanser that won’t over-strip the skin, leave it feeling tight or dry. In addition to ceramides, it also includes hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to restore the skin’s barrier, retain hydration and soothe the skin.
The formula of this cleanser is gel-based that foams up nicely to cleanse the skin, prepping it for the rest of your skincare routine.
If you have normal to dry skin, then try CeraVe’s Hydrating Facial Cleanser (C$16.99), which cleanses the skin and refreshes it without over-stripping it or leaving it feeling tight or dry. This cleanser also contains three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid to help restore the skin’s barrier and retain hydration. It also has the brand’s time-release MVE Delivery Technology for all-day hydration.
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Eye Sheet Mask
I love the Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Masks (C$2.98 each), so when I got their new Moisture Bomb Eye Sheet Masks, I couldn’t wait to try them out.
These sheet masks are a cooling, hydrating sheet eye mask that has hyaluronic acid serum and other ingredients to help reduce the look of eye bags and brighten the eye area.
Garnier sent me their two “flavours”, coconut water + hyaluronic acid and orange juice + hyaluronic acid, which are both designed to target different concerns.
The orange juice one is designed to reduce eye bags and dark circles. The hyaluronic acid hydrates the eye area, and the orange juice, which has Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and minerals, helps to tame puffiness.
The coconut water flavour is designed to reduce eye puffiness and visibly smooth lines. Apply this to the eye area for a boost of hydration and freshness. The coconut water helps to smooth lines and plump up the under eye.
Both of these masks have an instant cooling effect with a -4 degree Celsius temperature decrease on the skin after 15 minutes. For an extra special treat, pop these in a fridge for a more cooling effect.
Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash and Rose Floral Toner
I love the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser a lot, so when I saw they released a limited-edition Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash (C$42) I couldn’t wait to try it.
This cleanser contains a blend of white sugar crystals to help exfoliate skin, as well as strawberry and black currant fruit extracts to maintain a healthy-looking complexion. This cleanser is a real treat since it smells amazing and since the exfoliating part is made of sugar, it’s very gentle and melts into the skin.
This cleanser is ideal for all types of skin and is targeted for oiliness, dryness, dullness, and uneven texture. It will help to remove impurities and excess oil without drying the skin. It also refines the look of pores for smooth skin.
I really like this cleanser since it exfoliates the skin without any harsh ingredients, plus the strawberry makes it super pleasant to apply (you’ll almost want to eat it).
Pair the cleanser with their Rose Floral Toner (C$53), which is an alcohol-free toner and setting spray that delivers hydration, prepping your skin for the rest of your skincare routine.
This toner is made with pure rosewater and is suitable for all skin types to help calm skin and target dryness, dullness, and uneven texture. Spray this on after your cleanser, after your moisturizer, or even over makeup to help set it. Need a mid-day pick me up? Yeah, you can use it for that too.
You can either use this toner as a spray or apply it to a cotton round and apply directly on the face. It’s a nice refreshing treat to have in your collection.
I’ll be chatting more skincare in the coming days, but in the meantime these are all prime products to keep in mind when looking for new items for the chillier months.
What’s on your skincare hit list for September?
