The Lash Diaries: Rimmel London ScandalEyes Lycra Flex mascara

So if you haven’t figured by my last two posts, Rimmel London has been going ScandalEyes crazy, releasing three new formulas to the original favourite.  I wasn’t blown away by the first two that I tried (the waterproof and Curve Alert versions) but I was quite interested in this one.

The black giant tube didn’t grab me at first (that’s why I tried the other two orange ones first), but after giving this one a try, I think I actually like this better than it’s counterparts.

ScandalEyes Lycra Flex has the same signature giant brush which is something that I consistently didn’t like with the ScandalEyes mascaras I have tried thus far.  The product gets all over my lids whenever I coat my lashes with this wand.  Other features it boasts is a flexible formula with Lycra technology and makes lashes full and voluptuous (not still or brittle).  I was a little intrigued with the whole Lycra thing as isn’t Lycra something they add to fabric to make it stretchy?  So by adding Lycra to a mascara, would it make your lashes stretch?  I was quick to find out.

No mascara, curled lashes

One coat.

Two coats

In terms of adding length and volume, this mascara, in my opinion, did neither.  It beautifully coated my lashes so they look darker, but it didn’t do much in terms of those “added value” extras.  The thing that I do love about this mascara is that your lashes don’t feel hard or crunchy; they feel soft, like you aren’t wearing any mascara at all.

I highly recommend this mascara if you are looking for just a base mascara — you want to add something on your lashes so it adds some oomph to your eyes.  This is what I would call a “Sunday mascara”, I typically just wear BB Cream and mascara on Sundays, something low-key and easy to throw on, not really glam.  I’m sure that if you really load this mascara on it would look a lot more voluminous and eye-catching, but I don’t typically use more than two coats.

I do want to say though that I find these are great mascaras to layer.  I was doing a friend’s makeup yesterday and used YSL’s Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking with Rimmel’s ScandalEyes Curve Alert on top and it really created a nice look, her lashes looked voluminous and long.

Have you tried Rimmel London’s ScandalEyes Lycra Flex mascara?  If so, leave me your thoughts below.

The Lash Diaries: Rimmel London ScandalEyes Curve Alert mascara

Full curves ahead!

I received Rimmel London’s new addition to their ScandalEyes line, Curve Alert, last week and although I have never tried the original formula I was excited to give this bad boy a try.

Rimmel was gracious to send along their three new ScandalEyes products, the waterproof version, Curve Alert, and Flex, and I was quick to grab Curve Alert because I mean, who doesn’t want dangerously long lashes.  The product also has a  triple collagen and keratin formula to plump lashes while strengthening and hydrating for long-term lash health.

Curve Alert boasts ScandalEyes’ signature gigantic brush, but in a curved shape to better coat your lashes and add some volume.  Like the waterproof version of the original, I just found the brush way too big for my eyes, so much so that I had to wipe away the excess product that got on my lids.

No mascara, curled lashes

Two coats

I used two coats of the product and to be honest, like the waterproof edition, I just didn’t find this mascara to be anything too special.  Maybe because the brush is too big (although I have always loved Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash which also features a big brush) for my eyes, or maybe I’m just spoiled by the way that my beloved YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking mascara makes my lashes look, I don’t know, this product just didn’t blow me away.  Compared to it’s waterproof counterpart, I do like this one better and I will keep using it.  It wasn’t terrible on my lashes, I just wished that it gave me more oomph.

Rimmel London’s Volume Flash ScandalEyes Curve Alert mascara will be available in August 2012 in Canada.  Let me know if you have tried the original ScandalEyes and what your thoughts are on the product!

The Lash Diaries: Rimmel London Volume Flash ScandalEyes Waterproof Mascara

Scandalous eyes under water?  Rimmel London has a solution for that.

I was in the need for a waterproof mascara for my upcoming Vegas trip so I was super excited to receive the new Volume Flash ScandalEyes Waterproof Mascara.  I haven’t tried Rimmel’s ScandalEyes before but I really did like Rimmel’s Volume Accelerator mascara so I thought I would enjoy this one as well.

The brush for this mascara is absolutely huge, it actually reminded me of a bumblebee because it’s so big and fluffy.  Plus, no lie, I’m pretty sure it’s the size of my eye.  Now because the brush is so huge I found that I got a lot of product on my lids, which I then had to wipe away.

No mascara. Curled lashes

One coat

Two coats

I’ll be honest, this mascara didn’t really leave my lashes looking scandalous or anything; they didn’t look any longer or thicker.  As for waterproof factor, this stuff does stay on after a day at the pool and under the sun.  I’ve never been a fan of waterproof mascara because it’s so darn hard to remove at the end of the day, but you can be rest assured that this will stay on your lashes after some water activity.

Would I recommend this mascara?  If you are looking for an affordable waterproof mascara, then yes.  If you want something that makes your lashes look longer and thicker, then no.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate this mascara, I just don’t think it did much for my lashes, I mean it’s no YSL Faux Cils, but then again you are paying a a quarter of the price for this one (C$7.99).  I do plan on wearing this every time I head to the beach or pool and it does stay on your lashes without flaking so it is a good waterproof mascara.

Rimmel London’s Volume Flash ScandalEyes Waterproof Mascara will be available in August 2012 in Canada.  Let me know if you have tried the original ScandalEyes and what your thoughts are on the product.
