NOTD: China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy

China Glaze’s Flip Flop Fantasy has been on my wish list for a while now.  I was at Sally’s Beauty Supply picking up a new base coat because I finally finished my Seche Vite one and noticed that the China Glaze polishes were on sale for $4.99. I figured it was as good a time as any to finally pick this colour up.

This shade originally came out in 2010 as part of their Poolside collection and has been one of their bestsellers since.  CG doesn’t classify this colour as neon (it doesn’t say “neon” on the label like Pink Voltage does) but this is a retina-searing pink-coral colour.  Photos don’t do this colour justice, but it is bright.

I layered this colour over top of Orly’s Dayglow (a white colour) and then applied two coats of Flip Flop Fantasy over top.  For a base coat I used Beauty Secrets Base Coat and Poshe Top Coat on top.

I absolutely love this colour because it’s a gorgeous neon pink; not necessarily a hot pink, but more of a salmon.  I have tried this colour a few times before I bought it and depending on the bottle, I have had this colour look more neon, not sure if this is a formulation thing or what, but when I used a different bottle of this shade it was a lot brighter.

As for wearability, I got three days of this polish before some minor tip wear.  Application went on perfect, no streaks, but this could also be because of the way I applied it (look out for a blog post on nail polish application soon).

Oh, and happy 200 blog posts to me :).

Polished brows featuring It Cosmetics

Thin brows have never been a problem for me.  When it comes to eyebrows, mine come in quite fast and very dark. I’m finally at a stage where I can say that I like my brows and they tend to keep the same shape when they grow in, which leaves me with minimal clean up.  With that being said, I’m not that type of girl that often shades in her brows.  If I pencil anything in around that area it would just be to bring some colour back to them in case they get erased by foundation.  Oh, and the occasional time when I get a little pluck-happy.

Anyways, if you watched the shows from fall/winter 2012 Fashion Week it seems like the bushy eyebrow look is back full throttle.  Add some glitter to those bad boys  a la Chanel and you will be set (although that look isn’t really practical for every day).  I don’t typically go for the bold brow look but sometimes it’s just so perfect with minimal makeup.  Now imagine, a polished face with muted lips, minimal makeup, sleek, straight hair, and bold brows.  Yup, that’s what I’m talking about.

Now because I was blessed with thick eyebrows, not everyone is so lucky.  Eyebrows can make or break your face (not literally of course), they frame your face and a polished eyebrow is essential.  It should start right where the inner edge of your eye starts, with an impeccable arch just past your iris, and then end just past the outer corner of your eye.

It Cosmetics was kind enough to send me their Brow Power Perfector 5-in-1 Waterproof Powder Gel Pencil in both Dark Brown and Universal Taupe.  The product actually comes with two pencils plus a sharpener and retails for $29 at The Shopping Channel in Canada (check out QVC for the States).  I have tried a few It Cosmetics products in the past and have found that their products are exceptional.  They aren’t readily available in stores (you can’t stroll to your local Sephora and pick them up), but for a product that is offered off home shopping networks, these products work.

The Brow Power Perfector is essentially everything you need for your brows in one handy pencil.  It’s a waterproof brow pencil (extremely important), a fill-in powder, a taming gel, a conditioning treatment, and comes with a handy brow brush on the opposite end. It is also  infused with cutting-edge brow enhancing ingredients.  Plus, is has ingredients such as biotin, lecithin, saw palmetto, nettle leaf, horsetail flower extract, green tea, grape seed extract, and antioxidants. It’s also paraben-free, fragrance-free, phthalate-free, and sulfate-free.   So yes, it’s the brow product to end all brow products.

Universal Taupe on top, Dark Brown on bottom

The pencil is extremely soft and glides on your skin, however, because it’s waterproof you have to work fast because it sets and dries after two minutes.

Now like I said, I don’t have a thinning brow problem, in fact I hardly ever fill in my brows and when I do it’s usually with Buck eyeshadow from my Urban Decay Naked Palette.  I wanted a minimalistic, clean look so I thought I would define the brows and mute the rest of my face.

Before - no product added to brows.

The above photo is just my plain ol’ brows, nothing added to them.  They are full but nothing too special.

After using Brow Power Perfector 5-in-1 Waterproof Powder Gel Pencil

Here is after I used It Cosmetic’s Brow Power Perfector.  My brows look more defined and clean.  They are also a hint thicker as well.  To define the brow even more I used It Cosmetics Brow Power Lift (check out my review on it here), which is one side illuminator, one side matte highlight.

If you are lacking in the brow department I would seriously consider picking this product up.  It is quite affordable considering you get two pencils and a sharpener.  I don’t have thin brows so I can’t show you what a full brow would look like coloured in but if you shade in your brows everyday this would be great for you as it’s five products rolled into one simple brow pencil.

Have you tried It Cosmetics Brow Power Perfector 5-in-1 Waterproof Powder Gel Pencil?  If so, what are your thoughts?

Please note, I was provided with these products for review purposes.  With that being said, all opinions are my honest own :).

NOTD: Orly Glowstick

Looking for the perfect summer neon?  Look no further.

About a month ago I picked up Orly’s Dayglow because I really wanted a white nail polish to layer under neon colours and I had a gift certificate for Sally’s.  Dayglow was the only colour left on the Orly Feel the Vibe collection display but I got a chance to check out the swatches of the other colours and one of them has been in my mind since.

Orly’s Glowstick is a retina-searing highlighter yellow colour.  I actually had to buy this one off eBay because I can only find Orly at Sally’s and both of my local locations were sold out.  To say this colour is bright is an understatement.  This shade is seriously the definition of neon.  It’s a great summer colour to wear at the beach, at a pool party, or even at the club (it’s even brighter in the dark).

The colour is a bit hard to capture. This looks more yellow than it actually is.

I layered Orly’s Dayglow underneath and then put two coats of Glowstick over top.  To finish off the manicure I used Poshe top coat.  This polish does last a while on the nails before some minor chipping; however, I do find though that it is rather thin, so make sure that your base white is applied evenly otherwise you will see the streaking.

I highly recommend this shade if you can still get your hands on it.  It is definitely the most neon colour in my collection and the brightest one I have.
