Neutrals and nudes: Covergirl Outlast Moisturizing Lip Color with Topcoat New Neutrals collection

The real makeup MVP of the pandemic? Liquid lipsticks.

I was obsessed with these since before we had to wear masks, but with all the mouth covering going on, if you are bothering to even wear a lipstick, then a liquid one is the best way to go.

Now since so many brands have their own formulas it can be kinda tough to pick out the right one for you. I’ve tried a lot of them out there and when it comes to drugstore, Covergirl has a great one.

Covergirl Outlast Moisturizing Lip Color with Topcoat

The Outlast Moisturizing Lip Color with Topcoat (C$9.97) is a long-lasting lip colour that is a two-step system. There is the colour itself, which dries down to a matte texture, and then there is the moisturizing balm, which locks in colour and adds shine and moisture.

These have been out for a while now but Covergirl actually just released a collection of nudes to choose from that I’m all for. The New Neutrals collection is comprised of seven nude shades from light to dark that are sure to be flattering on just about any skin tone. I received two of them which are right up my alley, Porcelain (peach nude with shimmer) and Dusty Blush (a rose nude), and both are so great for summer (especially with a little tan).

The lip colour part is applied via a doe-foot applicator, letting you control where you are applying the product. For this collection I would say it’s a buildable coverage, which I like since I prefer a lighter nude as opposed to a darker one.  These do dry down matte and truthfully can be a little dry on the lips in general, so that’s why it’s handy to keep the moisturizing balm handy for some quick bursts of hydration.

As for longevity, these really do last a long time once applied. I do find that the balm can minimize the wear time a little bit, but overall you’ll get a lot of hours after just one application (even after eating and drinking).

When I compare these to other liquid lipsticks out there, especially the Maybelline ones, I would recommend these. I love the Maybelline formula as well, but I do find those especially hard to remove at the end of the day and I love how these Covergirl ones come with the balm (which is also an amazing lip hydrator in general).

Open eyes: Fenty Beauty Bright Fix Brightener Concealer

One beauty brand that I need to try every time they release new products? Fenty Beauty.

I love basically everything that they have released, including their face products.  I love the Pro Filt’r Foundation and Concealer, so when I saw they came out with a new concealer, you better believe I needed to try it out.

The Fenty Beauty Bright Fix Eye Brightener Concealer (C$33) is an undereye brightener that hydrates, conceals, and brightens the under eye area. I do find this one to be on the sheer side but it has a buildable coverage that is on the natural side.

Unlike their Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer, this one comes in a squeeze tube and a little goes a long way. The formula is on the lighter side and has a serum-like texture that brightens and blurs.  The formula is very hydrating thanks to the added jojoba oil to condition the under eyes.  It also contains a HydraBlend complex to retain moisture in the skin.

Fenty sent me three shades to try out.  In this range there are 16 shades to choose from, which is considerably less than the Instant Retouch formula.  I do like this concealer since it’s on the lighter side. I also don’t have any issues with my under eyes and dark circles or discolouration, so it works nicely for me.  I do want to add though that I find a sponge works better for working the product into the skin, as with a brush I find it just spreads and looks streaky.

I would actually like to pair it with their Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint for a lightweight summer look since both products are on the sheer side, but also at the same time buildable (just make sure to add some SPF).

If you are looking for a nice lightweight, hydrating foundation then I would give this a try. I think for the hot summer months this will be a nice product to sport for everyday wear or a day where you want something on the lighter side.

Sanitized and super fresh: Two new hygiene products you need to try from Dove

I don’t think I’ll ever forget March 2020.

The world changed forever that month and life as we all knew it made a huge pivot. Even as it was happening I remember thinking to myself that I’ll definitely be telling my children one day about the grocery store shelves being empty, the intercom messages saying to stay six feet apart, and the worldwide shortage of hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes.  All of the sudden, in the span of a week, household cleaning items were more coveted than a Birkin.

It was a challenge to find it back then, but it’s relatively easy to find hand sanitizer now and I was pleasantly surprised to see that household brands like Dove are now coming out with their own line.

Dove Hand Sanitizer

Brand new from Dove is their hand sanitizer (C$6.47), which comes in two scents, Deep Moisture and Shea Butter and Warm Vanilla, as well as travel-sized versions. These hand sanitizers aren’t your typical alcohol-based ones, they actually also moisturize and care for the skin. They are made with naturally-derived alcohol and kill germs and harmful bacteria while meeting CDC and Health Canada-required alcohol levels.

The formula contains their Moisture Renew Blend, as well as skin-natural nutrients to give you eight hours of moisturization, leaving hands feeling soft and hydrated. Pick one of their two scents and get a burst of moisture and cleanliness while on the go.

Dove Antibacterial Hand Wash

For at-home use, take a look at their Care & Protect Antibacterial Hand Wash (C$6.97).

This hand wash kills bacteria and germs and contains their five moisture blend to protect skin against dryness.  All you need is a pump for nourished and hydrated hands (which with all the hand washing and sanitizing we have been doing lately, we need all the nourishment we can get).

Although Dove has other hand washes, I believe this is their only one with the five moisturizer blend. Since it’s antibacterial, it also kills bacteria and germs, and best of all, won’t dry out your hands.

Dove Hand Wash and Sanitizers

Although I do think that Dove is a little late to the game with these products, I do like how they released them, and the hand washing and sanitizing isn’t going away anytime soon.  I wish they had the sanitizer available in smaller bottles for on-the-go use, but I’m happy they have released something that won’t dry out skin.

What’s your favourite hand sanitizer?
