Four eyes: A glasses makeup tutorial feat. Maybelline

Title

Last year I started experiencing irritation when I wore my contact lenses. I’ve been wearing contacts for probably over 10 years and would only wear glasses at night before I went to bed.  Well since my eyes have apparently had enough, I have switched over to dailies, which unless I put them in in the morning, I don’t want to waste one of my precious lenses, which are more expensive than monthlies and don’t last as long. Aside from that, I’ve also drastically cut down on my contacts wear and choose to wear glasses most days.

Because of all this, I have had to adjust my makeup game. I tend to do a neutral eye and a soft lip so it complements my glasses. Also, it’s kinda tricky wearing false lashes since they tend to hit the lens.

When it comes to wearing makeup with glasses, less is definitely more. I tend to go with a neutral eye, since you won’t really see your eyeshadow that much, and then play up my skin more. I like rocking a medium to full-coverage foundation with some concealer (glasses can tend to create shadows under the eyes), some bronzer to carve out those cheeks, and a little highlighter that catches the eye when I turn my head.  Lips are also a major focus point, since they aren’t being covered up.

Maybelline products Maybelline palette

I received a ton of new spring goodie from Maybelline recently and thought it was the perfect time to put them to test since some of their new stuff revolved around the brows, lips, and eyes.

I’ve been obsessed lately with the Brow Precise Perfecting Highlighter, which I’ve used in a few looks now.  Having a strong brow game is super important with glasses, since they need to help complement your face. You may not see your eyeshadow, but you’ll definitely see your brows. This guy a nude-toned creamy highlighter that is angled perfectly so it fits right along that brow bone. As a result, you get accentuated brows for a polished look.

Speaking of the eyes, I dipped my brushes into the new 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, which has 13 wearable shades in shimmers and mattes. Since you want to keep the eyes neutral, this palette is perfect for everyday wear. It also has a few darker shades if you want to turn up the volume.

For the rest of the face, I went with all Maybelline products, including their new Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer, which adds some light to under your eyes, a must with glasses! For the lips, I used one of their new Colour Sensational Shaping Lip Liners, which are soooooo creamy, then mixed a couple of their Colour Sensational lipsticks over top for a pink nude look.

Final 2 Steps 1. Starting with the brows, fill them in and then use a highlighter along the brow bone. I used the Maybelline Brow Define + Fill Duo and the Brow Precise Perfecting Highlighter.

2. For the eyes, first lay down a primer, like the Master Prime Long-Lasting Eyeshadow Base. With a fluffy crease brush and the matte sand colour, apply that to your crease to act as a transition colour.

3. Next, with a crease brush, apply the shimmery golden brown colour to the crease.

4. To darken that up, apply the matte black lightly in the crease.

5. Mix the shimmery champagne pink and the shimmery gold (the very right and the very left colour on the top row), and apply that to your lids.

6. With a pencil brush and that matte black, apply that to your lash line to create a subtle line.

7. Curl your lashes and apply some mascara, I used Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect mascara. For the lower lash line, I first applied a cream brown, like ColorTattoo Concentrated Crayon in Creamy Chocolate, then applied that shimmery brown that we used in the crease over top of the cream.

8. For the face, I used my favourite Maybelline foundation, Fit Me Matte + Poreless, and their new concealer, Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer.

9. To finish up the face, I used the bronzer and blush from the Face Studio Master Contour Contouring Kit, and the highlight is courtesy of the new Face Studio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter.

10. For the lips, I first outlined them and filled them in with the Colour Sensational Shaping Lip Liner in Nude Whisper.  After, I lightly applied the Colour Sensational Matte lipstick in Almond Rose with Colour Sensational in Bare All over top to make it a little more nude. To set everything, I used the Maybelline Master Fix Wear Boosting Setting Spray.

final 1

I love this look because it can easily go from day to night. The glasses are the perfect complement to the whole thing and because they kinda dress-down the makeup and you end up looking very natural.

Although I prefer to wear contacts when I do my makeup for a night out, I actually ended up loving how this turned out. I’ll probably be rocking glasses more from now on…

Spring cleaning: Three skincare items you need to try this spring

Title

We are in our final stretch of winter, which means that it’s time to start switching up the skincare routine.  Maybe you don’t need so thick of a moisturizer, or maybe you need a more oily cleanser to tame your skin in the warmer weather. Luckily, a new season means new skincare and I rounded up the top three items you need to try this spring.

Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray

From the brand that made setting sprays a thing, Skindinavia always seems to amaze me with the formulas they come up with in a spray form. Their newest one is targeted to get rid of all that gross stuff that lives in our pores (no, it’s surprisingly not for makeup, in fact it’s aimed to get rid of makeup!).

Beauty products can clog pores and strip skin of key minerals, so the Post-Makeup Recovery Spray delivers a boost of key nutrients, including zinc, that is aimed to promote luminous, clear skin. The spray is designed to replenish the pH levels in our skin, as well as the minerals and vitamins that are depleted through long-wear makeup use.

Make sure you spray it within five minutes of cleaning your makeup off for maximum benefits. This product launched this month and you can find it on their website for $26 USD.

Estee Lauder

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Mask-In-Oil

A skincare must is applying a serum before your moisturizer. I have a different one for day and night and the one I’ve been using before bed lately has been the new Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Recover Mask-In-Oil.

This serum is supposed to act as a sleeping mask, encouraging vital, natural nighttime skin recovery, while at the same time protecting and preparing skin for the next day.

Apply a few drops of this lightweight serum after your cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. The oil hugs the skin while you sleep to help strengthen the skin and support repair.

You can find this serum at Estee Lauder counters and Sephora and Shopper’s Drug Mart for C$100.

L’Oreal Hydra Genius and Micellar Water Complete Cleanser

After just being in Korea, I was excited to try out L’Oreal Paris’ new skincare line, Hydra Genius, which is inspired by their skincare. Available in three products, this line features three liquid-based moisturizers for oily (gel liquid and magnifying), normal to dry (rich liquid and glowing), and extra-dry skin (balmy liquid and comforting). These are formulated to offer lightweight hydration for all-day comfort. The liquid care is said to penetrate deeper, faster, and longer into the skin.

Each moisturizer is formulated with aloe water and hyaluronic acid to provide dual action. Skin feels more quenched after wear. Best part is the price. Each of these have an SRP of C$23.99 each.

Also new is the L’Oreal Micellar Water Complete Cleanser (okay, so I guess this post has four products, not three…).  I am obsessed with micellar water since I find it’s the best makeup remover out there. I have tried it from multiple brands and my favourite is the Bioderma, however, L’Oreal has just released a new formula that also delivers amazing results.

This cleansing water is for all skin types and removes makeup in a breeze (even waterproof mascara), as well as hydrating and soothing the skin. It also cleans away dirt and impurities on the face. It goes without saying, but make sure to use this before your cleanser.

There have been so many skincare launches last month and coming up. If you’re looking for a new skincare routine, I definitely recommend adding some of these products to your list!

Lip Canvas: L’Oreal Paris Infallible Lip Paints

title L’Oreal is killing it with colour this season.

In addition to new skincare, face products, and hair dyes, the French beauty brand has recently released a new lineup of lip products under the Infallible umbrella. The Infallible Paints (there’s also colourful liquid eyeliners available too!) deliver intense colour on the lips and are available in 14 bold shades, including reds, oranges, purples, pinks, nudes, and even a blue.

Although this looks like a squeeze-tube product, they actually feature a wand with a grooved tip which lets you first outline lips then apply the colour. Each shade goes on very vibrant and gives you full coverage and a comfortable wear.

lip products Wand

I received six of the colours, Fearless Fuchsia, Cool Coral, Orange Envy, Lilac Lust, Taupeless, and Bewitching Bordeaux. True to their name, each colour is painted on the lips in a vibrant shade with a slight glossy finish. The product is comfortable to wear, however, I did find that if you’re eating and drinking, you will need to reapply the shade.

Although I did love the pigmentation on these (especially Lilac Lust, such a pretty colour – although not for everyday wear…), I didn’t like the longevity of the product. I had to apply the product after breakfast, lunch, snack, etc. I feel like the formulas of lip products are so advanced nowadays, that I’m spoiled when it comes to the wear of lipsticks. L’Oreal’s other Infallible lip products are a bit better in terms of the duration of wear, but they were also designed to last for a while. These focus more on intense pigmented colour.

Bewitching Bordeaux Cool Coral Fearless Fuchsia Lilac Lust Orange Envy Taupeless

Although I really liked the shade range and the colour options, they aren’t my favourite by the brand. I also found the wear to be quite heavy on the lips. But I feel like it’s a trade off.  Amazing colour for a high-maintenance product.

Have you tried any of the L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paints? What were your thoughts?
