Going nude: Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte liquid lipsticks

In case you can’t tell, I’m totally obsessed with matte liquid lipsticks.

There’s just something about them, whether it’s the fact that they’re comfortable to wear, or the gorgeous matte texture, or even how they make my lips look bigger, matte liquid lipsticks are still a huge trend and one that looks like will be sticking around for a while still.

When I heard that one of my favourite brands, Make Up For Ever, was coming out with a six-piece collection, I just had to try them out.

Artist Liquid Matte, which launched in February 2017 in Sephora stores, are a long-lasting matte lipstick which goes on as a liquid then settles to a matte. They have amazing colour payoff and dry to an ultra-matte finish. Wear is incredibly comfortable (no tackiness on the inner lip area) and the colour sets, meaning that it won’t smudge or transfer.

The shade range on these are quite small, with only six colours, all in the nude range. With that being said, there is a pink and a chocolate brown, but for the most part, they are all in the beige family. Each one features a doe-foot applicator for a precise application. If you prefer a lipliner, there are corresponding shades in the Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip lipliner range as well.

I received three colours from the line, 101 Cream Beige (the lightest colour), 103 Warm Beige, and 107 Neutral Beige. I totally thought that I would love 101 the most, but after trying all three, I’m kinda having a hard time coming up with a favourite. All three colours are just so flattering on, and for being all nudes, they are very different. Best of all, since they are so flattering, you can definitely wear these with a variety of different looks.

As for wear, I typically find matte liquid lips to be long wearing in general, but every brand is different in terms of how long the formula last as some last longer than others. These weren’t too bad, I did find I would have to reapply the colour a little in the inner parts of my lips when I ate, however, for the most part, the colour stays on quite nice. They aren’t at the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit level since those are like cement on the lips, but they hold their own quite well.

Matte liquid lipsticks are also notoriously drying, however, these have avocado oil and glycerin in them to help nourish and maintain lips’ hydration, so they are quite comfortable to wear, you won’t even notice you’re wearing anything at all.

I absolutely love these and hope they bring out more shades in the future. With that being said though, I actually love the six shades they chose to go with to introduce the collection. The three I have are incredibly wearable and I’m sure the other three are as well. These just may be my new fave matte liquid lipsticks (aside from the Kylie ones and the Sephora Collection ones), but I definitely highly recommend checking these out and swatching them in store.

Have you tried the Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Mattes? Which one is your fave?

Blooming beauty: Spring must-haves from P&G Beauty

It’s officially spring, and best of all, it actually feels like it.

Saturday went up to a high of 18 degrees (celsius of course), so naturally the jackets were left outside and I even busted out the flip flops (to be fair, I did go get a pedicure). Anyways, a new season means new beauty products and with summer coming up, that means this body needs to get in tiptop shape. I’ve been stepping up the fitness routine a lot lately, but skin, hair, and teeth is also super important.  P&G Beauty sent over some goodies to get a headstart on spring beauty and get radiant skin and shiny tresses.

Olay Regenerist and body wash

Starting in the shower, I always have a bottle of Olay body wash. Since my skin is slowly transitioning from dry and scaly to moisturized and soft, the Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash helps speed up the process. The formula contains a lock-in moisture technology that infuses skin with moisture without leaving a coated feel, perfect for your after-show moisturizer.

Speaking of, I’ve always been a fan of Olay moisturizers and one of my favourite lines from them is the Regenerist one. I always apply a serum before my moisturizer both morning and night and the Regenerist Miracle Boost Concentrate is a lightweight emulsion that is designed for layering below the Olay Micro-Sculpting Cream to boost skin’s absorbency with hydration and improve elasticity for a lifted appearance.  The Micro-Sculpting Cream is an old favourite of mine and they recently re-engineered the formula to enable skin cells to act younger and deliver visible transformative results (it’s also super hydrating and gives you younger-looking skin).

Herbal Essences Bio:Renew haircare

For hair, I was so excited to try out the new Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Argan Oil of Morocco shampoo and conditioner. Bio:Renew is their new formula which features a signature blend of essential antioxidants, aloe, and sea kelp that help revive lifeless hair with every wash. It also contains no parabens, gluten or colorants and this formula is safe for colour, and gives hair instant repair, shine, and frizz protection.

After the shower, I always use a few styling products, one of which is always a smoothing serum. The Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Argan Oil of Morocco-Infused Creme strengthens and repairs hair against residual winter damage and frizz. It also smells amazing (which is always a plus!). Once my hair is dry I usually curl it and rely on a hairspray that keeps the curl in check but is also movable and not sticky. The Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Flexible Hairspray contains 0% parabens, gluten, colorants, and alcohol and it’s formulated to control frizz, provide moisturized, touchable hair and all-day humidity protection (a must for those hotter spring days).

Secret Fresh Collection Deodorant Invisible Solid and Crest 3D White Whitestrips

Finally, little odds and ends, deodorant is a must for everyday and although I’m not that picky when it comes to the brand (I do prefer a solid as opposed to a gel though), I do often pick my deodorant based on smell. The Secret Fresh Collection Deodorant Invisible Solid has some springtime fragrances that are formulated with a scent-enhancing technology that tracks odours and replaces them with something more pleasant. I work out a lot, so the sweat-activated technology is a must for me.

Finally, I brush my teeth every night but sometimes they need a little help when it comes to whiteness. I rely on Crest Whitestrips to add some sparkle and shine to my smile. The Crest 3D White Whitestrips Supreme Flexfit uses an advanced technology called Flexfit that allows the strips to stretch and mould to a custom fit, perfect for any smile. I remember back in the day when Crest Whitestrips first came out and I found the strips would get so soggy and start to fall off after about 20 minutes. Not these. These guys have come a long way and this particular set form to your teeth and latch on for a comfortable wear.
I’m totally digging all these new P&G Beauty products for spring, and since a lot of them are staples, I love sharing (and learning!) what new technologies they are putting in their products.

What are your staples for hair, skin, and teeth for the season?

No joke: CoverGirl Total Tease mascara

I got an email previewing CoverGirl’s newest mascara the day before April Fool’s Day.  Naturally, watching the video I totally thought this new product would be a joke. I didn’t think it was actually real until I saw a display for it last weekend at Walmart.

I’ve said on my blog many times that I’ve always been a fan of CoverGirl mascaras. I recommend them to friends and colleagues all the time, however, their newest releases have left me a little disappointed.  The past couple formulas didn’t really do much for my lashes so I thought the drugstore brand was loosing its touch when it came to the lash game.

Their newest formula, and I want to say the first since Coty acquired them, is the Total Tease mascara, a product that guarantees full, long, refined, sexy and teased lashes. Available in five shades and a waterproof version, the thing that makes Total Tease stand out is the brush. Covergirl Total Tease mascara CoverGirl Total Tease mascara wand

The brush features a specialized detailing tip that allows for a no-mess application. No, it’s not one of those balls at the end of the wand, instead it’s a mini comb that you use to get those hard-to-reach inner lashes on both corners of the eye. As for the non-comb part, it’s a thinner brush, which I totally prefer over all the other CoverGirl mascara releases lately that feature a giant brush. I like getting to the base of the lash to fully coat it. The bigger the brush is, the harder that is to accomplish.

After using this mascara a few times I can actually report that CoverGirl got their groove back.  This reminds me of The Supersizer a little due to the brush size (minus the brush thingy), and the packaging is totally reminiscent of Benefit’s Rollerlash.  I really like the way this made my lashes look, although they didn’t look fuller, they did appear more longer and defined.

Also, I want to note that most mascaras, especially drugstore though for some reason, often tend to work better once more air gets in the product. Meaning, that I find these mascaras perform better when they aren’t as wet. Let the formula get a little drier and you’ll see maximum results.

Swatches of CoverGirl Total Tease mascara

I believe this mascara officially launches in May, but if you can find it in drugstores now (I’ve seen it two places now), it’s definitely worth a try. Let me know what you think of it and how you feel it compares to its predecessors!

Are you excited to try out CoverGirl’s Total Tease mascara?

Please note, I received this product for review. All opinions are my own.
