If there’s one beauty product that I get the most excited to look at, it’s definitely a highlighter.
Highlights have become one of those products that you just need to have in your collection. It’s also one of those things that get the most hype. Drugstore brands have started coming out with their own versions, but it seems that luxe brands still rule the market with out-of-this-world glows.
I recently received a bunch of liquid highlighters from Tarte Cosmetics, which I was so excited to try out since I feel that they really focus on creating uber-shiny highlights that are so noticeable (and gorgeous to look at). Liquid highlighters are great because they are perfect for giving you that dewy, wet look. I also find that they are more subtle on the skin, perfect for that “glow from within” highlight. You can also layer them under a powder to get the most epic shine.
The Tarteist PRO Glow Liquid Highlight, available in three shades, is a light-reflecting liquid highlighter that illuminates all skin tones for a healthy, dewy glow. It contains some ingredients, like rose water and mineral pigments, that help skin retain moisture and soothe and soften skin. The product is buildable, so depending on how much you layer on your skin, you can have a subtle glow or an intense one. The hybrid gel-cream, oil-free formula can also be mixed in with your foundation for that perfect dewy look.
The PRO Glow Liquid Highlight is available in three gold-esque shades, Stunner (opalescent), Exposed (nude), and Sparkler (rose gold). They are all so shiny and shimmery when you apply them, and honestly, if I had to choose my favourite, I don’t think I would be able to. They are just all so jaw dropping.
The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Twinkle Stick Highlight is available in two shades and is a cream highlight in a stick form. This product promises a long-wearing glow that contains coconut, vitamin E, apple and marine extracts. As part of the Rainforest of the Sea line, it also has the blend of algae and marine flower extracts that help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also smoothing skin.
The Twinkle Stick Highlights are great since they are less messy (you just swipe them on!) and give you a little more control on where you are applying the product. There are only two shades in the line, Skylight (pearl) and Spotlight (champagne). I prefer Spotlight since I like a more gold-toned highlight. You can also layer these under a powder one or even under a liquid highlight (I did so in the photos below, I’m wearing Spotlight with the PRO Glow in Exposed over top).
Like I said in the beginning, if there is one product that truly makes me excited, it’s highlighters. Maybe it’s because I love glittery things, but as soon as I swatched all of these, I pretty much screamed in excitement. There’s nothing like a good highlight, and these ones from Tarte are truly show stopping.
What’s your favourite highlighter? Have you tried any from Tarte?

Did you know that Shellac is actually the name of a brand in addition to the name of a formula? If you’re getting a Shellac mani, it’s actually a specific polish by the brand CND, anything else is actually just a gel manicure.
If you haven’t heard of CND, it’s a nail polish line based in San Diego, CA that is a global leader in professional nail products and services. It’s moreso a line that you would see exclusively at salons, rather than one you can buy at any store. In addition to Shellac, they also offer Vinylux, their own version of the no-light gel mani, and Creative Play Nail Lacquer.
I’ve tried both Vinylux and Shellac, but am totally new to the Creative Play game (in fact, I didn’t even know that line existed until last week). Creative Play seems to be new to CND and it’s traditional nail polish, one that you can change up consistently. It dries quickly and has micronized pigments for a burst of colour with each application. Currently, there are 104 colours available in the collection with 10 different finishes.
For summer 2017, they released the Sunset Bash collection consisting of eight shades that pop and represent those hot summer months. There’s teal, mint, coral, lilac, you name it. Like most nail polish lines, they offer up a base coat, colour, and top coat, and those micronized pigments I was talking about earlier help to optimize colour intensity, smoothness and gloss.
At first glance, I thought it was like any other summer collection out there. These colours aren’t really new to the nail polish game. The majority of them are creme, but there is a shimmer and a glitter in there as well. When I got to actually watching them, I was very impressed with the formula. The majority of the colours went on quite opaque after one swipe, and best of all, they dried rather quickly, which is always a plus in my books.
I received seven of the eight colours (missing Fuchsia Fling) and was impressed with the formula. They all went on rather glossy except for Teal the Wee Hours, but a shiny top coat can solve that problem. As someone who loves glitter polishes but finds that they tend to be way more sheer when applied rather than how they look in the bottle, I was pleasantly surprised with Express Ur Em-Oceans, as two coats gave me a nice glittery finish on the nails. I ended up pairing Teal the Wee Hours and Express Ur Em-Oceans for a shiny blue colour that was truly gorgeous to look at.
Overall, I’m really impressed with CND Creative Play. Usually when I get nail polish collections, I’ll swatch them once and depending on if I actually like the colour, I’ll choose to either keep it or give it away. There are a lot of colours in this collection that I totally want to rock for more than the five minutes it takes to paint my nails and take a photo. I will say though that if you love a specific shade in this line and want it in Shellac, it doesn’t appear that CND transcends the colours. I’m sure though that Shellac offers up a similar shade.
Have you tried CND Creative Play nail polishes?

I have never tried L’Oreal Paris’ Voluminous mascara.
When it comes to drugstore mascaras, there are a few that have so much hype around them that they become cult classics. For some reason, I’ve just never got around to giving L’Oreal Voluminous a whirl. I had all the intention of picking it up when I got my lash extensions off the first time around because everyone on YouTube was raving about it, but I think I just had a few lying around my place that I just never got the chance to go out and buy it (as a beauty blogger, you get a lot of stuff).
Anyways, as someone who has a ton of different mascaras on rotation right now, I don’t typically invest my time into finding new mascaras to try out since the shelf life on these is quite short due to bacteria (they say you should throw out your mascara after three months – I tend to stretch it though, oops!). When I saw the newest addition to the Voluminous line up though, I just had to get my hands – and lashes – on it.
Voluminous Lash Paradise, which officially launches tomorrow, May 30, features an hourglass-shaped soft wavy bristle brush for volume and lash length. The brush is packed with over 200 bristles which allows you to hold the maximum amount of formula and catch every lash for a bright look. Application is a breeze and it promises volume in one coat.
Here’s the thing about Lash Paradise, and why I wanted it so bad, it looks exactly like Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, which is my holy-grail favourite mascara ever. In fact, I was wanting to buy a new tube of it since my Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascaras is all but gone. Then I saw this one and let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint.
From the pink packaging to the brush itself, it’s nearly identical to Better Than Sex (the above photo shows Too Faced Better Than Sex, which has a slightly more hourglass-shaped brush, on the left), and for an SRP of C$13.99 (which you can totally find on sale since it’s drugstore), it’s a better price point to pick up. But how does it perform?
Amazing. Simply amazing.
Lashes look uber long, dark, and separated. It’s definitely the best drugstore mascara at the moment (and it’s not even officially released yet). I find with drugstore mascaras they tend to be very wet when you first start using them, and then after a while and some air has gotten in the tube, the formula thickens up and you get the maximum benefits from the product. This stuff works wonders right out of the tube. It also didn’t seem to transfer, flake, or wear down throughout the day.
Lash Paradise is available in four shades, Blackest Black, Black, Black Brown, and Waterproof Blackest Black. I used Blackest Black in these swatches.
I did use an eyelash curler with these photos, but that’s because I use one everyday. Seriously, if you love Too Faced Better Than Sex (and really, who doesn’t?), then you need to pick this up tomorrow. Run, don’t walk to you nearest drugstore. Your lashes will thank you.
Let me know if you pick this guy up. It’s worth it!
