Long & strong: CoverGirl Exhibitionist Stretch & Strengthen Mascara

I’ve always had a thing for CoverGirl mascaras.

When it comes to mascaras, the drugstore versions have definitely been killing it over the past few years. Honestly, you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to get a great mascara.  I can think of at least five drugstore versions that are amazing, and they are all under $15.

When it comes to CoverGirl, most of the mascaras I have tried from them have been winners. Because of that, I was very excited to get their newest version, the Exhibitionist Stretch & Strengthen Mascara (C$12.99) in the mail.

This mascara is billed to give you a lash extension effect and features a fortifying formula to nourish lashes. It has peptides, biotin, and Pro-Vitamin B5 to hydrate and protect lashes from breakage while making them appear longer and thicker.

Available in four shades (Very Black, Black, Black Brown, and Very Black Water Resistant), this mascara is also clump free, flake free, smudge free, and promises to last all day.

The wand isn’t anything really special, but I do like how it is long, so I find you get good control over where you are applying the product. It also features wavy bristles to reach and wrap around every lash from root to tip.

Scalp saviours: Kerastase Specifique Restorative Hair Care collection for sensitive & itchy scalps

I don’t know about you but I find in the winter time my scalp gets itchy and flaky.

Dry, flaky scalps run in my family so this was always something that I had to deal with. Truthfully, it doesn’t really bother me that much but I would love something that helps to target this problem. Enter Kerastase’s newest line, their Specifique Restorative Hair Care collection.

This collection of hair care products is aimed to help with sensitive and itchy scalps. There are four items in this collection and each one will help with dry and sensitive skin on the head area.

Start first with the Bain Divalent Balancing Shampoo (C$46), with is a balancing shampoo for oily roots, sensitized scalps. It is a light formula that contains amino acids and Vitamin B6 to balance the scalp’s oiliness. It purifies scalps to reduce excess oil and odour and adds volume to flat hair as well. In addition, it also helps with detangling and nourishes hair, leaving it soft and shiny.

The added amino acid helps to balance the hair fiber to gently cleanse, whereas the Vitamin B6 protects the hair from external aggressors.

Bain Divalent Balancing Shampoo

For a conditioner, they have two masks available. The Masque Rehydratant Hair Mask (C$72) ultra-moisturizes hair and is perfect for dry hair.

This mask is a lightweight gel formula that instantly rebalances hair’s hydration levels while also restoring hair quality. Apply it to the hair and leave it on for a few months before washing out, revealing soft hair with a lightweight finish.

This mask also features amino acids to balance the hair fiber to cleanse. It also has ceramide in it to help improve the fiber’s ability to resist breakage and lock in moisture.

Their other mask, Argile Equilibrante Cleansing Clay (C$46) is a mask designed for dry and damaged hair. It features a purifying clay that is ultra-rich to leave you with soft and nourishes hair.

This clay mask cleanses and purifies the scalp and helps to balance the sebum level on the hair. It also helps with removing pollution and impurities without stripping. As a result of use, your scalp will feel more invigorated and refreshed, and hair will be more voluminous.

This mask also includes amino acids with the star ingredient being kaolin clay, which absorbs excess sebum and pollution.

If you are wondering what the difference is between the two, to me it seems like the Masque Rehydratant Hair Mask would be a more luxurious and heavy-duty mask compared to the Cleansing Clay one. I would use the Rehydratant one maybe once every two weeks or as needed, whereas the clay one I would use maybe once a week.

Finally, for after the shower, take a look at the Serum Potentialiste (C$80), which is a scalp serum with antioxidant properties. This serum is great to use for unbalanced scalps, whether its normal, dry, sensitive or oily.

You apply this via three drops directly on the scalp. It helps to defend against the feeling of an uncomfortable and dry scalp. The fast-absorbing gel texture helps to soothe and leave your scalp feeling healthy and hydrated. Apply it for its soothing and more balanced properties.

Kerastase Serum Potentialiste

The formula includes 10 per cent Bifidus Prebiotics, which respects the microbiome, as well as one per cent Vitamin-C derivative, which neutralizes the effect of daily oxide aggressors.

I find this serum to be very unique and think it’s great for just about anyone since dry scalp can be a common problem. If you suffer from scalp irritation or dandruff then this is great to pick up as well.

I really love this collection and think its great to use for just about anyone since dry scalp is a common occurrence. I think it’s great to have on hand, even if it’s just the serum or one of the masques for spot treatments.

Do you suffer from dry scalp?

You can never really go wrong with a skincare gift.

I always say that this time of the year is the best time to get any beauty product. Whether you’re buying it for yourself or a loved one, all the brands offer gift sets to try our their products and these sets usually un for the same amount of money as one or two full-size items.

Because of this, if you are looking for skincare, then now is your chance to pick up a gift set with some products you love or have been meaning to try out.  Stuck on where to start?  Well, I have some suggestions.  Keep reading..

Skinceuticals First Signs of Aging Set Skinceuticals First Signs of Aging Set

When it comes to some of the best skincare products out there, I highly recommend Skinceuticals.

Skinceuticals is a medical-grade skincare brand that you can find at medical clinics and licensed sellers. It’s not drugstore or department store, but rather more potent products that work well for all types of skin concerns. I’ve been using their products for years (their serums are amazing) and if you are entering your 30s I do recommend looking into this brand.

A great place to start is the First Signs of Aging Set (C$462, valued at C$511). Okay, so I know this is pricey (like, really expensive), but hear me out.  In here you get a 30 ml of their iconic Phloretin CF, a 15 ml A.G.E. Eye Complex, 50 ml of the Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, and a bonus product of their Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 (50 ml) and a complimentary eye roller.

Skinceuticals First Signs of Aging Set

The Phloretin CF (which retails for C$192 alone) is one of their iconic Vitamin C serums that is ideal for normal, oily, and combination skin. If you have discloloration, acne, or signs of aging, then this is for you.

The A.G.E. Eye Complex (C$117) is a potent eye cream that targets crow’s feet and wrinkles, as well as improves the look of dark circles and puffiness.  It also helps with dryness around the eye area and works perfectly with the complimentary eye roller which helps to massage the product in to boost penetration and reduce the look of puffiness.

The Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 (C$159) is an anti-aging cream that helps to reinforce the skin’s barrier and improve dryness, as well as the appearance of skin smoothness. It will provide hydration almost immediately and is a great cream to use in the winter months.

Now if you already use these products then this set is a great one to pick up since you are essentially just paying for those items and then you get a free 50 ml of their iconic Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 sunscreen (retails for C$51).  I’m actually using this sunscreen right now during the day and it’s great for protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.  It’s a broad-spectrum 100 per cent physical sunscreen that is also ideal for post-procedure, as well as sensitive skin and dry skin.

Very rarely do Skinceuticals products go on sale, so although this is still a very expensive set, for the price, it’s good value since you are getting a couple free items in here.

Isa Knox LXNEW Platinum Special Trial Kit

If you want to try out a new skincare regimen but don’t want to invest in the full-size products then take a look at the Isa Knox LXNEW Platinum Special Trial Kit (C$46).

This kit contains the moisturizing products you need for your daytime and nighttime skincare routine, all in deluxe sizes. Included is a 15 ml of the day cream, 5 ml of the eye cream, 15 ml of the night cream, and 7 ml of the oil serum.

Start first with your cleanser, then go in with the Isa Knox LXNEW Platinum Sculpting Oil Serum, which smooths the appearance of wrinkles and tightens facial contours for a more smoother, firmer, and sculpted look. After, apply the Isa Knox LXNEW Platinum Sculpting Day Cream in the morning and the Isa Knox LXNEW Platinum Sculpting Night Cream at night. Both of these creams help make skin look and feel firmer.  Finally, apply the Isa Knox LXNEW Platinum Sculpting Eye Cream, which firms and brightens the delicate eye area.

I love the idea of this set since deluxe-sized skincare is always good to have on hand for travel. As well, if you are looking for a new routine, this is a great way to try this regimen out.

There are so many great skincare sets out there for the holidays and I do recommend picking some up, whether they be brands you already use or ones you have been dying to try.  It really is the best time to stock up get some great deals on some of your favourite products.
