Notable lipsticks that have had an impact on my life? YSL Beauty’s Rouge Volupte.
Okay, so maybe saying “an impact on my life” is a little over the top, but those were probably the first luxury lipsticks I ever got and for a while I was completely obsessed with them (it also didn’t hurt that we didn’t have a YSL counter in my city at the time so it made them harder to find).
Anyways, it’s been a while since I’ve bought one of those since I have so many lipsticks in my collection, but they have always held a special place in my heart regardless if I have used them or not in the past few years.
New to the Rouge Volupte line is their Rock ‘N Shine collection (C$49 each), which is a line of 10 lipsticks that feature a glitter core that leaves your lips with pigmented colour and a sparkling finish. Perhaps the most innovative part of these lipsticks is the silver star in the middle of the bullet that makes these so luxurious when applying them. The star-shaped core is packed with glitter that makes your lips stand out. They also have a fresh mango scent which makes them a treat to apply.
YSL Beauty was so gracious to send over three lipsticks to swatch and try out, and these are just as luxurious as their original counterparts. The majority of the shades are very bold and although I don’t usually reach for reds, these do apply really beautifully and leave lips looking juicy and bold.
The packaging on these is the same as their Rouge Volupte line but in silver with a glittery cap. I will also note that although the star motif on the bullet is beautiful, once you start using these it does get all smudged.
So how do these compare to the original formula? They feel very similar in that the wear is lightweight and they glide on the lips. These just have glitter in them so it helps to elevate the colour. Like I said, all the shades do lean more towards a bolder colours, so if you wear reds, oranges or pinks then you would probably really enjoy these.
Do you have any YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks in your collection?

Another hobby to add to your self-isolating routine? Practicing with makeup! Although I go makeup-free Sunday to Friday, the past few Saturdays I have been filming some IGTV videos and I have to say that it’s been pretty nice to wear makeup and pretend everything is completely normal. Since I have so much makeup, a lot of it is sitting around right now not being used, but that’s okay since this won’t be forever and you better believe that once we can all go out again, it’s all going to be used in full force.
If you are looking for some new goodies to try, then I have some affordable recommendations from Avon. I actually got these products at the beginning of February but then I went to New York so I was unable to properly swatch and report.
As part of their The Face Shop collab, Avon has released a couple eyeshadow palettes and a range of lipsticks that are oh so spring appropriate.
Starting with the shadow palettes first, the Mono Pop Eyeshadow Palette (C$28) comes in two different colour combos (pinks and browns) and is designed to enhance your eye look thanks to a variety of monochromatic shades. Open up the palette to reveal nine universally flattering shades to create an assortment of different looks that can easily be transitioned from day to night.
I received the Mood Brown palette, which contains a variety of browns, nudes, coppers, and golds. These shades can be easily mixed and matched and I found this to be a great everyday palette. The shadows come in matte and shimmer formulations and they apply quite soft. I wouldn’t say this is the most pigmented palette I own, but it’s great for everyday wear, and since it’s so small, it would be great for travel as well.
The other palette, Mood Coral, is also a dream with more pinks, browns, nudes, and even an orange. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either palette since the shade range in both are so neutral.
For the lips, Avon x The Face Shop has released their Rouge Satin Moisture Lipsticks (C$22 each), which is a moisturizing colour-rich lipstick that leaves lips feeling soft. There are 20 shades to choose from, each packed full of pigment, giving you a pop of colour that is oh so appropriate for the season.
Avon sent me three shades to try out, but overall all the colour lean towards pinks, corals, reds, and purples. I found these to apply very pigmented and lightweight. They were comfortable to wear and really pretty on the lips.
Truthfully though, I didn’t find these to be any different from other lipsticks I have tried as there are so many pigmented lightweight lipsticks on the market right now anyways.
Overall, I really like what Avon has released with The Face Shop so far and I’m not sure how long their collab is going for, but I definitely hope they keep releasing more products.
Have you been playing around with makeup during this time?

The one thing we all need? Shampoo and conditioner.
Just like skincare, there are so many different formulas of haircare that you can pick up that are targeted to your specific hair texture and needs. Whether you are looking for a blonde refresh, some much-needed moisture, or to tame frizziness, there are many haircare lines and products that will help give you your best hair yet.
So if you are looking for some new products to check out, then keep reading.
Nexxus Blonde Assure Colour Toning Shampoo and Conditioner
I’m already a huge fan of the Colour Assure Shampoo and Conditioner for Coloured Hair, so when I saw that they came out with a line specifically for blondes, I was sold.
The Nexxus Blonde Assure Colour Toning Shampoo (C$14.99) uses the line’s ProteinFusion blend, which contains keratin protein and violet pigment to rid any brassiness on blonde or silver hair. After regular use of this line, you will notice much more vibrant colour that lasts longer and looks fresher.
This shampoo is a purple one, which I like using once a week (I usually only wash my hair twice a week anyways). I’ve actually found that my hair has been looking very brassy lately so I have been leaving my purple shampoo on my hair for longer than usual before I rinse it out. I really love this formula since it includes the same ProteinFusion blend that’s already in their Colour Assure line, which I find leaves my hair feeling and looking very soft and healthy.
Pair the shampoo with the Blonde Assure Colour Toning Conditioner (C$16.99), which helps to condition dry and damaged hair, while also enhancing colour and neutralizing brassiness. It’s very gentle on the hair and works beautifully with the purple shampoo to really bring out blonde, bleached, platinum or silver hair.
Avon Elastine Propolithera Damage Repair line
When I think of Avon, haircare usually doesn’t come to mind, so I was quite surprised when I got in their Elastrine Propolithera Damage Repair line.
Consisting of a shampoo (C$24), conditioner (C$24), and hair mask, this line is inspired by nature and helps to repair and soften damaged hair, leaving it looking and feeling more smooth and manageable. This line is sulfate/paraben-free (perfect for hair extensions) and contains propolis, a tree sap that bees combine with their own beeswax to use as a coating for their hives. This star ingredient contains minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and antioxidants to restore weak and brittle hair. The formula also has honey, which adds moisture, and royal jelly to lock in shine.
Start first with the shampoo then apply the conditioner. For some extra TLC, apply a thick layer of the hair mask (C$24) for five minutes and then rinse out. This is a nice treat to use on your hair if you wash your hair often, or once every two weeks if you are like me.
Joico HydraSplash Collection
If your hair is looking for some moisture, then you may want to take a look at Joico’s new HydraSplash collection.
This line consists of a shampoo (C$17.99), conditioner (C$18.99), Hydrating Gelee Masque (C$26.99), and Replenishing Leave-in Treatment (C$23.99). Designed for fine-to-medium hair, this collection is designed to provide 24-hour hydration and restore moisture, shine, and softness without weighing your hair down. If you have fine, dry, or brittle hair, then this may help you out as hair is left feeling light and healthy.
The shampoo and conditioner both contain coconut water, which hydrates hair thanks to Vitamins A, C, and E, as well as electrolytes; sea kelp, which is packed full of vitamins and minerals and provides moisture and vital nutrients for healthier-looking hair; and the brand’s SmartRelease Technology, which continuously releases rosehip oil, arginine, and keratine to repair, strengthen, and protect hair from daily styling.
If you need more heavy-duty moisture for your hair, then take a look at the Hydrating Gelee Masque, which is designed for extremely parched, dry hair. It contains the same ingredients as the shampoo and conditioner but is designed to be left on your hair for at least five minutes. Pair it with the Replenishing Leave-In Treatment, which is a pre-blow-dry leave-in treatment that nourishes hair and tames frizz, leaving you with supple, soft, and shiny hair.
Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Oil Serum
If you have curly or unruly hair that is hard to tame, then take a look at Kerastase’s Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Oil Serum (C$55), which is for wavy or curly hair that is medium or thick hair in texture.
Apply a couple pumps of this lightweight oil to the hair to help defrizz, smooth, and hydrate your locks. The star ingredients include shorea butter to moisturize hair, virgin coconut oil to deeply penetrate the hair fibre, and rosa muscata fruit oil to protect the hair.
Add this to damp hair and before styling. It also adds shine and protects the hair up to 450 degrees F.
Just like skincare, there are so many different products formulated to help give you your best hair yet. Whether you have straight hair, curly hair, frizzy hair, blonde hair, etc., there are so many amazing products that are formulated to keep your locks in tip-top shape this season.
