Buzzing with excitement: Guerlain celebrates World Bee Day with two fragrances

Okay, so fact about me, if I see a bee hovering near me, I will literally get up and run away.

I’ve never been stung by a bee and because of that, I have this fear that one day I’ll stung by one and then have this allergic reaction to it.  I know, I’m being dramatic.

As much as bees freak me out, over the past year I’ve actually grown to really appreciate them since I’ve seen a number of beauty brands promote the benefits of bees, both in terms of the benefits of honey, as well as the importance of bees in our eco-system.

Did you know that in Canada, bees are one of our most important pollinators and that at least 30 per cent of the world’s crops and 90 per cent of all plants require cross-pollination to spread and thrive?  Yeah, I didn’t actually know that either until recently. The number of bees in the world are also declining due to climate change, which causes some flowers to bloom earlier or later than usual, leaving bees with less food to survive. So as much as they freak me out, they are actually super important and instead of being terrified of them, I’ve come to appreciate all they do for this earth.

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria fragrances for World Bee Day

World Bee Day was actually yesterday, May 20, and as you guys may know, French luxury beauty brand Guerlain’s mission is to protect bees and their welfare (their emblem is the bee).  A lot of their products feature bee-related motifs and they even have a program with UNESCO to contribute to the repopulation of bees.

For World Bee Day yesterday, they organized a global fundraiser with the goal of raising $1 million Euros to increase their investment in the protection of bees through the Guerlain for Bees Conservation Programme.  From using global sales and social media, the goal of the campaign, which runs May 20 to 22, is to increase awareness on the need to protect bees, and reassert their status as a luxury sustainable beauty brand.

So what can you do to help out?  You can shop in stores or on Guerlain.com, where 20 per cent of the worldwide sales will be donated to the Guerlain for Bees Conservation Programme. Even easier, you can head over to Guerlain’s Instagram account, where 20 Euros from every repost of their World Bee Day Instagram image with #GuerlainForBees and #WorldBeeDay will go towards the fund.

If you are looking to pick something up during this important campaign, take a look at their two new Aqua Allegoria fragrances. These two scents are both inspired by the wildflowers that bees love and the honey they produce.  They also feature a beautiful honeycomb-inspired bottle that was first released in 1853.

Starting first with Nettare Di Sole (C$99), this eau de toilette is a fresh floral scent with a hint of citrus that’s perfect for summer. It contains notes of magnolia, floral honey accord, rose, and jasmine sambac.  It’s a very fresh scent and perfect for the warmer weather ahead.

The second scent, Flora Salvaggia (C$99) is also a fresh floral scent with key notes of watermelon, wildflower accord, and jasmine. It’s also a really refreshing scent that you’ll want to wear all summer long.

Both fragrances come in the beautiful Aqua Allegoria bottles that look so stunning displayed on your vanity.

I really love this campaign that Guerlain is doing and really appreciate any time that brands come out with these initiatives since it shows they are wanting to make the world a better place.  It looks like in order to even have a future in the world we need the help of bees so are sure you take part in this campaign, even if it’s just a repost from their social accounts.

Will you be picking up these perfumes this season?
