Happy + healthy hair: Three haircare lines to try for healthy hair

Has anyone else’s hair gotten more healthier during COVID?

When it comes to washing and styling my locks, truthfully I only really do it when I need to.  I wash my hair once or twice a week and style it as needed.  Since I do everything at home and there are literally no events to go to, unless I need to style my hair, I’ll just let it air dry and be done with it.

As a result, I can definitely feel that my hair has been getting stronger and healthier.  That’s coupled with the fact that I’ve been using a lot of Vital Proteins products and the Tula gummies, so let’s just say that I don’t think I have ever seen my hair this great.

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I mostly use ones that are geared towards blonde hair.  After I dyed my hair last month with the Clairol Natural Instincts product, my blonde has been muted down a little and truthfully, I am really embracing the colour I’m rocking right now (although I do have a salon appointment at the end of March). Because of that, I’ve been experimenting with some new shampoos and conditioners and have really been loving the results.

So, if you are in the market to try out something new for your hair, then I think you’ll love these three haircare lines…

L'Oreal Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner

L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner

Okay, so let’s start with the most affordable option, the L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner (C$8.99 and C$6.49 respectively).

This line is aimed to target the five signs of damage (daily brushing or styling, which can cause fine, fragile, dull or rough hair with split ends).  Used together, these products will help to strengthen, provide more density and vitality to the hair, increase shine and silkiness.

The star ingredient in these products is the Keratin(e)XS, which restores protection to the hair’s surface, leaving it soft and giving it a healthy-looking shine.

If you need a little extra TLC, pick up the Restoring Mask (C$9.49), which is great for damaged and weakened hair.  This mask instantly detangles damaged hair without weighing it down. It is enriched with Cicamide and Pro-Keratin to replenish hair, as well as microfillers to seal split ends.

I have the shampoo and conditioner and find that my hair feels really soft and nourished after I use it.  At this price point, it makes it easy to pick up for just about anyone.

Amika The Kure haircare line

Amika The Kure Bond Repair Line

Looking for something to strengthen hair?

I’m new to Amika’s haircare line, but having seen the packaging and branding, I knew I would love it.  The Brooklyn-based haircare line sent over their Kure line to try out, which is a bond repair shampoo and conditioner that repairs and strengthens hair that is damaged by everyday stressors, as well as heat and chemical treatments.

Start first with the Kure Bond Repair Shampoo (C$24), which gently lathers up and cleanses to repair and strengthen dry and damaged hair.  It includes the brand’s innovative Bond Cure technology which targets the most abundant bonds in your hair, the ones that easily break the most frequently. It also contains plant butters and vegan proteins, which includes omega fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.

Pair the shampoo with the Kure Bond Repair Conditioner (C$29), which contains the same technology and proteins in the formula, as well as sea buckthorn berry, which is rich in fatty-acid omega 7 and protects and strengthens the hair.

Both of the shampoo and conditioner have a new formula which is aimed at hydrating the hair while also repairing, strengthening, and bringing dry and damaged hair back to life.

If you need more TLC for your locks, work in the Kure Multi-Task Repair Treatment (C$37), which you use after your conditioner. Work this through the roots and down the hair shaft for an intense rinse-out treatment.  This treatment works to prevent future breakage, strengthen your hair, and repair damage. I like to use it at least once a week in the shower.

Finally, once you’re out of the shower, use The Closer Repair Cream (C$33) to seal in split ends. This cream is ideal for dryness, frizz, damage, split ends and breakage. Apply to damp hair to repair and strengthen hair, and give you healthy ends.

Joico Defy Damage haircare line

Joico Defy Damage regimen

Finally, when it comes to haircare, you can never go wrong with Joico.

For damaged hair, give their Defy Damage line a go. This line helps to bring hair back to life and boost hair’s natural defence against all types of daily damage, whether that be heat styling, UV exposure, pollution or environmental aggressors.

Use the shampoo (C$24.99) and conditioner (C$24.99) for the best results and then go in with the Defy Damage Protective Shield (C$27.99), which is a leave-in treatment that works to prevent damage from thermal and UV damage.  Apply this in damp hair for all-day protection from the elements, pollution, heat, and physical damage.

Finally, a new product in the line (and the one I’ve been using every single day) is the Defy Damage Sleepover, which you apply to dry hair before bed.  I run two pumps through the mid-shaft to ends of my hair and then ponytail it in a silk scrunchie before bed to wake up with shiny and healthier-looking, more vibrant hair.

This nourishes hair and strengthens bonds as you sleep and also preserves over 85 per cent of hair colour. In addition, it also reduces the appearance of split ends, instantly softens and smoothes hair, boosts shine, and protects it against pollution.  Best part is, when you wake up in the morning you don’t need to rinse it out.

This has quickly become a staple in my night-time routine and I love seeing how healthy and shiny my hair is when I wake up the next morning.
