Brighter eyes: L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara in Burgundy

I have never tried Canada’s number-one mascara.

Even though L’Oreal Paris’ Voluminous mascara is a staple, I’ve never actually gotten around to trying it. I remember back in the day before I even had this blog I would watch YouTubers and they would always swear by it, but for some reason I never picked it up. And then I became a blogger and I just didn’t need to pick it up since I had so many mascaras in my collection (actually, to be honest, as I’m writing this, I think at the time I had lash extensions).

Anyways, when I got a box in the mail the other week with their newest colour of Voluminous I was so excited to try it out. I mean, it was like 10 years in the making.

New to the game is the Voluminous Original Mascara in the colour deep burgundy (it also comes in black brown, black, blackest black, and cobalt blue).

Now if you’re like me and have never tried the original Voluminous before, this mascara is billed to resist clumping, soften, and build lashes up to five-times their natural thickness. The formula is supposed to quickly thicken and build lashes for a full and dramatic look. It will also leave you with soft lashes that don’t flake, smudge or clump.

Now I’m not sure why L’Oreal would come out with a purple colour in this formula, but to be honest, once it’s on your lashes, it’s not that noticeably burgundy. In fact, when I was using it, I didn’t even feel like it did much for my lashes at all. Sure, it added some dimension, but I have other mascaras that truly do wonders for me and I didn’t get what the hype was about this one. You guys know I love the L’Oreal Paris Lash Paradise mascara, which is an offshoot of the original, but this did absolutely nothing for my lashes.

Okay, so formula aside, I didn’t really notice a change in colour once I applied it. Since purple typically makes blue eyes pop, I had high hopes for this, but there wasn’t a huge difference between the burgundy and black. I guess it makes your lashes look less noticeable if you want a subtle makeup look, but that’s about it. Honestly though, this mascara did absolutely nothing for me, which was a huge bummer considering how iconic it was. I had high hopes for this one.

If you are a fan of the original, I would say to just stick with the black colour. Like I said, I don’t get the point of a burgundy mascara. This made my eyelashes look a tinge more noticeable, but if you’re going to invest in a mascara, I would suggest just sticking to plain ol’ black, it’ll do you wonders.

Have you tried L’Oreal Paris Voluminous mascara?
