Fast fashion: OOTDs with Sammy Dress
When it comes to fashion, I’m a huge believer in splurging on accessories but cheaping out on clothes. I don’t think I would ever pay over $100 for a shirt (unless I absolutely loved it and it was unlike anything I have ever seen).
Back in the day, I used to be huge into labels. I wanted the $300 designer jeans, the Juicy Couture hoodies, you name it. Nowadays, my favourite stores are H&M, Forever 21, Dynamite, fast-fashion retailers that offer on-trend pieces for inexpensive prices (most times I usually shop with coupons anyways, making the pieces even more affordable). When I do splurge, it’s on purses, shoes, and other items that you can wear with multiple outfits and timeless pieces that don’t go out of style.
About a month back I was approached by Sammy Dress, a global online wholesale supplier that sells trendy pieces for rock-bottom prices. The website ships internationally from Asia and the best part is that the items are really (and I mean really) affordable. I chose two items to try out, a batwing white top with leopard detailing on the back ($7.70) and a slim-fit scoop neck top with leather detailing on the shoulders ($5.15, now sold out).
Both of these items are one size fits all, which for the batwing top, I can see that working to an extent, but no way will the scoop-neck one fit if you are a larger medium and up. I’m a small or extra-small depending on the brand, and this top was tight on me. It fit, but if you are larger than me, you would have a problem. Keep in mind that this is an Asian website, where the women are usually a lot more petite than us North Americans..
The items do look like the photos, but I have to stress that the quality is not on par with other “fast-fashion” retailers. I really do like the items and as you know, trends come and go. Sammy Dress is perfect for embracing a trend and then not feeling bad for spending an arm and a leg on a shirt that you are only going to wear for one season. Keep an open mind with this site, as the items I got were very cheaply made. For instance, on the batwing top, there were strings coming out of both the sleeves and the seam at the bottom. It’s like they just made the top prior to sending it out. Same with the leather-shouldered top. The seams on that one weren’t even reinforced, they just cut the fabric, sewed the sides, and packed it up and sent it out. Not only are the clothes incredibly cheap, but they are very cheaply made.
Okay, all negative aspects aside, I do have to say that I did get tons of compliments on the items. Also, keep in mind that I ordered two pieces, I don’t know what the quality is like on anything else. It could be hit or miss.
Overall, looking past how the items were made, I do recommend Sammy Dress, although the shipping did take a month to get from China to Canada. They also have jewelry, accessories, makeup, shoes, items like this, this, and this, you name it. The number one thing to keep in mind about the site is that you really do get what you pay for.
Have you tried Sammy Dress yet?
